The research was published in the Economic Journal and funded by Research Council of Norway. Grant Number: 239120 Japan Society for the Promotion of Science Fellows. Grant Number: 26-5010
If you could show me how this research is biased that would be great.

The sad part is I don't see it changing dramatically at all. There are a few farmers who are transitioning to regenerative ag practices, but the scale of industrial ag is entrenched in the US economy.

It still is legal, but on prescription only. For local anesthesia it is very good because it is a vasoconstrictor. Ear, nose and throat surgeons use it for sinus surgery.

I voted for both medical and recreational marijuana sales here in Colorado, even though I'm a rock-solid economic Conservative. People should be allowed to do what they want, so long as they do not harm the ability of others to peacefully live their lives, too.

That said, my main interest was in the tax revenue generated by the sales, and those have been abundant from the very beginning. Government is always hungry for more taxes, especially when led by Democrats who want more and more money for "social programs". I'd rather they tax marijuana than go on thrusting their grabbing fingers in MY pocket all the damn time!

The down side? More car wrecks are now attributable to "stoners", but we also have a lot of drunks, "impaired drivers", and f*cking IDIOTS who insist on pawing around on their 'smart' phones while driving. BUT, not all of that is because of marijuana.

Another down side (and you should really think about THIS part) -- since we legalized recreational marijuana we've had a very large increase in the population of what we call "homeless campers". The 'campers' themselves will tell you that part of the reason they wandered over to Colorado was because of legal 'weed'. I couldn't care less, except that these bums sh*t and piss all over the place, including all over city parks and even in the streets in plain view. They also start lot of "camp fires" because (DOH!) it gets pretty damned cold at night in and near the Rocky Mountains in winter! Oh, BTW, in the Denver-to-Colorado Springs corridor, we are having a horrible drought, and the "homeless" fires get loose and are causing lots of trouble here, more and more. We can't do anything about these bums because every time local government tries to get rid of these bastards, the ACLU comes charging in and uses legal obstruction to protect them and enable them to go on trashing everything everywhere they go....

So, even though I voted for 'weed', I'm hoping that the "homeless campers" will make their way on over to California which now also has legal 'weed', where the welfare handouts are even greater, the panhandling 'take' is surely better, and the climate along the coast is much warmer.

[IMG] .... :cynic: -- "Yeah, go all the way 'West' -- smoke, joke, and sh*t in somebody else's parks...."

I agree with pretty much all of this. I would add that legalizing cannabis at the federal level would stop the cannabis migrants. Here in TN, I wrote my state Senator a couple of years ago about a proposed medical cannabis bill. He replied that because it is still illegal at the federal level he can not support it. If the feds legalized or at least removed it from the controlled substances, the remaining states would immediately move towards some level of legalization.

And I agree with you, too. Hell, I'm an old guy... I smoked weed 'back in the day' when getting caught with a SEED in Texas could put you in a penitentiary for five years. Pure lunacy! Today, with the possibility of universal legalization, we could all share the tax revenue, the possible benefits, and the certain miseries of marijuana. Leave it to the states!

So, we should definitely legalize weed at the federal level and let the states decide. But remember -- the Federal Government has a way of completely ignoring or disregarding the 10th Amendment of our Constitution when it wants to.... Arkansas wanted segregated public schools, but Eisenhower sent in the military! Southern states wanted to secede, but Lincoln gave them a Civil War instead.

And before all the lovers of big centralized federal government jump down my throat, read what the 10th Amendment to the Constitution of the United States actually says --

    ***************
    Amendment X
The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are reserved to the states respectively, or to the people.

    ***************

[IMG]. "That stupid '10th Amendment' thing...? Meh, maybe not so much...." :icon_picknose:

'Medical' marijuana is very likely to be mostly (or completely) of the "Indica" variety. Indica MJ has very pronounced physical effects... I took three good-sized huffs on a bowl of a mixture called "Space Dawg" (70% Indica, 30% Sativa) and was knocked flat on my ass to the point where I really couldn't move for 20 minutes. I can definitely see how Indica MJ can deaden some causes of pain, but no one who has smoked THIS stuff should operate machinery, drive a vehicle, etc. It would be difficult to imagine anyone trying to commit a crime after smoking this stuff, but, no, that's not a 'scientific' observation. Still, it might be funny to watch someone trying to commit crimes after getting heavily stoned.... :D

Again, let's legalize MJ at the federal level in all its forms and let the individual states decide. After all, until Abraham Lincoln stomped a mudhole in it, that's the kind of decision that the 10th Amendment to the Constitution was designed to accommodate....

I can only say that Californians should decide whether MJ should be legal in California. As we all know, MJ is now fully legal in California, just like is has been for several years in my own state of Colorado. I have been 'pro-marijuana' because of the windfall of tax revenue it brings the state, but there have been a number of growing problems related to it, including a huge increase in homeless bums who have said themselves that a lot of why they came to Colorado was to get weed. I don't know how they pay for it, since they 'camp' illegally in parks and stream beds, pissing and sh*tting all over the place, and starting uncontrolled 'campfires' during our months-long extreme drought....

So, there's good and bad, just like there is in anything else that mankind does. Hell, look at how Eucalyptus trees have changed so much of Southern California, and there weren't any of them there until they were imported from across the Pacific Ocean.

Meanwhile, militarized cops gun down an unarmed 16 year old in a Franklin County Ohio juvenile court room. Only in america, we would use something like this as an excuse to invade another country militarily.

Better than having more people who think like you.
