It is likely you wear it because doing so is compulsory.

I don't walk around here in a ready prepared state to defend myself. The thought of having to do so does not cross my mind.

Sounds like a line from Hollywood rather than reality.

It would be far smarter to stay out of his territory if you suspect he is there in the area.

I bought a 1963 Rambler with optional seat belts before they were mandatory and I insisted that everyone use them. I have used seat belts nearly one hundred percent of the time since then.
I don't walk around in a ready prepared state either. I rarely take a gun outside my house except for target practice and sometimes in the woods.
We live in this rural area because we love it. Bears will generally run away from a person. However, if you get between a female and her cubs, they will attack. We don't feel threatened. Just prepared.

Of course, if you live in bear country, you'd be foolish not to carry, but isn't that out of the fear of a possible attack?

If it was fear, it would not be worthwhile going into the woods. It is similar to wearing seat belts. I don't wear them out of fear.

Of course, it's simply reasonable precaution, the entire premise of this thread is bunk, just jealousy from a disarmed, subject. Here in America, we are citizens, armed citizens.

    I don't suppose.
The context was not provided. It could've been anything ranging from having been politely asked to show it, to whipping it out and waving it around like a maniac. No way to know. Though your automatic presumption that she was bragging is telling.

Reasonable precaution. Asides from it being the law. I did not think about being shot, not once at all today. I have guns and dont even carry them.

Reasonable precaution. Wearing them costs me nothing. Just like carrying a gun into the woods sometimes. It costs me nothing. I do lots of thing in this life which are reasonable precautions. I drink lots of water. I eat lots of fruit and vegetables. I get my flue shots plus a few others. I go to the dentist and see my family doctor twice a year. None of those are out of fear. Just reasonable things to do.

Why stick to seat belts? Most of us do all these things, except maybe carrying a gun. It is not because of fear. It just results in a more secure and stable life.

Why not skip the 20 questions and get to your point? We already know what you are attempting to drive at, so just come out with it.

Nope....It seems I have to drag it out of you, one tooth at a time. You wear your seat belt as a precaution against what?

Translation = I fear answering his question because I know it leads to one outcome I don't want to have to deal with. :)

I'll put it another way. I am eighty two. That is older than anyone in my family has lived. I don't drink, smoke or take drugs. I expect to live another decade or so. .I did not do this out of fear. I enjoy life and I figure this is the best way to do it. This morning, I climbed into my little Miata and had a glorious time driving to the store down this crooked narrow road. Sometimes a bit faster than I should have, but damn it was fun.

I have worn seat belts for so long that I feel naked without them.

Neat age. I hope I get there. Moving on.......you did say you wear the seat belt as a reasonable precaution. So......simple logical next question is....against what?

You misspelled "I think I am clever and will use a series of questions to lead them into my 'trap' they are not even aware of"

Dont fool yourself, it's transparent as glass :)

Oh I well know what garden path I am taking you to. That you do as well demonstrates you do live in fear. That is why you have your gun....as a reasonable precaution against being attacked. That is....because I fear being attacked, I have my gun as a reasonable precaution to deal with that attack.

Two things arise from that and I'll put them this way. I walk around Australia with not even thinking I might be attacked. If I ever did fear being attacked, I would deal with that in whatever way was practical, but I will not have a gun.
