Speaking in terms of the right choice being the best choice, not morally but as a practical matter: I tend to be a bulldog with my projects. Whatever it is that I'm doing, my tendency is to put my head down and go for all I'm worth. But I have learned the hard way that when you have to fight and fight and fight every step of the way, things never do seem to work out as planned no matter how hard I work. It is like some projects or paths chosen were just doomed from the start. Many projects can be agonizing at times and require a ridiculous number of hours. But when it seems like things are just plagued from the start and doesn't get better, it is time to stop and consider alternatives. Plowing through isn't always the best option. And learning when to call it quits is an art. There are other times when everything magically falls into place; when it seems that it was meant to be. Just put in the time and success will follow. I've learned to jump when I have a sense of a ringer. I used to think about it more. But when I have that definite feeling, I jump now. In short, I've learned to put a fair bit of trust in my instincts. Our brains process a great deal of information that we are not consciously aware of processing. We pick up clues that we don't know we have. Our subconscious knows things our conscious brains don't.
Ah, I thought you were expanding on Captain Nice's post. That isn't a matter of being right, but what's in your own best interest. I might counter [playing devil's advocate here] that by smoking, spending your days in a rage, and eating junk food, you vastly increase your chance of an early death, thus reducing the burden on Social Security, Medicare, and the health care system. So eat crap, hate, and smoke that cigarette, it's all in the best interest of your fellow Americans
I can think of a few exceptions to that one, like how about that which leaves you brain damaged and paralyzed?
