When purchasing a weapon that has the lethal capability it does, I think that sufficient time to do background checks is demonstrating necessary, effective and the least restrictive means to achieve a specific compelling state interest.

Why does waiting 10 days in order for an effective background check to be conducted cause you grief? It also allows for a 'cooling off period' for those who are experiencing extreme anger toward another person. The benefit to society is evident in my previous comments.

Your opinion is not a demonstration of fact.

Absent a demonstrable probable cause of reasonable suspicion, the state may not restrain the exercise of your rights, especially if its goal is to determine if you are breaking the law.
This is a form of prior restraint and almost always violates the constitution.

Sure - whatever. Tell that to a family who loses one of their own to someone who purchased a gun after a terrible argument. I don't love our constitution more than humans. I don't want to protect the constitution more than I want to see people's lives protected. On that we seem to disagree. And all your references to the constitution won't dissuade me. So I'll wish you a good day...

    You seem to disagree.
And yet, if a police officer, without reasonable suspicion or probable cause, stopped you while walking down the street, restrained you and held you for 10 days until he checked to see if you had any outstanding warrants, you;d scream bloody murder.
    Same / same.
You can't argue past the point, so you jump to an argumentum ad passiones fallacy. Nice.

    Your concession, accepted.
