So what are the ADJUSTMENTS being made by these people? Remember the premise was 'support during adjustment'.

How does a family survive a Recession/Depression? There are many ways.

The point is what percentage of people prepared for it? And what percentage of those who didn't, are quickly adapting now?

Govt can do nothing, when the citizenry won't either.

Corporatism only happens when the people allow it, and the people allow it via their lifestyle choices.

Quite literally, we DEMAND corporatism. It's much easier and more convenient than small holder capitalism, and the prices are lower. That's where your battle is. The corporations wouldn't exist if the people didn't demand that they do.

don't disagree, republicans are funding corporatism, they see mega corporations as too big to fail and are letting them write their own laws and bailing them out

EVERY citizen who leans heavily on 'the system', is responsible for corporatism. It has nothing to do with politics.

Most of which would go away once the COVID-19 fearmongering is lifted. You have countless Americans afraid of catching a cold. Coronavirus is one of the causes of the common cold. Yes, President Trump caught a cold, and the news media is freaking out over it, even though for 94% of people in Trump’s age bracket, COVID-19 is not a death sentence.

Corporations are outsourcing jobs and importing goods, republicans support this

if people want speed limits on this, they will have to vote those republicans out

Democrats openly threw their support behind it as soon as Trump opposed it.

no they did not, we are happy Trump has got republicans to see tarrifs are needed

we also want republicans to see the dangers of outsourcing all are IT jobs to India... it's a national security risk to have another country control all our data

Trump wimped out with China after they gave his daughter all those trademarks... sad!

    https://www.nytimes.com/2018/05/28/business/ivanka-trump-china-trademarks.html

"six days before the ZTE announcement, China said it approved five of Ms. Trump's trademarks, according to data from China's trademark office."

You missing the elephant in the room. Every person who leans heavily on the system by buying stuff constantly (groceries, manufactured goods, utilities, etc etc etc), is responsible for corporatism. If you don't like it, stop encouraging corporatists by buying what they're selling.

Yes they did. I don't know even where to begin if that's what you think.

We have had many threads about this in the past, and admittingly it is somewhat of a complicated situation.

You didn't notice all the repeat coverage that was going on at CNN and MSNBC saying Trump was stupid for wanting to put up tariffs?

In the Great Depression, the countries that did something got better.

The country that did nothing didn't.

Of course, that was in reality.

The countries that did something had less inequality and more demographic homogeneity in the first place.

So it's the fallacy of correlation.

It isn't about these people being helped through an "adjustment" because we're talking about attracting them to the job in the first place. Teaching is career because there is a licensing requirement two years of "teacher training" costs the computer teacher $200,000 or so in lost wages.

Anyway, we have very few qualified computer teachers in schools.

In the Great Depression of the 1930s, millions of people lost their life savings when banks and businesses went under. How many people know enough about investing and economics to protect themselves? How many people under 30 have enough assets to get themselves through a depression even if they know how to manage their wealth?

Rather than talk about government doing nothing, you might ask yourself what Hitler do to revive the German economy in the 1930s. Or what happened during Roosevelt's first term. I mentioned Germany because Hitler built a military in the 1930s that damn near won WW2. Did the German people starve during the buildup? No.

How about they just don't buy cheap Chinese goods from Walmart? Wait doesn't the left complain about Trump tariffs ...your post doesn't make sense blaming Republicans when they are trying to do something about it.

Importing goods that PEOPLE want. Doesn't matter who is in power, or what your politics are, if you're buying the stuff then you're the reason for it. And as long as you keep demanding that it's easy and cheap, it'll keep becoming more corporate.

I don't want 'limits' on it. I want the freedom to act against it via my consumption choices .. and we all have that freedom in a democracy. Don't blame the corporation, when they only exist because you want their products.

Someone said that support through ADJUSTMENT was warranted. I agreed - but wanted to know what evidence should be required that ADJUSTMENT is actually happening. Sitting at home waiting isn't adjustment.

They 'did something' in a context of much higher levels of mutual obligation, social responsibility, personal responsibility, and work ethic.

None of the same measures would work today ... and would actually cause far more harm than good.

People under 30 without assets should be living rent free in the fully owned family home, so that they can stockpile cash and assets. That's the way it was always handled in the past. You're 25 and think that cramps your style? Then suffer the consequences of that vanity. You're a parent and don't own property outright? You should not have had kids if you weren't going to be in a fully owned property by the time those kids finished high school and thus need rent free accommodation while they were building their careers/saving money. Or you should have lived somewhere you could actually afford to do it right. Don't like living in cheaper housing/areas? Then your kids suffer the consequences of that vanity.

Meantime .. not 'knowing enough about economics' is a lame excuse. A child knows how to save for a rainy day. It's a ridiculously simple exercise of will. There is nothing clever about it, nor does it require 'knowledge'. Just spend less than you earn, all your life, and invest the surplus in property or whatever floats your boat. Very.Bloody.Simple.

Exactly! The economy, or the policy created by our ruling elite never failed - if young people living with their parents it means they have failed themselves, i.e., failed to get a meaningful skill or education, if there is unemployment, it means unemployed failed themselves, i.e., failed to find a job, if someone failed to bankruptcy because of medical problems it means he/she failed themselves, i.e., failed eat healthy and exercise.
It is never a failure of our ruling elite.

don't disagree, the people play a part, but the reality is, it's hard to find good American made products anymore as they can't compete with the cheap foreign labor

So don't buy 'products'. Or buy as few as possible.

And on the contrary, the people are the ONLY reason corporations exist.
