    Yeah and their stores on the enormous base on which they lived made our once every few month supply runs a bit better. Then we left and drove a couple hours back to our outpost and the real war. I did see some French soldiers outside picking up trash near the front gate once. So I guess technically they do leave the wire sometimes.

    Excuse my bitterness but at least the Germans made fun of themselves for the fact that they don't do jack (*)(*)(*)(*). They sold I.S.A.F patches in their stores that read "I Saw American's Fighting". Pretty funny.

    sad but true.

    when I went to basic, we didn't get showers for at least 8 or 9 weeks, and then it was get in turn around then "GET THE (*)(*)(*)(*) OUTTA MY GOD (*)(*)(*)(*) SHOWER PRIVATE!"

    I swear. 50 mother (*)(*)(*)(*)ers in and out of the shower in like 10 minutes top.

    forget that we were doing PT twice a day and getting smoked every time a DS looked at us...LOL

    Infantry is the real Army.

    Actually they have some very good equipment but they also have a history, WW1, WW2, Dien Bien Phu and the Algerian War.

    They won some, they lost some. Nobody ever questioned the valor or basic competency of the individual French soldiers, though.

    In WW II, for instance, they had some of the best infantry -- more than capable of going toe-to-toe with the Germans. And the French light artillery was so good that the Germans kept them and used them throughout the war.

    Their problem was poor generalship, a (*)(*)(*)(*)-poor strategic plan, and a combined-arms strategy that was 20 years out of date -- meaning their tanks were obsolete, slow, undergunned and committed piecemeal in support of a dangerously outdated doctrine.

    Yeah and they make GREAT snails. The Germans went through the French like (*)(*)(*)(*) through a goose. What did it take, A month? 90% of east Europe did better than that. They aren't called surrender monkeys for nothing. Arrogant de Gaulle should have been hung along with the NAZI's after the war.

    More cheap shallowness posing as clever.

    If you understood *why* the German invasion went so quickly, you'd know it had nothing to do with the basic training, competency or valor of the French soldiers.

    The French actually stopped the Germans cold in several places. But their strategic plan plain stank: rely on the Maginot Line, advance into Belgium to support the Belgians, don't worry about the Ardennes.

    The Germans overran Belgium, engaged the lead Allied forces, then cut them off with an armored advance through the Ardennes that bypassed the Maginot. Throw in their superior combined-arms doctrine (blitzkrieg), and the French were beaten handily.

    But it was poor strategic vision, not a failing of the French soldier. Which is what we're discussing here.

    The Maginot Line was a dumber idea than the watertight integrity of the Titanic, on that we agree. They started it years before WW2 but it took no genius to just go around fixed fortifications. It's a shame the 8MM Lebel was such a (*)(*)(*)(*) round compared to nearly ALL it's peers because they were only dropped once. On the plus side the French (men mostly) :omg: did invent the blowjob on the battlefield. :wink:

    I don't mind them serving openly, so long as they leave that prissy attitude in the barracks where it belongs. I bunked with a guy who I suspected to be gay years ago, because he was slightly effeminate and never talked about his girlfriend, but that was his business. Out on drill, he looked and acted just like the rest of us, so nobody asked any questions. The DS never bugged him because he was always busting ass. My only hang-up with all of this is that they had better not try to be treated different than the rest of the soldiers. Unit cohesion is a very big deal in the military, and I'd really object to any type of gay movement trying to screw up military policy with that gay crap.

    I like to give our armed forces a bit of credit and realize they are good people, some form dicey backgrounds, serving their country. Obviously you think of them as bigoted morons who beat people.

    You know, not everyone hates homosexuals or fears them. Some of us adult type folks even say live and let live, that what they do does not affect us in the least bit.
