Sad to say, but I think you're right. There's little doubt CNN and MSNBC have become propaganda wings of the left or Democratic Party while Fox serves that same purpose for the Republicans and the right. The major over the air networks all have moved left, not as bad as CNN and MSNBC, but they're working on it.

Bias used to be covert, now it is becoming more and more overt. Especially on cable. Meanwhile, trust in the media to report the news fairly, accurately and fully is at its lowest point ever, 32%. It was once as high as 72% back in 1976. there has been a steady decline ever since as the media has taken sides in our political battles instead of just reporting on them.

News media changed with the internet, before news needed to be accurate, this made the media reliable and that garnered audience and advertising revenue. Now the media aims to satisfy the greatest number and will sacrifice accuracy for audience.

 

Makes sense to me. The news channels are all about ratings and viewership.

I think it is only natural that a past leader be honored at the time of his death. And, of course, all the discussion will be glowing. Would you expect the media to trash him at this time? The discussions that I heard today were of his military service, his love for his family and his goodness as a man. Because I didn't know him personally, I will assume he was a great husband, father and grandfather. That, along with his lengthy service to his country, warrants all knives be put away and praise him in those areas worthy of praise.

 

It isn't for those who embrace a propaganda Ministry tied to promoting a single ideology.

History has not recorded good things resulting from news becoming messaging.

Print media would tout the number of copies printed and the broadcasters had ratings to measure their audiences, their consumers justified their advertising prices. Figures on online followers are much more easily manipulated (and it looks like there actually is a lot of this going on), but the online following is also more interactive, information is being tailored to suit an audience.

 

When H.W. Bush was president he was compared to other presidents before and after his term and he did not compare all that well even though he was a fine gentleman. When H.W.Bush died he was compared to the present president we have and that is why H.W. has received so much praise.
