Minimum-wage workers are cheaper than slaves

I don't think you read my comments. I said that when I wanted to find a part-time job that allowed me to set my own flextime----fastfood came through. Because of the type of job it is, low pay for menial work---and because fastfood is not filled with career employees that are starting their 25th year there---It was the job that fulfilled my needs. JUst like it fits the needs of students, temporary workers and even teachers off on summer break and wanting temp work for extra cash.

So....do you think I should be able to choose a job like that? Or do you think the government should control what jobs are out there for me to choose from?

 

I do now. I've had similar problems with this kind of thing before. It's beginning to be common place. He's certainly not the only one.

Working at Macdonalds for minimum wage is better than slavery, and it was certainly not cheaper.

There was no housing for slaves, and they did not get health care when they were sick. This is a phony comparison, minimum wage pays more than slavery.

Our government has never had total control over what jobs are available, and neither has the market.

When the government intervenes, especially a liberal government, like with the New Deal, the common people benefit greatly and the super-rich and greedy complain because they can't afford a fifth vacation house.

 

My comparison isn't based on the slavery in America's past.

It's based on the present, and what things would be like if slavery were legal today.

Much of Obama's debt was accrued coming on the heels of a possible depression/ $800 billion stimulus, and investing in getting rid of two wars he didn't start. But yet, inherited the debt that went with it. An awful lot of that is your $5 trillion right there. Now, I wonder why Obama spent all that money for those things? Makes you wonder who's debt it really is.
