Monsanto Found Guilty of Chemical Poisoning in France

In a major victory for public health and what will hopefully lead to other nations taking action, a French court decided today that GMO crops monster Monsanto is guilty of chemically poisoning a French farmer. The grain grower, Paul Francois, says he developed neurological problems such as memory loss and headaches after being exposed to Monsanto’s Lasso weedkiller back in 2004. The monumental case paves the way for legal action against Monsanto’s Roundup and other harmful herbicides and pesticides made by other manufacturers.

In a ruling given by a court in Lyon (southeast France), Francois says that Monsanto failed to provide proper warnings on the product label. The court ordered an expert opinion to determine the sum of the damages, and to verify the link between Lasso and the reported illnesses. The case is extremely important, as previous legal action taken against Monsanto by farmers has failed due to the challenge of properly linking pesticide exposure with the experienced side effects.

When contacted by Reuters, Monsanto’s lawyers declined to comment.

Monsanto’s Deadly Concoctions

Farmer Paul Francois was not alone in his quest to hold Monsanto accountable for their actions. He and other farmers affected by Monsanto’s deadly concoctions actually founded an association last year to make the case that their health problems were a result of Monsanto’s Lasso and other ‘crop protection’ products. Their claims were also met by many other farmers. Since 1996, the agricultural branch of the French social security system has gathered about 200 alerts per year regarding sickness related to pesticides. However only 47 cases were even recognized in the past 10 years.

Francois, whose life was damaged by Monsanto’s products, has now set the powerful precedent in the defense of farmers.

“I am alive today, but part of the farming population is going to be sacrificed and is going to die because of this,” Francois, 47, told Reuters.

It is also important to note that Monsanto’s Lasso pesticide was actually banned in France back in 2007 following a European Union directive that came after the ban of the product in other nations.

Quote from Article:
Is Monsanto's Weedkiller Compromising The Fertility Of The Soil?

http://www.opednews.com/articles/Is-Monsanto-s-Weedkiller-C-by-Sayer-Ji-120307-719.html

"The nation that destroys its soil, destroys itself." ---
......................................................................Franklin Delano Roosevelt

In light of this quote, had Monsanto been around during Roosevelt's time, he would not have taken too kindly
to their business strategy. After all, in 2007, 176 million lbs of an extremely toxic herbicide known as glyphosate,
first created by Monsanto, was sprayed onto the soil (and everything standing between it) in this country,
with untold environmental and human health fallout.

Untold, that is, until now...

Roundup (Glyphosate): The Science Vs. Marketing

2011 was a watershed year, as far as scientific revelations into the nature and extent of the damage associated
with glyphosate-based herbicide usage and exposure is concerned. An accumulating body of peer-reviewed
and published research now indicates glyphosate may be contributing to several dozen adverse health effects
in exposed populations. And as we shall see, human exposure is as universal as is the contamination of our food,
air, rain and groundwater with this now ubiquitous chemical .

Ever since Monsanto developed, marketed and patented the glyphosate molecule -- Roundup ( -) herbicide's active
ingredient -- beginning in the early 70's, a substantial and ever-growing portion of the earth's arable surface has been
transformed into an environmental and human health experiment, of unprecedented scale. Non-industry funded
human research on glyphosate exposure is only now being performed, and the preliminary picture being painted isn't very
pretty. Recent experimental research found that exceedingly small concentrations of glyphosate (450-fold lower
than used in agricultural applications) induce DNA damage in human cells. Given these findings, it is likely that the
widespread adoption of GM agriculture has and will continue to result in massive collateral health damage; the
fall-out of which we are only beginning to understand, and yet which we are all no doubt are already experiencing,
mostly subclinically.
.
Roundup Ready ( -) (glyphosate resistant) genetically modified (GM) plants (also created by Monsanto) now constitute
70% of all genetically modified food plants on the market today. This has required the use of increasingly larger quantities
of glyphosate-based herbicides in the regions where these plants are cultivated, making human exposures inevitable,
and now simply a question of to what degree. Despite manufacturers' claims, pest resistance to GM crops and commonly
used herbicides, are becoming a serious problem, and companies like Dow Agrosciences are seizing the opportunity with
newly created GM crops that are 'three herbicide" resistant, requiring the future use of even more toxic combinations
and greater quantities of herbicides in America's farmlands, including 2,4 D, a chemical once used in Agent Orange.

Glyphosate is now contaminating vast subterranean stretches of groundwater in areas directly and indirectly exposed
to the application of this agrichemical; a finding that runs contrary to manufacturer's claims that glyphosate is readily
"biodegradable" and even "makes the soil cleaner," which it does not. Moreover, one 2011 study found glyphosate
in 60-100% of all US air and rain samples tested, indicating that glyphosate pollution and exposure is now omnipresent
in the regions within which it is applied.

Study Shows
Monsanto's Roundup Ravaging Butterfly Populations,

Friday 9 March 2012 - by: Mike Barrett, Natural Society | Report .

Monsanto’s Roundup, containing the active ingredient glyphosate, has been tied to more
health and environmental problems than you could imagine. Similar to how pesticides
have been contributing to the bee decline, Monsanto’s Roundup has been tied to
the decrease in the population of monarch butterflies by killing the very plants that the
butterflies rely on for habitat and food. What’s been shown to be an even greater threat
to the population, though, is Monsanto’s Roundup Ready corn and soybeans.

Roundup Ready Crops and Glyphosate Leading to Downfall of Insect Populations

A 2011 study published in the journal Insect Conservation and Diversity found that
increasing acreage of genetically modified Roundup Ready corn and soybeans is heavily
contributing to the decline in monarch butterfly populations within North America.
Milkweed, a plant butterflies rely on for habitat and food, is being destroyed by the
heavy use of glyphosate-based pesticides and Roundup Ready crops. Over the past 17
years, the monarch butterfly population in central Mexico has declined, reaching an all-
time low in 2009-2010.

“This milkweed has disappeared from at least 100 million acres of these row crops
said Dr. Taylor, an insect ecologist at the University of Kansas and director of the research
and conservation program Monarch Watch. “Your milkweed is virtually gone…this
[glyphosate use on RR crops] is the one main factor that has happened…you look at parts
of the Midwest where there is a tremendous use of these crops and you see monarch
populations dropping. It’s hard to deny the conclusion.”

According to the Department of Agriculture, in 2011 94 percent of soybeans and 72
percent of corn grown in the United States were herbicide-tolerant. Due to this increase,
the amount of Roundup used on crops in 2007 was 5 times higher than in 1997, only one
year after Roundup Ready crops were available

Another study published int he journal Crop Protection and conducted by Robert G
Hartzler, an agronomist at Iowa State, found that milkweed on farms in Iowa declined 90
percent from 1999 to 2009. Additionally, his study found milkweed only on 8 percent of
corn and soybean fields surveyed in 2009, which is 51 percent lower than in 1999.

Although the butterfly population may be suffering, humans are taking heat from
Monsanto’s creations as well. Past research has shown that Monsanto’s Roundup ready
crops are leading to mental illness and obesity, primarily by destroying the amount of
good bacteria found in the gut. The corporation’s Roundup, containing glyphosate, has
also been shown to cause infertility and birth defects.

Glyphosate is so present today that it has been found to be polluting the world’s
drinking water through the widespread contamination of aquifers, wells, and springs.
What may be most shocking is that very high concentrations of glyphosate have
been found in 100 percent of urine samples tested in a recent study.

This lawsuit does have merit if Monsanto did indeed violate India's anti-trust laws in trying to monopolize the seed market with its products by pushing out competitors using methods like dumping etc. In the past, there were lawsuits brought against farmers who claimed they planted regular grain seeds, but consequently some genetically modified seeds were blown over onto their fields from the neighbouring ones. As a result, these farmers were sued by biotech companies, most likely unfairly. Monsanto's solution seems to be investing in the terminator technology where the seeds they sell cannot produce any subsequent seeds once the plant matures. That way, you cannot make mistakes unintentionally.

This suit alleges monsanto is stealing indigenous Indian species. Of violating Indias "Biological Diversity Act". The first time ANY company has ever been sued for biopiracy under this or any law. Has nothing to do with anti trust laws.

How GMO Foods Alter Organ Function.
A New Study Reveals Alarming Data

Introduction

Over 70 percent of corn, soy, and other staple grains on the market today have been genetically modified, mostly either to resist herbicides or to produce their own pesticides on a cellular level.

As if those figures weren’t high enough, approximately 80% of all packaged foods in the U.S. contain GMOs. Genetically modified organisms, or GMOs, have been sold as food since 1992, when the biotech companies convinced the government that speeding these new products past inspection and regulation would improve US exports. Normally, in order to receive the label of “Generally Recognized as Safe”, new products have to undergo extensive testing from third party sources, and there must be a nearly unanimous consensus among the scientific community that there are no dangerous side effects. These new crops are given the FDA’s official seal of approval without any outside testing, and in blatant defiance of what scientific evidence there already is against these dangerous new plants. As far as the FDA is concerned, as long as the companies say that their products are harmless, they are. GMO’s are now almost everywhere, entirely unregulated, and they aren’t even labeled. Companies can even release new strains to market without telling the government.

Unsurprisingly, numerous tests and real world examples have shown the dangerous and toxic effects of these crops on humans and animals. According to Say No to GMO’s essay, thoroughly sourced with over 120 scientific essays and new articles. Genetically modified organisms (GMOs) have been linked to thousands of toxic or allergic‐type reactions, thousands of sick, sterile, and dead livestock, and damage to virtually every organ and system studied in lab animals. Nearly every independent animal feeding safety study shows adverse or unexplained effects.

These toxic effects from both animal tests and actual accounts of farm animals allowed to graze on GMO plants include liver damage, intestinal damage, high mortality rates, infant mortality rates of 51.6% in rats, reproductive failures, sterility, weakened or activated immune systems, and inflammation related to lethal allergic reactions. Researchers found that the same year GM soy was introduced to Great Britain, soy allergies in the country went up by 50%. Proteins in soy also cross-react with peanut allergies, and in the five years after GM soy was introduced to America, rates of peanut allergies increased by 100 percent.

Once again, genetically modified organisms are not labeled. However, organic foods are not allowed to have any GMO ingredients. It’s just one of the many reasons why Topline Foods have collected all the best organic products we can find, for your safety and convenience.

New Research: GMO Food Far Worse Than We Think

Disturbing new research published in the Journal of Applied Toxicology indicates that genetically modified (GM) crops with “stacked traits” –that is, with multiple traits such as glyphosate-herbicide resistance and Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) insecticidal toxins engineered together into the same plant, are likely far more dangerous to human health than previously believed, due to their synergistic toxicity.

Resistance to glyphosate, the active ingredient in the herbicide Roundup, has been engineered into many GM plants, so that fields can be sprayed indiscriminately with herbicide without destroying the crops. While the GM glyphosate-resistant plants survive, they subsequently contain residues of glyphosate and its various metabolites (e.g. aminomethylphosphonic acid) that present a significant health threat to the public.

In this latest study the glyphosate-containing herbicide Roundup was tested on human embryonic kidney cells at concentrations between 1 to 20,000 parts per million (ppm). It was found that concentrations as low as 50 ppm per million, which the authors noted were “far below agricultural dilutions,” induced cell death, with the 50% of the cells dying at 57.5 ppm.

The researchers also found that the insecticidal toxin produced by GM plants known as Cry1Ab was capable of causing cell death at 100 ppm concentrations.

Taken together the authors concluded:
“In these results, we argue that modified Bt toxins are not inert on nontarget human cells, and that they can present combined side-effects with other residues of pesticides specific to GM plants

These disturbing findings follow on the heels of[coor=blue] recent revelations that Roundup is several orders of magnitude more toxic than previously believed. Only 5 days ago (Feb. 14) the journal Archives of Toxicology reported that Roundup is toxic to human DNA even when diluted to concentrations 450-fold lower than used in agricultural applications. This effect is likely due to the presence of the surfactant polyoxyethyleneamine within the Roundup formulation which may dramatically enhance the absorption of glyphosate into exposed human cells and tissue.

Here is an irony:
Many of those on the political left strongly oppose genetically modified foods, and worry that the genetically modified genes could irreversibly spread to natural strains of crops through cross-pollination. Several studies have noted the unintended spread of genetically modified crops to adjacent fields. The danger is that the inclusion of genetically modifed genes into the wider plant species may be irreversible, and the gene spreading may go on without anyone noticing. Opponents of genetically modified foods worry about inintended consequences. Despite most people being against GM foods (see note*), as of the year 2000, approximately 54% of all soybeans grown in the USA were genetically modified, compared with only 7% of soybeans in 1996. Most americans are not aware they are eating soybeans. Soybean oil is the main compenent in most american "vegetable" oils used for cooking. Most chocholates sold also contain soybean oil (read the small print ingredients). 45% of all corn grown in the USA is genetically modified.

So why are these same people not concerned about human racial genetics?
Interracial mixing is inevitible and to try to reverse mixing of racial genes is virtually impossible. Just as has been happening with crops, there are fewer babies of european ancestry being born in the USA, and a drastic increase in births of other races. Unlike crops, we cannot simply recall tainted products, or burn fields that have been contaminated by cross pollination with GM crops. You people that are against GM foods, but advocate a multiracial society are hypocrites!

*Note: http://www.guardian.co.uk/science/2003/sep/25/sciencenews.highereducation
One study found that 27% of Australians look at the labels in the grocery store to see if it contains genetically modified food. A poll by biotech and pharmaceutical giant Novartis released in February 1997 found 54% of American consumers stating that they would prefer to see chemical-intensive agriculture move toward organic production. In the same poll 93% said that genetically engineered foods should be labeled, with 73% indicating that they felt "strongly" about this. In a study done by the Center for Science in the Public Interest, 52% of americans consumers said they would choose a product labeled "does not contain genetically engineered ingredients" over a product labeled, "contains genetically engineered ingredient". Americans felt so strongly about labeling GM foods that 28% of them said they would still want all genetically engineered products to be labeled even if it added an additional $50 per year to their family’s cost of food!

After doing a little research on Monsanto I have oficially changed my mind.

Monsanto is not your friend...they are trying to monopolize the world food supply.

Their business practices are crimminal and they need to be held responsible for the damage they create not only in the U.S. but Mexico, Australia, India, Europe, and many other places across the globe.

I will provide no links...do your own homework.

I am not against AG chemicals but this is insane!
