Statues erected on public land by racists purporting to honour individuals who are on record as having attacked the United States and killed Americans who defended the United States do not belong in the United States.

To the United States. If the Confederate States of America wish to venerate Lee, the only obstacle to its doing that - beyond moral considerations - is the non-existence of the Confederate States of America. I'm told that winning has consequences, and so does losing.

History is fine. It is sitting in a hundred libraries, the internet and countless historical papers throughout every university. This is not history. Its basic two paragraph long propaganda from a previous era ( all statues with those engravings are), that apparently is too dated to reflect the current culture of that town.

What is condescending is for folks outside New Orleans to tell New Orleans what statues they have to keep in their own park. They don't want it sitting in there. If you like it, offer to buy it!
