Because of the need for bigger and better batteries we will only shift the environmental impact. And the question can we truly move to "renewables" and meet our demand in a truly environmentally friendly way.
assine is correct... for statement that is... if you wish to combat climate change, lobby to shutdown haarp, which emmits microwaves into the ionosphere to 'steer' the jet stream and create massive weather pattern changes... yep, it is a weapon used to convince 'blind faithers' to buy into green bs...
It would make an amusing book to alphabetically list their bat crap crazy conspiracy theories with detailed descriptions and market it along with videos of their insanely stupid explanations and opinions...a boxed set. Some of my favorites are Pizzagate, the Boston Marathon bombing was staged (and the Obamas were somehow involved) and Obama was indoctrinating children during a back to school radio pep talk.
He doesn't, it's impossible. Even the best wind farms often rely on other forms of energy to supplement their power. They are also expensive and while booming, will be replaced by solar very shortly.
Bigger and better batteries do not have to be lithium ion. There is a lot of research into graphene supercapacitors, Solid state lithium ion batteries are now being delivered for industrial use. Such batteries could double the range of a Tesla 3 , a Bolt or a Leaf and make them directly competative with gasoline cars in terms of range (actually better than nearly all performance cars, and faster too). And they have signifianctly less environmental impact (the electrolyte).
So you think only Tesla is a large commercial enterprise and phone manufacturers aren't? Fascinating. Musk promises to not use Cobalt in their batteries in the future. Promise.
t I saw your point! But they expect to have cobalt engineered out of lithium ion batteries in another year or two.
But you can with the energy stored in battery farms powered by renewables. Indeed, that has already happened. https://reneweconomy.com.au/how-the-tesla-big-battery-kept-the-lights-on-in-south-australia-20393/
Divers recently found a seven thousand year old native American burial site under the water in the gulf of Mexico off the Florida coast. It used to be dry land. Scientists have also concluded that five thousand years before that(12 thousand years ago) global warming wiped out the Woolly Mammoths. Not that modern man can't muck it up. But it seems that while the earth doesn't pollute itself, it warms up and cools down regularly by other means.
Our sun is getting hotter and brighter every second, but it has about another 5 billion years before supernova. In about 1 billion years it will get hot enough to slowly evaporate our oceans and turn this planet into another Venus with hot water vapor atmosphere. I doubt any life form will make it to witness the supernova. One curious thing - during the red giant stage the conditions on Triton are going to be comparable to Earth. Too bad it won’t last long enough for evolution to take place.
Conversely, you can walk the ranch land of west Texas and find the fossil remains of fish, aquatic microorganisms, and the like lying right on the ground, which was once the bottom of the sea. You flat earthers can rant and rave about global warming all you want, but the paradigm has shifted toward renewables and electric cars. Both have been attracting serious investment capital for some time, and the trend is upward. The days when the big oil companies can buy junk science from guys like S Fred Singer and yell "ah ha" for the right wing bloggers and talk radio screamers is coming to an end. The entire business model of the electric power industry is being turned on its head. And batteries and renewables are leading the charge.
I think the days of scaring people into voting Democrat with fear tactics of racism or global climate change catastrophe are over. Y'all need a new schtick.
Why is it that those who oppose renewable energy sources think if the sun don't shine or the wind don't blow there ain't any power to be had? Perhaps the energizer bunny should write a book - oh wait... , maybe a video would be more effective.
I was mainly referring to the fact that the business of electric power generation and the size of the market are beginning to undergo a transformation, and that these forces don't favor coal or nuclear. But I did remark on the collection of crackpots and junk scientists who the oil companies use to flood the right wing noise bubble with denial and silly stereotypes. The concensus has moved on. There is no debate. Just a bunch of angry deniers who seem ot be mad again because nobody is listening to them anymore. I was referring to the
Tell all this BS to the Alaskan Inuit who are having to move further and further inland as the once rock solid permafrost turns to mush under their feet.
Well aren't you just so modern. The global warming science is only a few short decades old. And the entire modern world, including batteries, electric cars and renewables was and are still built on oil. Your childhood home and the automobile that took your Mom to the Hospital where you were born were compliments of oil. So you should at least get to where you're going before damning the means of your arrival.
And sadly, the earth will continue warming until it turns the corner towards cooling, because that's what it has always done.
That really made no sense at all. I was just pointing out that the age of almost total dependence on hydrocarbons is coming to an end. And now that the deflection point has been passed, the transition will happen a lot faster than most people (especially in the denial end) expect it to.
