I don't know what to believe.

I've been under the assumption that the North Koreans were just screwy in the head, or making threats so we would send them more food.

But according to this article, Obama is actually trying to stir things up and maybe even start a war.

And a war with North Korea would make Iraq and Afghanistan look like a Sunday picnic.

And the last time we fought in North Korea, we were up against 600 million screaming Chinamen.

And today, there's one billion screaming Chinamen to fight if happens again.

So would someone explain to me why Obama would stir up the pot in this way?

I would really like to know.

Obama is trying to stir the pot because, like all US presidents who came before him, he is trying to cater to his offense contractor pals.

War is really bad if you think in terms of cost to the people, human lives etc. But when it comes to business, they need war.

When people wise up and realize how much of their money is being given away to these greedy war promoters (like the trillion they are going to spend on the inferior F-35 jet) you realize that it was never about the well being of their own people, or even human lives anywhere in the world. It's about making war. The USA is by far the biggest global weapons proliferator the world has ever seen. It makes sense that they want to stir as many pots as possible.

Of course, the powers that be don't want the common people to be worrying about the ridiculously wasteful "defense" spending and so will try to redirect their attention and rage to other things that are a mere drop in the bucket by comparison to this waste, suchas the food stamps for example.. As much anti-welfare rage that exists, they still don't realize they are giving FAR more free money away to crooked banks and offense contractors.

    Enemies, dear chap.
If you don't have enemies, you tend to see what the enemies take your eyes off.
The Soviet union died so you needed a new enemy, Muslims.
That enemy's shelf life is nearing so you need a new one.
See the stuff about china over the past few months.
There was very little before then but now they're becoming the evil anti America force.

It was in the news yesterday, Reuters, that China and Russia oppose intervention in North Korea. That caught my attention. I have been watching closely how North Korea threatens its neighbor and our country with destruction. They've been testing nuclear weapons at the consternation of the US, UK, Japan, South Korea, and even Russia and China. Now, those two have clearly taken an "Anti-West" approach to this issue, just as they have with Iran and Syria.

However, as your article points out:

Our 'pivot' is happening. We are setting ourselves up for conflict. I'd wager that the War Plans for North Korea are current, just as I'd wager that we're heading towards War with China.

I've never thought that our pivot would bring about peace. I believe we're trying to contain China, do everything we can to prevent it from becoming a superpower. If you recall, during the HW Bush administration, it was let out of the bag that we would not allow another superpower to form. Unless I missed it, that policy has not changed. Secretary of Defense Panetta has said that countries with rising economies, like the BRICS, constitute a national security threat. I believe we all know that China is a grave national security threat in itself.

    But, let's hope and pray!

Obama made it clear yesterday when he was talking about his US government computers being 'hacked by China'

He called them 'the enemy of Americans'

The Americans are war and murder and weapons mad and completely out of control and they have the nerve to call Kim Jung Un crazy for testing his defence against their aggression around the world

North Korea is a fundamentally unstable regime. It is a classic totalitarian set-up (think Stalinist) and has a massive military for its available resources and has had for decades. The leadership appears to be getting more wonky with each succeeding generation and the economic cracks in the system are enormous. They now have a few nuclear warheads and are trying to create real continental and intercontinental missiles.

President Obama would be derelict in his duty NOT to be very worried about North Korea, one of the three nations mentioned in George Dubya Bush's "Axis of Evil". Since there are virtually zero Islamo-fascists in North Korea, Dubya must have had other reasons for placing North Korea on the short list of nations the USA had to be worried about.

It wouldn't be the first time the US found some way to prod another nation into attacking and starting something. I don't think Obama is the bum to point to; he's just the public figure head.

Support for Zionism's opponents. You don't have to look any further than that for the roots of US of AIPAC policy.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_Korea–Palestine_relations

The belief is that justice in the Middle East is ' anti-American '. That's how propaganda-saturated Washington has become. Should we worry ? You bet. One of the world's superpowers is being run by Zionism's fanboys. The US of AIPAC lost the UN vote for Palestinian Statehood by 138-9. North Korea is but one of those 138. End of empire ? One can but hope.

Not all American foreign policy revolves around what AIPAC wants, Moon. North Korea is ruled by one not too balanced man, the grandson of a Stalinist personality-cult ruler with a massive secret police and an even more massive army who has several nuclear bombs and who is trying to built long range rockets. North Korea is not at peace with the USA or South Korea: theoretically they have an armistice/cease-fire rather than a peace treaty (hence the DMZ). Just how does any of this fill President Obama with confidence for the safety of America and of her interests?

I disagree. I've never seen such a pack of conditioned goons as exists on the hill. It's really very frightening.

There's a good argument that MacArthur should have been allowed to wipe out North Korea. It should have been done long ago. It needs to be done now.

When did the UN vote to recognize palestine as a state? Last I saw it was a vote to upgrade to non-member observer status.

I am with ya. Anyone who understands the Korean War understands the danger in the Korean War part II. But there are some differences today... both good and bad. I do not think China would get involved this time... good... but North Korea now has nuclear weapons... very bad.

The Iraq war was easy, a fight against an outmatched army with little loyalty to the regime (am talking of the defeat of the Iraqi military and not the chaotic aftermath of the collapse of Saddam's government). Afghanistan, a lot worse than Iraq because the fighters while not well equipped are fiercely loyal to their cause making them extraordinarily dangerous. North Korea would be a nightmare due to the harsh terrain and the fact we would be facing a very large well equipped and fanatical army led by a megalomaniac who has nuclear weapons.

With that said, the POTUS cannot just allow NK to set the terms. Sadly sooner or later we will be forced to deal with NK... or perhaps we will get lucky and it will collapse from within.
