It does not ban you from checking out anything in your cart.

 

Applies to any food that has rates of salt and sugar and such above set limits. That would include most soft drinks- which apparently you could put in your cart, but not put on the checkout stand.
By itself, it's kind of trivial- but has the potential to become a precedent for many things. Personally, I expect California to self destruct in the near future anyway...

 

So you agree that if I am a council member, it's righteous for me to decide what's good for you to eat, and pass laws to make it so. Noted. Asparagus bars will soon dominate the checkout stands, no doubt.
