What in hell does that have to do with my pointing out the OP is complete horse dung? People can still buy junk food at supermarkets. It just won’t be shelved at the registers.

Forget the OP for a second, you OK with the government telling you how to showcase your merchandise?

Oil, salt and potatoes. It's a recipe, not a controlled substance. Get real.

Lol. Not only that, anyone who fails to comply with the law should get a one way trip to the loony bin. Would you risk your business over where potato chips can be located?

DUH...They are moving the sweets and junk food away from the cash registers not the paying customers. They are looking out for their customers health as they should. We are all too fat assed already just look at the orange blob in the White House.

So you admit that the local government can tell you how to run your business. Noted.

Admit? Like it's some kind of secret? Where do you think the owner gets that license you were referring to?

You bring up a good point! The government allows you to go into business! Why can't we go into business without government?

Probably emanates from the commerce clause in the US Constitution.

Try again, the commerce clause is about commerce between the states.

Try again? Lol. You're the one who asked. I don't care why the government regulates commerce. I just know that it does. I have no beef with it.

    ONE City did something?

    So what?

That One City does NOT speak for ALL "Liberals".

    Back to the drawing board.

AND taking candy you want to buy to the checkstand..... Use that Grey Matter. Understand the meaning of things- the intended effect, and the precedent they are setting.

Of course, the only relevant point to the post is the question of who gets to decide what food you can or cannot buy- YOU, or the city officials?
    It's a small point- a big precedent. It's liberal.

    It is stupid AF.

Your assertions however are completely inaccurate.

It does not ban you from checking out anything in your cart.

Applies to any food that has rates of salt and sugar and such above set limits. That would include most soft drinks- which apparently you could put in your cart, but not put on the checkout stand.
By itself, it's kind of trivial- but has the potential to become a precedent for many things. Personally, I expect California to self destruct in the near future anyway...

So you agree that if I am a council member, it's righteous for me to decide what's good for you to eat, and pass laws to make it so. Noted. Asparagus bars will soon dominate the checkout stands, no doubt.

I recall it started when I was a little kid.

And Dinosaurs roamed in Bulk Foods

The stores were quite proud of it, putting big signs up saying how much they were saving all our teeth and health.

And I got sent back to the candy aisle to get whole bags of 3 Musketeers instead of just one or two as a treat.

How early we learn the benefits of the law of unintended consequences.
