I'd go for a flat tax. No one pays a penny up to the poverty line, then everyone pays 10 cents on the dollar of income above that.

The problem there is for people who do pass through taxes on their personal income tax is how do you define income or a person has huge medical expenses in a year, 30% of their income, do you still tax the gross at 10%? As soon as you put in place an exemption it is no longer a flat tax. We have made it "flatter" over the years and thus the fallacy some like to make when they say "the tax rate on the rich was 90% back in the 1950's" when there were HUGE deductions which actually brought down the effective rates to pretty much what they are now.

The reason there's a whistleblower is that Trump is being sued by the IRS for fraudulently claiming an $80 million tax return.

 

How does any of that apply if he divested like you claim??

Trump didn't give a nickel. That was not a 'gift' it was a settlement in a civil suit. Civil suits are governed by tort law, righting wrongs, punitive damages, etc.

Moreover, Trump's associate paid it.

 

Tax policy is a different topic, but getting mingled here. Flat tax, IMO would be flat tax. No pass throughs and people with medical expenses is a separate health policy issue with insurance company regulations. IRS should just take a flat tax out of people's checks. No one has to file income tax returns. CPA's and tax attorney's would have to retrain to find new jobs. lol
