The first thing you assume is they quit because she's black?

Wow. Like, wow. I don't even know how to respond to that...

That's really the first thing you thought? Wow. I feel sorry for you.

There really isn't much evidence as to why the city officials of Parma resigned. Perhaps one could discern why by their resignation letters. That would settle things and either bolster or shoot down uninformed calls of racism.

    http://www.wsmv.com/story/28814016/parma-residents-react-to-loss-of-police-officers

"Mayor Byrd said the resignation letters cannot be found and that the computers were cleared."

There is a rash of computer crashes amongst controversy. I'm sure computers crash because of racism. There can be no other explanation.

Racism and possible racism is where there is evidence of it. We have a prima facie case here which requires more evidence, but nonetheless, by it's own merits displays a probable cause of racism.

And of yet you have no evidence.. Considering the leading articles on this are from trash sites like Rawstory, Daily Kos and Addicting info id wait till more information comes out..

You can "find" it wherever you want to "find" it.

Just like those old ladies, "found racism" at the local deli. There was no racism to be found, yet if you ask them they will tell you they found it.

The first question that needs to be answered here is, is it legal to be a racist dick? The answer is yes it is legal to be a dick. Question why worry about investigating anything should we not be happy that the people who quit are no longer in a position of power?

Actually, no it doesn't. It just feeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeels like it should to leftists, and therefore based on their feelings alone it MUST be racist. Yeah like the nation hasn't seen that play out three times in the last few years only to see it ultimately have nothing whatsoever to do with racism at all; AFTER race hustling and race baiting leftists have once again helped tear this nation apart; that is, as has become their modus operandi these past six years.

Of course you see it as racism. You, along with Al Sharpton, only see color. You don't see people or individual actions, you see color. Pathetic.

Neither the words "black" nor "female" appear in the article title.

Officers, city officials resign after new mayor elected

Counting down the seconds 'til this thread disappears, as it should.

No, I meant to say alternative... alternative to the narrative.

Right, very current, but typically you should try to be a bit more subtle when outside of Political Opinions and Beliefs. Look at me quibbling.

I got the original story from a local Mo.TV station. You must have missed that. You also missed my claim of "circumstantial evidence". Reading is fundamental.

While I feel resigning is wrong, the blame begins with the race and gender baiting progressives who have demonized white, straight men for decades.

Thanks for pointing that out, however irrelevant it is to this article.

I think allegations of corruption leading to this mayors election, campaigning to clean it up, then all the computers being wiped is relevant... yet pages keep going by and you have yet to comment.

To know what's really going on here - we need to first know what platforms the new mayor campaigned on. It could very well be that she campaigned on getting rid of what she felt was a corrupt force. In that case, I wouldn't blame anyone who resigned.

We're only getting a smidgen of the story. It's easy to jump to conclusions but it isn't prudent.

The first question is why is this a newsworthy story? People quit jobs when administrations change all the time. The fact that's it's a small town, that 5 out of 6 cops quit (without reason) and the two other officials quit because of safety concerns, is not a common event. Coupled with the fact that it's a black female that got elected, this is prime for the speculation of racist intents, and that of course makes this intriguing.

It's not about the article, it's about you acting responsibly and taking responsibility when you do not.

Considering the overall circumstances, no rational person could deduce anything other than racism or criminal cronyism .

They didn't quit without reason. They did write letters or e-mails explaining why they quit. The mayor destroyed those communications. If the mayor wanted to push the OPs agenda on racism, she could have released the resignation letters to the public, but she didn't. She destroyed them. It would be to the mayors advantage to push forth a narrative of racism so it makes the destruction of the letters all the more.....suspect?.....interesting?....odd?.

Seems more likely in such a small community they know the lady and are not confident in her abilities to lead. The population during the last census showed the racial makeup of the city was 67.46% White, 29.45% Black, so obviously there are white people who think she is capable.

Would you (or the citizens since they are the only one's who matter anyway) rather have these people remain in office/positions so they can undermine her authority at every turn? Sounds like the voters got what they wanted. They should be rejoicing at the way things have turned out. The person that it will be hardest to replace is probably the waste management supervisor.

If she had Gaul, she'd be French, and that would be even MORE unacceptable.... :)

Racism is certainly a top suspect, but consider this: the previous mayor had served for 37 years, and lost by a handful of votes. This is a tiny, tiny town (pop. 713). It might simply be misguided loyalty to the outgoing mayor.

Or it might be something else:
    http://www.wsmv.com/story/28814016/parma-residents-react-to-loss-of-police-officers

Mayor Tyrus Byrd began her first day in office with a clean slate. Literally.

Mayor Byrd said the resignation letters cannot be found and that the computers were cleared.

So they wiped the computers before leaving. Not suspicious or anything...

    I did like this reaction:

Some say they're relieved about the situation and that Parma doesn't have that many problems in town to require so many officers.

“I think it was pretty dirty the way they all quit without giving her a chance, but I don't think they hurt the town with quitting because who needs six police for 740 people?” said Martha Miller of Parma.

Not sure why you think the incoming, and not the outgoing mayor destroyed those records and wiped those computers.
