Amazing if true, twenty years ago fields of solar panels were called "tax farms" because their profitability depended on subsidies. Nowadays leading solar panel producers fight to keep those subsidies and arrange complicated pricing deals to force electric power companies to pay more for solar power than they do for hydroelectric and thermoelectric power. What happened to Solyndra?

I am skeptical of these market reports that try to blame the Dow being down because of falling oil prices. If anything, most of the market should be up because of falling fuel prices, except of course for companies directly in the industry.

 

That's nice. Really it is.
But you have to transport that energy to where it is going to be used and convert it to a form usable by the vehicle then convert it to mechanical energy, and factor in the energy losses and energy inputs and costs of creating the materials involved in this process if the country were to switch to an electric based model of automobile transportation.

DC was like that when I lived there. I still had to drive about ten miles to the metro to make my commute between an hour to and hour and a half each way. If I had taken the bus to the metro, it would have added about another hour to the trip each way because for reasons known but to God, the bus that picked up in my neighborhood did not go to the closest metro station or even the second closest metro station.

 

And this is the only road that people could travel to get from where ever to where ever they wished to go? I could not imagine people driving on a road in that condition here, nor do we let people drive on roads that aren't completed.

Even in our poorer states, where populations are sparse and road budgets low, there are multiple paved roads to pick from (county roads and state highways) in addition to federally maintained freeways. Nowhere in this country would you find a situation like you have with Lena.

I would love to move all vehicles on the road over to electric... except for the silence, apparently in Chengdu China some use electric scooters and at night time they don't always use their lights... deadly.

As for oil prices, it's a slow strangle for the Russian economy...I do feel sorry for everyday Russians, why do their leaders always have to be at odds with the west? They could be living much better.
