I have. All it tells us is that we must keep an open mind. Never believe you have all the answers

While anyone can call it that and snicker, it might be more useful if we called it a working hypothesis and went over it together. To that end we'd need to begin with what we can all observe and agree on together:
    1. Physical birth and death are points in our shared space/time of four dimensions.
    2. We have free will, and we apparently make decisions with brain funtions that take place at the quantum level.
    3. The fact that quantum phenomena present the simultaneous existence of multiple space/times (Schrödinger's cat is both alive and dead) requires that we exist way beyond this chump change 4D space/time bounded by our birth/death.
    4. We know for a fact that our interactions w/ others goes beyond our temporal lifespan boundaries (our parent's 'gleam in the eye', our heirs reading our will, etc.).
If we can agree/tweak these points, then following them as steps may lead to an agreed understanding of what we can know about our existence beyond our physical limits.

I dunno. I think the only thing we can do is to make blind guesses about what may or may not happen.

Agreed - none of which likely have any validity. Then again we can never know for sure.

I do not think you have fully appreciated the magnitude of willing your finger to move. What is this "will" - where for example did the thought to move your finger come from ?

How is it that you manage to control this will - or your own thoughts ?

Where did the "will" come from ? the first thought ?

And finally - how is this thought able to manifest itself into physical reality. Sure your brain is connected to your finger - but what about your thoughts ?

How is it that you know you exist ?

You can say that electrical impulses generated in the brain - that somehow formed - are your thoughts but, this would also be a leap as we do not know this. We know that our thoughts manifest themselves in the form of brain activity but, we do not know that the brain activity created the thought.

Even if this is true - how did you gain control over that brain activity ?

You say "my brain is connected to my finger" ... your brain is also connected to the universe. Your body is made up of atoms and those atoms are made up of a whole lot of empty space. You are only seem connected on a macroscopic level. Drill down deeper and these connections disappear.

Easy. God told me that he doesn't exist. How can I argue with that?

Finding one fallacy does not prove every other claim to be false. I argue that each fantastical claim needs to be individually vetted and that the burden of proof is upon those who make the positive claim as it is impossible to prove the negative claim.

It is my experience that those who call themselves "atheists" (though not all) gravitate toward threads that elevate their own beliefs. Call it what you will, secular humanism, situational ethics, moral relativity, it doesn't really matter. The funny thing about it, though they take their beliefs on "faith", they feel threatened and challenged when others express their opposing beliefs.
When a thread is posted, it is thought that other frame of references might be welcomed.....not so with the Godless.

Getting more real.... the idea that you are master of your own Destiny is a far flung deal. The storms of life will upset you in a heartbeat.

Obviously the basis of quantum mechanics is all physics before it. But Einstein never "came on board". Not completely, anyway.

    Certainly!

The common understanding of the word "god" by any English speaker is a being that is outside of nature.

You're the only one unilaterally decreeing anything different than what the common understanding is.

That's a very old trick by deists. Defining "god" as anything arbitrary that exists, and then claiming that since that arbitrary thing exists, then god exists. Nonsensical circular reasoning.

I have zero faith. Everything I said in that post is backed up by literally all the evidence we have. There is not such thing as a "void", "How does Matter exist?" is a nonsensical question, Light is a form of energy, darkness doesn't exist as a thing for the reason you stated.

You do not consider a "black hole" a void? Darkness does exist. It exists when there is no light. Look into your own soul. Just because you speak doesn't make it so.

Darkness doesn't exist. Its a descriptive term we use for an area lacking light. Its not a thing that exists.

If you really want to get down to it, Darkness doesn't exist because every is filled with some kind of light just outside of a spectrum we are capable of seeing.

And no, a black hole isn't a void.

Sorry to hear you're so bad off, hope you get better. Folks I know are in the habit of making things happen the way we want. Yeah, some things end up being more work than we thot they'd be at first but we just laugh and try harder. In general we're able to end up making good lives for ourselves.

It sure seems at times this helpless attitude is what's been messing things up for a big chunk of the population but I'm cautiously optimistic that most will get their act together.
