Wrong! If we started with all organic food today millions would starve inside of a month or two and more would continue to starve.

    - - - Updated - - -

Correct! All you have to do is FIND ENOUGH ORGANIC FERTILIZER to grow sufficient food.

There is no scientific proof that GMOs are harmful to health, nada, nicht, period. It is a big hoax pushed by people who hate any kind of advancement.

No, they simply don't fall victim to stupid noveau ideas about food. Food snobs have been making waves about food production since ancient times.

I have never known of anyone intentionally feeding anyone toxic food. That is absurd from the outset.
It is quite ignorant that anyone is doing what you suggest they are. All of the foods we produce whether by organic or GMO or standard fertilizer is good for the human body and proved time and again by scientists.

What kind of a snotty comment is this in reference to my post about my daughter's cancer and changing her diet to nothing but healthy foods and she's now cancer-free and doing well?

To be fair, this is the same reasoning that led medieval doctors to believe that leeches cured sickness. "I leached him and he got better. That means it cured him." There's a reason we don't approach medicine this way anymore. No disrespect to your daughter, or her suffering. However, please understand that misleading people about medicine and health can cause even more suffering.

Fine.....all I'm saying is when she got out of the hospital, she started researching foods, the diff b/t the Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO) and organic and surprised at what she was learning AND the difference in how she FELT when she ate both. Her Oncologist told her whatever she was doing/eating was working. It was a long haul for her after a month of chemo, which really leaves a person sick and no immune system....but she's healthy now and her meals are organic 95% of the time.......

Have a family member who got curious about fast foods and took a college course on nutrition. What he learned about fast foods made him to never go to another fast food place again.

The one food that I found has many health benefits is pure/virgin coconut oil. I fry my chix, salmon, etc in it.......good healthy stuff.

I'm not against the idea of eating healthier food. Any doctor will tell you to eat a diverse diet, rich in fruits and vegetables. There's even some evidence that avoiding pesticides and herbicides has beneficial effects, although these are sometimes exaggerated. Where people lose me is when they start avoiding fruits in vegetables just because they had a gene tweaked in the laboratory. As other posters have said, there's not much evidence that these are dangerous. Some people claim to provide evidence, but a lot of it is uninformed noise. Even if you could find one example, it still would not prove that *all* GMO's are automatically harmful, regardless of how they have been modified, which is exactly what many people are claiming.

medieval doctors were the rich of their time who misled people with false cures for more money.

today when you follow the money you see the 'witch doctors' are actually the medical community who profit from treating disease, rather than finding a cure.

this goes the same for the food industry when profiting by selling inexpensive unhealthy food, which lead to chronic diseases as we clearly see all around us, rather than expensive healthy food.

there are people who eat healthy in countries that tightly regulate their foods and have no disease, but in America even healthy people develop diseases.

Sure, many of them were rich. I'm sure a lot of poor people living in the woods at that time believed in lots of similarly ridiculous cures as well at the time, based on similar reasoning. Look at what Russian peasants did for cures in the past. By modern standards, it's laughable. Obviously, being poor didn't make them any more knowledgeable about medicine.

However, to say that medieval doctors were wrong because they were rich is silly. They were wrong because they used flawed reasoning. If we suddenly get rid of all medicine that has ever been exchanged for money, we'll end up awfully short on medicine.

Call it snotty if you wish, but recognize the stupidity of the belief that organic food "cured" her. That is a lot of BS. There is noting in organic food which will cure Leukemia. One of my family members had Leukemia as well. He chose not to follow the standard treatment and did nothing. He went into remission and lived another 8 years before being killed in an auto accident.

Oh yeah, and as a parent you diligently decided not to treat your child with medications known to "cure" Leukemia, right?

Disease from food tends to revolve around what is inside the food, not on the food. Contaminated organic food is one of the most common disease borne foods we eat. External applications to protect the food can be washed and cleaned. It is amazing how little people really know about growing food. There is NO scientific evidence that GMOs are harmful.

well it depends if the medicine men are motivated by greed or not, it appears today that they are motivated by greed since they aren't opposing the food poisoning as more sick people means more money.

capitalism in medicine and food is all well and good as long as the competition is for the greater good

Our agronomists and farmers are always seeking better more nutritious food in greater quantities. You are a tomato farmer whose crops are threatened by a persistent species of beetle. Each year, you spend large sums of money for pesticides to protect your crops. A biotechnology company introduces a new strain of tomato plant that produces a natural pesticide, making it resistant to the beetle. By switching to this new strain, you could avoid both the beetle and the chemical pesticides traditionally needed to fight it."

    http://learn.genetics.utah.edu/content/science/gmfoods/

“Here’s the secret of hybrid corn.
Hybridization is just crude genetic engineering,” says the technology commentator Robert X. Cringley.

It takes longer to use hybridization to GM food. Splicing genes is faster and produces the same effect years quicker.

GMO Food Isn’t Coming to Get You—It’s Been Here All Along

In the U.S., when the National Organic Standards Board defined GMOs in 1995, it started with something similar to the E.U., but sought to revise the rule in 2012. When the board members began doing research for the revisions, they found that, under their existing definition, lots of organic farmers were growing GMOs.

SO TELL ME NOW, are your ORGANIC foods really organic? Or are they genetically modified but around so long they cannot be identified? Is simply using natural pesticides and fertilizers what really makes the food organic? Recognizing too that hybridization is an ancient method of creating genetically modified food by breeding different traits? Is anyone suggesting that splicing a natural bacteria into a corn breed is any less save than spraying that pesticide on the crop as it grows?

I find it difficult to understand food snobs who overlook the years of testing to verify safety and try to speculate.

"Organic' labeling is nothing more than a scam to charge more $$$ for less food created by whacko environmentalists and fanny sitting bureaucrats. It creates a whole government regulation/certification segment that we PAY for with our tax dollars. In order to be 'organic' one has to pay fees to the USDA, hire an 'organic certifying agent, etc. Also fines can be levied for selling non-organic food as 'organic.' Total and complete insanity.

On this subject you and I agree. Conservationists I accept, tree huggers are only looking for publicity. There is no valid chemical/biological reason to make like GMO food are any less safe, nutritious than either standard grown or organic food.

Every organic thread I've ever seen on the internet, has the crazies on it. ^
    People who are totally clueless.

#1 - Big Organic farms are not as good as smaller organic farms.
#2 - ALL Organic farms are not allowed to use the same chemical pesticides conventional farms use.
#3 - Some conventionally grown food has "loads" or pesticide residue.
#4 - All organic food has less pesticide residue. Most organic - has no residue.
$5 - the pesticides organic farms use, break down into nothing. The chemical pesticides conventional
farms use tend to stick around. They last a long time.
#6 - Some chemical pesticides - organophosphates - cause brain damage in children.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency now considers 60% of all herbicides, 90% of all fungicides, and 30% of all insecticides as potentially cancer-causing chemicals. A study by the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry published in 2009 discovered that children living in homes where pesticides are used (even a can of bug spray) are twice as likely to develop brain cancer as those living in homes in which no pesticides are used. Do you really want to eat something linked to causing cancer

Actually, you're partly correct. We do have to pay extra for the organic certification. That
means someone actually visits the farm, looks around and makes sure no chemical pesticides are used.
A small organic farm might pay $500 per year to be be certified organic, which is added to the
    price of the produce.

But the biggest filthy scam on the planet, is the use of cancer causing pesticides by
huge corporate farms who don't give a (*)(*)(*)(*) about the farm workers who must work in
the fields treated with pesticides, they don't give a (*)(*)(*)(*) about the environment, and they don't
give a (*)(*)(*)(*) about the health of consumers. That's the biggest scam.

We do know that certain pesticides cause brain damage in children.
We do know there are cancer clusters in small California towns that have had their groundwater supplies
    contaminated by chemical pesticides.
We do know farmers and farm workers have higher cancer rates than the general population.
We do know in the Punjab area of India, where farmers use ten times more pesticides than
anywhere else, cancer is exploding. They have "Cancer Trains" to haul the sick farmers to hospitals.

And we do know there is a lot of BS on internet forum coming from clueless people.

I am not against the use of herbicides, pesticides, or chemical fertilizers used properly. But i also understand that the addition of organic matter to the soil in the form of plant material, manures, and cover crops are essential to maintain the productivity of the soil. We can not continue to take from the soil without putting something back. The use of chemical fertilizers only will deplete the soil to such an extent that more chemicals are needed to maintain productivity and eventually the soil will become less drought resistant, harder to work and less productive.

I am also not against GMO's because they serve to better the quality of life for millions. As far as using human waste for fertilizer is fine as long as you make sure it is free of biological contaminates such as Cholera and E-Coli...along with worms and other nastiness.

Your statement is too simple. There are a lot of disadvantages with GMOs. Monsanto is
one of the dirtiest corporations on earth - PURE GREED - but they pour $millions
into convincing people like you, that they are 'saving' the world from starvation. They're not.
What GMOs are good at doing, is robbing from small farmers, and giving to gigantic corporate farms.
In the long term, we will all lose. Wait and see.

Punjab is the breadbasket of India. They have acres of good soil but they don't quite understand
what pesticides are... yet, so they use a lot of pesticides and chemical fertilizers to increase yields. They need money. That's how poor people are. They need money more than anything else.

But now, the farmers die from cancer, and they're also losing their farms.

And your statement is all opinion and nothing else. If you haven't noticed the profit motive guides all corporations and it is also the motive behind organic growers.
