Sad story, feel so bad for him & his parents. The North Korean regime is like a boil on this earth. I wish someone would take them out of existence. I agree about traveling abroad... American arrogance can get a person locked up and possibly killed.
I agree. I also don't buy that he was in a coma for a year either. It's doubtful they would spend that kind of effort to keep him alive. I don't even know if they have the medical capability to do that.
The families of these extreme adventurer types never do. Too busy basking in the reflected 'glory', and congratulating themselves on having produced/married/befriended such an Awesome Superhero.
Not nearly as sad as all those far less privileged people (who better understand how fragile and precious life is) who do their best to avoid danger, and end up dying of cancer young. This barely even registers on the sadometer, in comparison. More movement seen on the angerometer ... because his hubris has condemned his family.
Why exactly was he there? I read he was "taking as a tour of the country". Was it school related or just a stupid idea by him and friends to take a trip there.
I suppose it affects everyone differently, I certainly find it particularly heart breaking not only for him but also his family, I don't think it lessons their pain to think of the less privileged, they're still walking around with a hole in their chest. As for his pride, he's a young man and I certainly won't judge him for being the young achiever he obviously was. He went through hell and it must have shredded his parents to not be able to help him.
Of course, but that's what's so anger-making about it. I think it's quite reasonable to be angry at hubris filled rich kids who get themselves killed. I'm also compelled to ask ... what has gone wrong, that young males like him are so desperate to feel something that they take insane risks?
I would agree... yes he made a terrible mistake in going to North Korea and certainly what happened to him serves as a warning to all westerners, not only Americans, but he paid for it... with his life.
lol right? Although I don't see that as any reason to attack him, not any different than what any of us other guys do! We (well most of us) just dont have His house was hillarious, the main "party room" had velvet leopord print walls and blood red carpet.
I live near cincinnati and there is much hatred for the clowns who run that dictatorship Trump should tell that turd that runs the place he best release the other three Americans being held or his life will be over in a matter of how much time it takes a cruise missile to get there I think the Chinese are getting tired of those jerks and might protest a bit if we whacked the clown but would probably welcome it on the sly.
a guy I used to shoot with, a CSM, who had served in WWII, Korea and Nam said he commanded a couple machine gun positions and his men were p'ing on the brownings and dumping water on them to keep them from melting down. In one encounter-he figured his gunners killed a couple thousand and he took out about 27 Chinese trying to flank his guns-he set himself up behind a narrow pass in the hills which afforded him 15 yard head shots and after he killed them with an MI carbine they finally stopped since the pile of bodies impeded their advance. Just as his gunners were running low on ammo, the air support arrived and napalmed hundreds more that were still engaging the US positions. the CSM said he hadn't seen such a waste of infantry since Iwo Jima when he was a corporal manning a 30 caliber MMG against a banzai charge
