Yes folks, thank God for our benevolent liberals, that know what is best for each and every one of us. I for one wasn't aware that a 20oz soda has more calories and sugar than a 12oz soda. I guess Mayor Goonberg feels that fruit juice, milkshakes, and booze is just fine though. Seriously, can these idiot libs just get together and start their own country already? http://www.usatoday.com/news/health/story/2012-05-31/soda-ban-new-york-city/55296248/1
Yay for individiual liberties. Guess when you have to pay for the fatties medical costs, telling them they can't have something is perfectly ok. Of course, this wouldn't be an issue if the government got out of the medical profession and left people to deal with their own choices.
It's amazing that liberals actually believe this will have an effect on obesity rates. *Mod Edit* Leave off the flamebait comments.
My god, does this mean the 40 oz. malt liquor will be gone? Oh, wait, that's a favorite of Democrats. Never mind.
Oh, but heaven forbid you lock down what people using EBT can get for free. That is an infringement of civil rights if poor Margie cant get cheetos and soda, or McDs with the EBT loaded with OUR money.
Can't say i'm surprised, this is the city where cigarettes are $13 a pack. Thankfully I don't smoke cigs or drink soda!
I thought I read somewhere where a black market for cigarettes was created or expanded with the last tax increase. Any local word on that?
Other people do. Sucks for them, right? They have to deal with progressives and their nanny state that believes that they know what is best for people.
Good thing we have NYC to tell us what we should and should not be able to sell, buy or drink and eat. NYC has really fallen off the deep end. They are now in a competition with SF as the most left wing idiotic city in the world.
There are only two rights that liberals believe the government should leave alone, gay sex, and abortion. That is it, the rest they have no problem letting the government control.
Millions of people have left California and New York within the last 15 years. I really have no idea why.
Oh I agree that this is bull(*)(*)(*)(*). I don't agree with any government trying to control societal behavior, whether its vices by the left or marriage by the right.
They want their drugs left alone, also. They are able to make their own choices in those three areas, but for everything else, they need their Government.
I thought they were 10 and thought THAT was outrageous...13 bucks a pack? Right now you can avoid this, but sooner or later they will turn to something you enjoy.
Put "spending your own money" into that government control column. The government knows how to spend your money better than you do.
It's a toss up for me whether this is a simple case of liberal control, or its all about the money. Food establishments that don't downsize would face fines of $200. Fines/Taxes....We tax everything that moves and doesn't move...something like that? Enough already.
Is this too an example of the chill wind blowing through America about which Tim Robbins spoke? How can a liberal wish to make all drugs legal, but make illegal a jumbo soda?
It makes you think too. If the left are supposed to be the smart elite. Then why whenever a problem or a solution is needed to solve a problem, they run to government. They can't figure it out on their own? Just take healthcare. We have all these leftist in hollywood, and buffet and Gates, yet none of them can put money into a pot, and somehow come up with a healthcare plan to cover those who don't have and can't afford? Simply amazing.
That is easy to answer. Soda represents big business, and corporations. Drugs represent a sort of helping of the poor and spreading Americas wealth to impoverished south american countries.
It's really hard to make sense of their ideology. I don't believe every drug should be legalized, but I can at least respect the libertarian position and rationale behind it. It's consistent. With liberals, they want a drug like heroin available for sale, yet you can't buy a 20 oz bottle of soda? It makes no sense. How are they going to crack down on the people who try to refill their 16 oz soda cup? A new law enforcement division?
That's probably a big part of it. I hadn't thought of that. It would definitely help them keep more Democrats on the streets and out of jail, as well.
