Anyone else find irony in the fact that lefties....

who are most often the first to express support for authoritarian, nanny state laws ostensibly designed to protect us from hurting or killing our helpless selves...
and usually the first to argue socialist health care will lead to healthier, longer lifespans...

are also most often the first to launch into some screed about too many humans using up "Mother Gaia's" natural resources, polluting her precious environment, causing global warming...
and usually the first to posit something about population contol in abortion debates?

Now that O-bum-ba Care has based, you can kiss your biggie everything good bye.

As I stated before, I was fine with Bloomberg trying to do something about Americans Obesity problem, but now that the feds will have their hands in pot, you will be wishing it was only Bloomberg and his soda war in NYC!

You misunderstand the meaning of the word "irony." But beyond that, it's the right that get all frothy over the war on drugs. Glass houses, hombre.

Funny how New Yorkers used to be "tough"........

........and now its a city of 8 million limp wrists who let a two bit dictator of a Mayor dictate to them what they can eat and in what amount.

    New York has been castrated....

The reality is as follows (a potted history of supersizing):

A cinema owner wanted to increase profits and realised that by increasing the standard serving, he could damatically increase the profit on his product while slightly increasing the cost to him.

    It worked.

McDonalds heard about this and employed the Cenema owner.

Mr McDonald (who still ran McDonalds), opposed this. But the new guy had run studies in McDonalds and realised that people would eat as much food as was in front of them, but generally would not return for seconds.

    McDonald reluctantly agreed.

    McDonalds profits rose dramatically.

    All fast food places followed.

    Wall Street wanted more profits.

Value meals followed (another form of supersizing).

People continued to eat and eat, afterall humans are biologically pre-programmed to eat while there's food.

People became obese, unhealthy and many died early.

All because Wall Street wanted more of your money.

And you want to ultimately protect a companies right, to exploit the biological trait of people of a nation. That's not protecting an individuals right to decide, it's protecting a companies "right" to exploit.

I don't think NYC will pass this law.

    1. How do you enforce it?
    2. All you have to do is just buy more smaller drinks.

Yeah, you're right. Only liberals are fat.

If you honestly believe this, you are either stupid or partisan or both.

Are you able to take the spoon out of your mouth? Or do you need government to do it for you?

You have too much faith in your fellow liberals. It is NYC, and all this will do is cost people more money. Doesn't take a genius to figure that out.

    (1) Large 32 o.z. soft drink = $4.50
    (1) Medium 16 o.z. soft drink = $3.75

To buy (2) medium soft drinks would will cost $7.50, in the end you pay $3.00 more. Same amount of soda but more money! Brilliant!

And here come the paragons of virtue to protect us from ourselves and tell us how we should eat. The same people who have been telling us that fat and meat are bad, while subsidizing sugar and starch.
