A thing like the corona could take a country down to 3rd, 4th, or 5th world if the crisis were to be fully taken advantage of.

America seems determined to get there. It's unbelievable how many of your citizens are ignoring the lockdown.

Damn, I would have expected a more even distribution than that -- because people are people and the corona doesn't discriminate at all but is woke, so long as a person is breathing they are an acceptable next vector and victim.

Here's an idea: All new immigration would not allowed to be to high population density areas.
Most of the population growth in the country is due to immigration, with Americans having fertility rates slightly below the replacement rate.

Great idea. Even better, no immigration for a couple of years.

Blue states are more densely populated than red states.

Democrats tend to live in clusters, and viruses spread faster and fiercer in densely-packed populations.

They may as well call this "Democrat's Disease".

Wow, that map looks like a sea of red, with a few very tall pillars of blue scattered around.

Nothing to do with density, as big cities in Japan, S Korea, Indonesia etc (all more densely populated than any US city) have far less infection, and much slower growth.

Again though .. it's not a problem of density. If it was, all those more densely populated Asian nations would be worse off than America, and they're actually beating this thing better than the rest of the planet.

Those places took more severe actions earlier on, than we have. It’s just a medical fact that pandemics spread more easily in highly populated areas.

Because their governments ordered as a matter of law, a stay at home order. We can’t do that here as the constitution precludes it. Disease spreads faster in densely populated areas.

I think more people are infected than are confirmed infected, so in heavily populated areas the number of deaths would be higher

and the infected rate is higher due to things like mass transit

I heard some saying Corona can spread by breathing, not even having to cough or sneeze to get it onto the air

I wonder if leftism causes pop density or if pop density causes leftism. Clearly theres a corellation indicating a possible causation ...that leads to higher infection rates.

Of course, but the example of Asian cities is that it doesn't HAVE to.

Why is America getting it so wrong? The whole world is asking that today.

I agree but America is different. The government can’t quarantine citizens and for it the entire country from freely moving about.

Americans are greedy. We don’t want to sit at home and isolated from the things we enjoy. This is going to get so much worse in the coming weeks.

Yes, cities are hell .. I get that - and agree completely.

What the world is asking is why isn't America making it illegal to leave the home? And if there are 'constitutional' reasons for leaders not instituting such rules - why aren't Americans themselves just doing it voluntarily? That's what we did here, when our crappy leaders dithered and changed their minds every other day.

    1) Why not? We've closed our state borders here, and we're a western democracy just like America. Plus there's no non-essential travel, even driving an hour from home to go to the beach etc. No hunting, fishing, gold panning, camping, hiking, etc. Everything is outside the house is effectively verboten. Local essential exercise only (walking once a day - no sitting around in public spaces - no park benches, no sitting on beach, etc etc), no more than two people together outside unless from same household, etc etc. People are fined on the spot if breaching.

    2) Why? when they know the only way to stop this thing is for everyone to stay home. Do they want it to continue? What you're saying makes no sense. 99% of people here are desperate for it to be over and will therefore do whatever it takes - not because we're noble saints, but because we too are 'greedy'. We want our old lives and incomes back!
