    That's true!

You have The Washington Examiner, PJ Media, Fox, Alex Jones and a myriad of fake news sites that pop up every day, post some made up story (that gets cribbled by all the others and spread around), and don't forget Mr Trump's own answer to the Völkischer Beobachter, Breitbart!

I think that Donald Trump is going to find out that an update to an old political admonition applies to him as well.

The feckless corporate media gave Trump a stage on which to pander to morons and bigots and losers of all sorts. And they loved it (yes, education, or the lack thereof, is the chief statistical indicator for Trump supporters).

He was a tabloid celebrity candidate for an audience that eats that sort of thing up. And the media companies made lots of money off of Mr Trump. He knew it too. Which is why he punked them regularly. The press was happy to be the straight man for Trump's fear and ignorance act as long as they were cashing the checks.

Few people actually believed that he might win. Contrary to the daily rants of Trump lovers on forums like this, most of what is out there in the media about Trump is true (and documented to the degree that is possible given Trump's closed book )

The press was more critical of him in the fall, but hardly turned away from his buffoon act or his Twitstorms.

    But now he is President.

He's not running for anything, although you'd have a hard time noticing.

    The worm is turning.

Trump isn't going to be able to hold the audience with Twitstorms, even with the fawning admiration of Fox and the right wing trash blogs and the plethora of fake news sites.

At some point, Trump will have to stand for something ,and be able to point to an accomplishment.

After a while, even the morons are going to figure out that Trump isn't' creating jobs by blustering on social media.

This is a far taller order than staging idiotic antics for the cable TV shout shows to wring their hands about.

As one media commentator said last week, after Trump's tantrum of a press conference, " There's a lot of space to be filled, and if you don't talk to us, we will fill it anyway"

I think that if Trump continues to treat the press like garbage, or with utter disdain, he is goign to have a very,v ery miserable and difficult time.

Not that he needs to kiss ass or anything like that. The press reports. Now, there has been and will always be some tinting of the message to appeal to various markets, but if Trump wants to start excluding large segments of it that don't portray him s as favorably in his opinion, depriving press of access is only going to further the intrigue into what he is doing, and will allow them to set their own terms on what is discussed.

There is one paragraph of value here:

"We will set higher standards for ourselves than ever before. We credit you with highlighting serious and widespread distrust in the media across the political spectrum. Your campaign tapped into that, and it was a bracing wake-up call for us. We have to regain that trust. And we’ll do it through accurate, fearless reporting, by acknowledging our errors and abiding by the most stringent ethical standards we set for ourselves."

We will set higher standards for ourselves than ever before.

That would be an admirable accomplishment- but that standard would include the likes of Walter Cronkite, Barbara Walters, David Brinkley and so many others which actually were journalists- that had a core dedication to honest, factual reporting, built from the ground up. I cannot think of anyone of that class at any network today, nor a network that would hire one- because they would refuse to manipulate the facts or report editorial opinion as news. Watch the movie called "Truth" which documents why Dan Rather, one of the last true journalists that kept his professional ethics above political propaganda- retired early. You can't take hacks and make them true professionals by proclaiming a higher standard- they just don't have what it takes.

The "press core" has degraded and shamed itself in this election, peddling consistent propaganda and making itself into a political tool- or should I say fool- pushing an agenda instead of reporting facts. This continues today, as the wailing and whining of the left/loses continues to embarrass itself, using the media as it's bullhorn.

The restoration of integrity and journalistic professional standards would be welcome by any rational citizen- including Trump. Did he use the gullibility of the news media to win? Damned right he did. Was the opposition using the media to orchestrate an all-out attack on anything "Trump" to destroy him? Damn right they did. Just as Hillary was outsmarted by Trump.... so was the news media. Trump did not make that happen. They did it to themselves, by abandoning the principles and integrity of their own profession, by losing their own objectivity, gaming shaming their own profession, selling out their integrity for political motives.

The jerk who wrote this letter should have addressed TO the Press Core, not from it.

Absolutely dead on. Bullseye! Nooooooow that Trump is in they all of a sudden want to start fact checking. This entire article was complete bs. The deceit and hypocrisy was just oozing out of it.

The press corps doesn't represent Americans. It represents itself and the Democratic Party and liberalism. Who the hell do they think they're kidding?

The trouble is that a lot of the press deserves to be treated with disdain. For example, CNN really is only a news organization when it is reporting on the weather or an airplane crash. On political matters it has chosen to relegate itself to the level of just sheer propaganda. Respect is earned, not freely given just because you exist. CNN needs to clean house starting at the top and reform itself and then maybe it can earn back some self respect and the respect of others.

I think Trump's treatment of the press is a reflection of the public's disdain for the press. The press has made their bed, now they get to sleep in it.

    That is amusing.

I must say that the president elect is in for a long, hard road when he decides what is and is not a deserving news outlet.

Maybe ... He seems to enjoy the fight though. The press could lose this fight. He said he was going to fight for the American people every day, and the arrogant and corrupted WH press corps could very well just feed that perception.

I would love it if NONE of the major outlets were invited to the next one. It could be billed as "Local News Night". Let the foreign press and local domestic news ask the questions. Tell the stuffed shirts to take the night off.

    Gotta love this:
We’re going to work together. You have tried to divide us and use reporters’ deep competitive streaks to cause family fights. Those days are ending. We now recognize that the challenge of covering you requires that we cooperate and help one another whenever possible. So, when you shout down or ignore a reporter at a press conference who has said something you don’t like, you’re going to face a unified front. We’ll work together on stories when it makes sense, and make sure the world hears when our colleagues write stories of importance. We [the press corp] will, of course, still have disagreements, and even important debates, about ethics or taste or fair comment. But those debates will be ours to begin and end.

Very telling. 1) A largely left-leaning press corp admitting they'll work as team & 2) admitting they'll set the rules regarding ethics, taste & fair comment. Now, those admissions don't constitute some great revelation, it's obvious they've operate that way for years, but it's interesting for a couple of reasons; 1) it negates any notion the members of the press corp operate independently & 2) within the context of this letter, which is clearly issuing a "don't screw with us" warning to Trump, reveals they view ethical standards as malleable according to whatever they decide on any given day. (so much for journalistic ethical standards....forget that notion...well....if you haven't already).

Bottom line; if you needed ANOTHER reason to distrust the media now you have one.

Quite possible. But if there's anything the Left and Right might agree upon, it's that the normal rules, the abnormal rules and virtually any rules don't seem to apply when dealing with Trump. Perhaps that's why the media is in such a panic. They realize there's an honest outside chance Trump can literally have a very successful administration with or without them.

He doesn't need them. They need him. And..............he doesn't seem to give a s*** one way or the other.

The media is not in a panic.

If you really think that Trump doesn't give a s*** one way or the other, why does he spend so much time demonstrating how thin skinned he is?

    - - - Updated - - -

That was true when he was a candidate. He was a circus act, and the knuckle draggers ate it up.

Now he's got to deliver. He doesn't have a plan of any sort. He wings everything, and wastes a lot of his time on Twitstorms over movie actors and news organizations he doesn't like.

Much of what he says is false, but his audience is used to being lied to and actually seems to like it.

I disagree. I don't think it is Trump "enjoying the fight". I think it is a petulant, spoiled man who is used to using his braying persona to get his way, shouting down anyone and everyone who dares to disagree with him. I think this is born out of an inherent feeling of self loathing and a realization he is less intelligent than most.

All in my good opinion of course.

Not in a panic? Apparently Jim Acosta of CNN didn't get your memo - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=80MJTceR27k

But I will admit Trump is thin skinned. But instead of trying to appease the media with good seats in the press room, Trump is calling them out. He's using Twitter to nullify their power.

And people like Jim Acosta are feeling accosted. I love it!

What Trump and his worshippers conveniently forget is the fate of Richard Nixon. He too liked to bait and villify the press. The result, two obscure city desk reporters for the Washington Post brought down his presidency.

Trump would do well to remember the skeletons in his closet and the power of a free press as history could very well repeat itself.

    Regards,

    Jason Bourne

"Braying" ... Well if we're going to use animal noises to describe things, "squealing like a stuck pig" applies to the reaction of the MSM.

Obama only allowed certain reporters to cover him, and only if they stuck to pre-authorized questions. Nobody on the left complained about that. Trump is just responding in kind.

    Elections have consequences.

    Nonsense!

Trump isn't calling anyone out. The man is a practices serial liar and a con man. The press knows it and so does Trump

The only people that don't know it are folks like you (actually, I think you do know it, but derive some perverse pleasure in the fact that he gets away with lying to you)

You guys are a bunch of colluding liars, used to being able to lie your ass off about Republicans and have then grovel in response. Well guess what, we spotted Jeb! for exactly what he was, and gave you Trump instead! How do you like them apples!
Uhh, the Conference Room, that everyone else uses, which will allow for more media to attend you Snowflake! But yeah, threaten him, that seems to work great!
Your source is a liar. Where were these clowns on the peeing Russian Prostitutes, who by the way, apparently have more integrity that a Presstitute!
Just because they are in the Conference Room rather that the West Wing, is supportive of your melt-down. Between Press Conferences, and Youtube and Twitter, Trump will remain in constant contact with the American People, which is what bothers you... YOU want to control Trump's access to the American People! But thanks to Al Gore, and the internet thing he invented, you can't!

    Sad!

I say Trump should call the press corp on their bluff. Cut them out of the loop, let them grasp at straws. Truth is, Trump is a publicity lightning rod, and they all know it. They are going to want the "inside scoop" on his Presidency in order to obtain ratings. That's why they sent this threatening letter. They want him to reverse course. He has nothing to gain from them anyway, being left-wing shill hacks that they are, affiliated with the DNC as proven by Wikileaks.
