For me, I want a smart phone... but do not need the latest and greatest features. So the choice comes down to some android phone vs some apple phone. For me apple wins just because it is too annoying learn android in order to switch from my current apple.
Np! Also, what kind of Blackberry do you have? I used to have one for work, and I liked it a lot because it came with those little tactile keyboard buttons. They were really tiny, but I still liked them. There's really nothing quite like being able to touch, feel, and click the things you're pressing. The virtual keyboards are pretty cool too I guess, but they don't always do it for me especially when its on a smaller screen. Ah OK then, so then I guess your vote would be A, D, E, C, B -Meta
B, just B I use a Samsung Galaxy Note and have for a long time. I do everything on my phone... even filed two tax returns on TurboTax from my phone this year. Have a laptop and a tablet, but my phone can do anything they can do. Foolie's thread on Facebook and this one on phones confirms that many posters on PF are rather set in their ways and avoid branching out for fear of... something. Still havent figured out what, exactly.
Oh, so basically a modern flip phone, but a broader class which doesn't necessarily include the 'flip' part. Got it, thanks!
Lol, I thought for sure you'd pick the Apple iPhone. BTW, next year you should use H&R Block instead of TurboTax. I used to use TurboTax too, but things were so much more straightforward after I switched over...just sayin', lol....but I guess that's a vote for another day.
Naw, nothing "modern" about it. And, mine does "flip", and it has a really nice keyboard, too. But it's easy to carry. I don't need a "blingy" phone, and this thing is tough, dependable, and it's easy to use. Batteries last a long time. Text and speakerphone phone calls (I never put a cellphone next to my head!). I need nothing else in a phone. Computers are a different thing altogether. I have five computers of different kinds (I built two of them myself), and I have a tablet which I rarely use. Pawing around all the damn time on a 'smart' phone is something I'll never do... I've got many more important, interesting things to do to waste my time doing that....
I'm pretty sure those phone booths you see in America's airports are for immigrants and future Democrats from shithole countries who haven't gotten a free Obama phone yet. Are you aware that more people in America have been killed by smart phones than by guns ? They call it DWT, Driving While Texting.
I have an LG5 so the closest would probably be A, then B and finally C. Can't stand texting on flip phones although I had a cheap $20 trac fone that only cost me $20 for 3 months. Unfortunately I need apps.
B,B,B,B,B My only wish would be for an x86 CPU phone capable of running a Linux OS. I don't like Android or Apple.
Yeah, sure seems that way, and I had no idea! I honestly thought I'd be the only one who ranked a Flip Phone at the top. But it seems like a few posters are saying the reason they don't like Smart Phones is because of privacy concerns and the potential that the phones could be used to track their location...or because, like me they just don't need all the apps and extra features. Though that said, I actually own both a smart phone, and a flip phone. I use the flip phone for calls and texting, and I occasionally use the smart phone for its GPS, and picture taking. The camera on the Flip Phone is abysmal..., edit: And there's no GPS on the Flip Phone. My old Blackberry had a GPS, but it was so small I couldn't even read it. -Meta
I think some people have a hard time understanding that a smartphone is simply a computer, nothing more, nothing less. It can only do what you set it up to do. Apps track your location for various reasons... to show you relevant info, ie local weather, or provide directions to anyplace you wanna drive, or make it possible to Google 'Chinese restaurants near me' and no matter where you are, you'll get a list with menus and phone numbers. Fear of being tracked is irrational unless one is in hiding. My fav gps app is WAZE. It accepts user input, so you'll get updates on hazards ahead, including 'vehicle on side of road' or 'debris in road.' Yeah, it strikes me funny that people will sit in front of a monitor for hrs, but resist doing the same thing with a smartphone. Esp when their desktop IP address leads right to their front door. My personal experience... Ive never had any problem with my privacy being breached on my smartphone. However, a rogue mod on another forum had a vengeance against me and after threatening to do so for 2 years, reported me to my employer for using a company computer for political activism. Every keystroke I made was recorded for a month before I was called in to the bosses office to face the music. I knew immediately who blew that whistle. Outcome... mgmt agreed that I spent too much time on non work related sites, but they didnt consider my content campaigning for a particular candidate, so it wasnt against co rules. She told them my work was always done on time and she had no complaints, so they dropped it with my promise not to access the forums from my work computerh. Both she and I were relieved and it was over. Interesting aftermath... I started getting higher level assignments from upper mgmt who were obviously impressed I was talking politics during downtime, instead of facebook... like the rest of the staff. That very day, on the way home from work, I stopped at TMobile and bought my first Samsung Galaxy Note 2... and it's been love ever since. ♡♡♡
a crap-ton of weddings and funerals have had me escorting my elderly mother all over the southeast the past couple of years and my LG Vista's terrible GPS receiver/navigator had really become frustrating, so I bought a Moto Z2 Play a few months ago ($408.00) and haven't been lost yet. Takes great pics, too. Not pleased with the random advertisements, though. Never had any Apple stuff, but my younger brother and his husband, my middle brother, his wife, and their four kids are all Apple Snobs, and I must admit that I did suffer 'navigation envy' when we made our annual jaunt to South Carolina for Thanksgiving. No more, now that I have the Moto
Oh, your phone sounds just like mine. I guess you'd be an E vote then. And yeah, portability and battery life are probably the best features of those Flip Phones. Five computers!? Though I guess I shouldn't say anything. I've got four myself, plus a tablet now that I think of it. Though I only ever really use two of them. The other two and the tablet just kind of sit around... -Meta
I use two of the notebook computers purely as radios, believe it or not. I love classical music -- especially that of WETA in Washington D. C., and I've got one notebook in the living room, with a sub plus 2 externals, and an identical set up in another part of the house, in the den. These are ideal setups for listening to radio via the internet. Two of the desktops I built myself. One is fairly fast... the other is more of a 'gaming' computer, with an i7 proc and a GTX970 video card. For me, all I need a phone to do is take/make speakerphone calls, and, much more often, make and receive texts. I never, ever use "social media" at all, so I have little desire for a "smart" phone.... Cheers!
FYI, for anyone interested, ICE Cream and Vegetable votes have been posted: Ranked Vote: What are your Favorite Vegetables? Ranked Vote: What is the Best Flavor of Ice Cream?
I didn't say there was something wrong with them, I just don't like them. Coming from a unix background I find a Linux OS preferable to work with. All I use my phone for is calls, GPS, and occasional photos.
E A B D C and for the record, I would put apple at the bottom of any list. I'd rather have a cuneiform tablet with pac-man drawn on it in crayon than one of those pos's. can i 'downrank' apple?
Best way to reduce an option's chance of winning is to Rank every other option above it like you did.
Below are the votes I have recorded so far. BTW, a few of you guys were kind of vague in your posts. My choice would be A. I can see how others could choose a different option because of different priorities. I've read that for security Blackberry is the way to go. Someone who feels the need to pay to be dominated but considered cool would go with Apple. Samsung has great displays and is a good choice if you like bloat and to get the latest version of Android a year late. The flip-phone might be the choice of someone who obsesses on battery life.
