    And Trump allowed her the opportunity to underline the fact that she is way more patriotic than he is.
    And she gets up every day at 5 a.m. to train to earn her place in the US team and be the best player in the world for the U.S. Very patriotic of her.

    Those are patriotic actions. Not just symbolic ones.

    The only one who made it all about Trump was Trump. You said it: she protested before Trump was elected. Whether she is right or wrong, she has a right to protest. Exercising her right to protest is patriotic. Legitimizing dictators who torture and kill Americans is not.

    It's that simple.

    What is it about the Cold War you do not understand. We were flying around with nuclear weapons on board as were the Russians.

    I lost friends over North Vietnam. Some time google "Blytheville AFB B-52 memorial. We lost three aircrews over North Vietnam. Right, wrong or indifferent, I served.

    I forget what the special event was but President Trump was the FNG in the White House.

    The protocol of putting one's hand over the heart is something recent.

    The Greatest Generation and Baby Boomers remember when the protocol was just to stand during the playing of the National Anthem.

    Today any military veteran can render the military salute while not in uniform. Twenty years ago they couldn't. Took an act of Congress to change that.
