What we are not into is the concept that it's our responsibility to fix their problems.

That's the democrats line, and the black society is buying into it, while failing to realize that until they want to fix the issue, it won't be fixed.

Just the fact that you refer to Republicans or whites as "us" and blacks as "them" makes it pretty clear that you guys haven't learned what you need to figure out in order to expand your party.

You deliberately picked TANF because it is short term assistance and is the one form or "welfare" that blacks don't utilize as much of. You are deliberately cherry picking ONE aspect of welfare it is dishonest and I called you out on your attempt. Find me one credible source that says that blacks are not using welfare at a disproportionate rate. A higher percentage of blacks use food stamps and housing assistance both of which are welfare.

I am still waiting for you to refute one single thing I said. Do Democrats control municipal governments where blacks are concentrated? Do blacks use welfare at a higher rate than other groups? Did the War on Poverty improve blacks livelyhoods since it was implemented or did it make it worse? Go ahead and answer those questions with facts and without cherry picking like you did with TANF. And why do you keep talking about the Feds. The vast majority of welfare programs are run by states and cities. Food stamps are run by the states, housing is run by the states and cities and so are medical programs like Badger care.

You are being completely disingenious and flat out lying. I have NEVER brought up cost once. I am mad because we have an entire segment of the population that is missing out on the American dream. Everyone that reads this thread knows it. Did you bother to read the article from Kos where even they admit there is a problem with too many black people being on welfare? At least they admit. You are so beholden to you Democratic masters that you will ignore any and all information that might conflict with what they say.

No, TANF is actual welfare. That's the only program that was traditionally called "welfare" at all. It used to be the only program Republicans called "welfare" too. For example, the Republican "welfare reform" in the 1990s was only about TANF/AFDC (AFDC is the previous name for TANF). The thing where they use "welfare" just as a general term to describe "poverty amelioration" generally is new.

You seem to have bought into this silly notion that poverty amelioration actually somehow hurts poor people. As common as that idea is on talk radio and whatnot, it actually has zero basis in reality. But, if you don't believe me, lets see the studies supporting that claim.

    This right here.

This is why the right-wing will likely never successfully lure enough minority voters to make a difference.

This meme is so deeply ingrained in right-wing dogma that excising it would require an effort of Herculean magnitude.

Why? Because the idea that blacks only vote Democratic because the Democratic Party bribes them with welfare is merely a symptom of a larger problem. It is the tip of the GOP iceberg.

You can pass "Black friendly" policies you righties think will woo minority voters.
You can tell your corporate media to turn on the "The GOP loves minorities" propaganda all you want.
You can trot out the occasional black Republican at every rally.

But the complete disrespect and contempt the GOP seems to gleefully direct towards minorities will still be there.

The Republican Party used to be so progressive that it would put the modern Democratic Party to shame. It's roots were deeply entrenched in progressive values. Then the party was invaded by Southern Democrats, the dixiecrats and socially conservative evangelicals began their rise to political power. Now the GOP is nothing more than an regressive ghost of its former past.

“Should any political party attempt to abolish social security, unemployment insurance, and eliminate labor laws and farm programs, you would not hear of that party again in our political history. There is a tiny splinter group, of course, that believes you can do these things. Among them are…a few…Texas oil millionaires, and an occasional politician or business man from other areas. Their number is negligible and they are stupid,”

Well, they're still stupid but their numbers are profligate in the neo-Republican Party.

Was this said by one of those socialist Democrats? Nope.

It was said by none other than Republican President Dwight Eisenhower in 1954 to his brother.

Fast forward to today. The Republican Party today works hard to repeal the success of the past including the Civil Rights Act.

So the Republican Party can attempt to appeal to whatever group they want, it's not going to work. Actions speak louder than words and contempt is always edges their message.

Who said anything about bribing. Once again......your side completely misses the point. Your side has destroyed the black community. You can't possibly defend your actions since the 1960s so you try and throw out non sequitors about bribery and other nonsense. Address the point. Prove any of these points wrong. Black communities have gotten worse and fallen behind since the 1960s compared to to other groups. Democrats have controlled areas with large concentrations of blacks and have been running virtually all government functions since the 1960s. The War on poverty has had zero impact on poverty overall and poverty has INCREASED for blacks under Democratic governance.

You can keep trying to push the blame off but you will never be able to contest a single point. I have now argued these facts with four different people in the last two days and NONE of them have refuted a single thing I said. Instead they throw out the now laughable race card or accuse me of saying that people only vote for welfare benefits. Black voters vote Democrat because that is how their parents voted and that is how their colleagues vote just like most cowboys in Texas vote Republican. Democrats have constantly blamed Republicans for the ills of the black community even though blacks have been under Democratic governance for decades now. They also keep promising that they are the only ones that can fix their problems. They have in fact created entire generations that are dependent on assistance now. Milwaukee has a 50% unemployment rate for young blacks. That is ENTIRELY on the Democrats that run this city.

Liberals must be forced to defend what they have done to the black community. I won't hold my breath though as people like you just keep shoving off the blame onto scary white Republicans hiding behind trees at night.

Well what specific policies would attract them then? And since that means solving some "problem" for them of course it is going to be about "problems", so what exactly should the Republicans offer to blacks?

No it is very important to distinguish between what is and what isn't welfare and Social Security and Veterans benefits are not welfare, they are earned or paid for benefits. You didn't pay in, you didn't serve, you don't get.

It is YOUR side that is saying Republicans need to pass "black friendly" polices to woo minorities so please tell me some of these "Black friendly" policies that would do so.

    Keep pretending.
Keep treating them like children who don't understand their best interests; the same approach the GOP levels at women.

Just don't complain over the next 5-10 years as national elections continue to favor the Democratic Party.

Why is that important? It's just what you call something, that doesn't make a substantive difference.

Selling something is not the same as giving charity. There is a substantive difference. Which is why we don't call them the same thing.

You call unemployment insurance vacation????? I got news for you; in my state unemployment insurance pays me 1/8th of my 40 hour weekly salary. Try living off of that if you can; it's certainly a good incentive to look for work if you get laid off.

I mean, social security, veteran's benefits, food stamps and TANF are all paid for by taxes, they're all things we spend tax dollars on because we believe they are good for the country. I think the difference is that some on the right think TANF and food stamp recipients should be stigmatized and veterans and retirees should not, but that desire to shame poor people isn't a desire I find acceptable.

But, I'm not saying "you must call them both welfare" or "you shouldn't call either welfare." I'm saying I don't care what you call them. What I care about is the substantive policy behind them. If the costs outweigh the benefits, it is bad policy regardless of what you call it. If the benefits outweigh the costs, it is good policy regardless of what you call it.

Because if you want to talk about welfare talk about WELFARE not things that are NOT welfare.

Who is treating blacks like children? Who is opposing school choice and forcing kids to stay in horrible public schools run by Democrats. You still haven't responded to a SINGLE point. You can't defend your parties actions so you have to accuse the Republican party of racism........that is your ONLY play. Which party has maintained control over black communities since the 1960s and under which we have seen skyrocketing unemployment, higher crime rates and imprisonment and increase out of wedlock births. You liberals have quite a bit of explaining to do but as usual you will continue to ignore it.

The salaries of government workers are paid for by taxes are you saying they are collecting welfare?

    It was perfectly clear English.

You have to serve in the (*)(*)(*)(*)ing military to get military benefits. For (*)(*)(*)(*) sake they are called military benefits and only servicemen and their families can receive them. I challenge you to go apply for military benefits and see ify ou can get them. You don't get social security if you don't work. Although SS has been warped lately and they are extending benefits beyond what it was meant to be you still need to have at paid at least some of it in. To get actual "welfare" as most people think of it you only have to show that you are making below a certain amount of money............thats it. You don't even need to prove citizenship in some states like CA. If you can't see the difference between someone collecting an EBT stipend and getting rental assistance versus someone who served 4 years in the military then there is no hope for you at all.

You aren't following at all. "Welfare" used to mean something specific- the program that is today called TANF, which used to be called AFDC, which before that was called "welfare." Today, Republicans use it in a way that doesn't really seem to have any real meaning. Sometimes you guys include social security when it is convenient to inflate numbers, sometimes you don't when including it would undermine your ability to shame "welfare" recipients... But the whole thing doesn't matter. It doesn't matter what you call "welfare" and what you do not. What matters is which policies work and which do not.

    - - - Updated - - -

So it sounds like you're just confirming what I said, right? You think social security and veteran's benefits aren't "welfare" because you don't want to shame veterans and retirees, but benefits the poor get are "welfare" because you enjoy shaming the poor. Right?

Because the majority of benefits were initially just handed to people in the form of cash/checks. Immediately it was discovered *gasp* that people would use that money for things other than rent and food. So they then switched to paying the landlord directly and giving people food stamps which people abused which lead to EBT cards. All it is different forms of payment bypassing the recipient in some cases and going directly to the provider to limit abuse. My state just recently started putting photos on the EBT cards to prevent people from selling them. They are all still receiving welfare and its counted as welfare.

Then you conflate government salaries with welfare. While I do believe that many government workers are lazy and sit and play solitair on their computers I have to believe that they have to perform to at least a minimum standard. If they don't do any work they will be fired (hopefully) and they no longer receive any paychecks. If you are on welfare and you don't work then you still keep getting rental assistance and food stamps etc.

    - - - Updated - - -

Tell me one person that had to "work" for their rental assistance or EBT cards? Did they have to serve four years in the military to receive their benefits? Your posts are becoming increasingly desperate and illogical and everyone that is reading them is seeing it.

So you're just confirming what I said? That it is important to you to distinguish between what you consider "welfare" and what you don't because you enjoy shaming poor people, and using the word "welfare" as an insult is one of the ways you like to do that. Right? Well, that isn't important to me. In fact, that strikes me as an awfully demented thing to be fixating on.

WTF are you talking about? No, I never said anything remotely like that... I have consistently said that I don't care what you do and don't want to call welfare. It doesn't matter what you call welfare and what you don't.

I am continuing Bluesguys question. You claim that military benefits are welfare but then you make a distinction from people receiving paychecks for working for the government. There is NO distinction. Either Obama is on welfare or military benefits are distinctly different from welfare as we know it. You can call them entitlements if you want as people are "entitled" to them if they either served or in the case of SS worked. But they are not welfare as deemed by most people including government statistics which seperate TANF from rental assistance and from military benefits etc.
