No doubt there are those who want to use voter ID as a backdoor poll tax, but even the link in your link states Alabama offers free IDs. While the statistics about driver licence offices closing is, indeed, an eyebrow raiser, I'm guessing it's more about the economics of each of those counties rather than racial. If it isn't, this is an excellent case to push up through the Federal court system if not SCOTUS.
