I wonder if they knew he was going to be there... it's a rather important scalp for ISIS, a rare opportunity You'd hope it was an informant and not the fact he wasn't walking around being saluted... certainly then he was asking for it.

Looks like a huge military mistake, not the first the Russians did in Syria.

US personnel in Syria was and are pretty safe, if not mistaken. Could someone show a loss comparison? Thanks in advance.

Russian body count rises, combined with Donbass ones, this won't look good on Putin and the 2018 election is near.

idk, what there's for a loss comparison, the russkies keep that under tight wraps IMO, I'm surprised that this general would be that"visible" to getting killed. Usually they're well insulated and the "grunts" do all the dirty work.

Of course, when you think you're safe behind the lines around supposed allied Afghan soldiers, you don't expect to be in danger of being shot by them.

Strange, my link says three (3) Russian officers were killed.

Yesterday three high ranking Russian officers were killed in an "ISIS attack" in eastern-Syria.

A general would fit into officers ranks, NCOs are usually lieutenant rank and below. SOF is usually fairly accurate, albeit soaked in"blood" by some posters here!

Aren't you getting worried, upset with goosebumps?
These are Russian officers!! The question is, WHO killed them? Mossad, CIA, ISIS or the Canadians? Are the Canadians actually part of the coalition of the willing still?

As in Afghanistan as well as in Syria, I think it's safe to presume there are jihadists within the ranks of the respective militaries? They're not stupid, not by a long chalk. Our mistake is believing that they are. :wall:

Good to hear then, the average Russian Troll has been recently stating that ISIS is being backed or even created by the US, Your post pushed the agenda that "an informant" was the cause of this.

The only informants that Russians have been calling out have been Americans that "work with ISIS". So without clarification, your posts easily looks like many other Russian posters saying it is the US fault

The satellite images from the city controlled by ISIS militants showed some military hardware belonging to the US Special Forces in the north of the city of Deir ez-Zor. US troops may be acting as advisors for the Daesh militants and they are absolutely safe in areas controlled by terrorists, according to the Russian Defense Ministry. The Russian general was killed by the US-backed militants armed with American weapons.

No, an NCO is an enlisted man, not an officer.

Soooo, they are russian officers!?! Why would I get goosebumps? Maybe the general should've had better protection, he is/was a "high value target" in a heavy conflict zone.
Soviet/russian losses are rather expendable, not much has changed since WW2. Anyone could have killed this general...if it was Canadian sniper, they some of the deadliest from afar, they covered lotsa US servicemen's butt in astan.
If it was CIA, Mossad, well never know. He got a little to close to the action and got one, end of story.

I think ISIS can have informants without having to drag the US into it

O.k., I didn't express myself clearly enough. I meant to ask, aren't you worried because of any retaliation?
It is so easy to "accidentally" kill one another.

500 million dollars on its way to fund the next war against Syria

The Süddeustche Zeitung has shed light on the fact that arms are being transferred from the headquarters of the US Air Forces in Europe, based in Ramstein (Germany) and are making their way to the Syrian “rebels”.

Yes. Three Russian officers were killed. War is war. Russian generals are often on the front line.
