Ruth Bader Ginsburg unable to attend February speaking event in NYC, organizers say

All politics pushed aside -- and I know that to do THAT, we'd all need a Caterpillar D11 bulldozer, it is to be hoped that the very best medical services will be brought to her aid so that she can find a peaceful, much more relaxed life in contented retirement.

No one should be bullying her into remaining in a super high-stress position that may be harming her ability to recover from cancer and/or pneumonia. And, no one should be bullying her into retiring if she genuinely feels that she will remain as a Supreme Court Justice, which is her Constitutional right, all other factors notwithstanding.

At the age of 85, surely none of us should have to be indentured servants to anyone's frantic efforts at maintaining political control, or to some damned "job".... I'm nowhere near being as old as Ginsburg is, but as someone who retired just a few years ago I can tell you -- work should be something you do to the very best of your ability UNTIL YOU NO LONGER HAVE TO... and not one minute longer....

 

Oh my...such a painful way to go...so sorry to hear....

Indeed, when pneumonia kills a person, they literally (and slowly) drown in fluids in their lungs. They put 'pipes' down into your lungs to try to keep the fluid level down, but eventually all the vital systems that a body needs to have functioning stop. The person then drowns, and dies.

If you've ever seen images of real people who have died by drowning, you can imagine what a horrible thing suffocation is....

Why would anybody want her to be subjected to THAT?!

This is just one example of her speaking ill of the Constitution. There are others as well.

Sorry, no; that's just empty rationalization on your part. Sure, believing in following original intent can still be defined as "interpretation", but Thomas understands the necessity of following the Constitution as written, using the intent of the Founders to "interpret" the meaning of the words, to maintain and preserve the Constitution's protections of our freedoms and liberties.

RBG wants to be able to twist and distort the meaning to fit her agenda, and openly expresses her frustration that she can only go so far with that.

I don't see the Constitution as "a holy document" but it IS the law of the land, and needs to be followed. For those, like you, who don't like its ability to block your agendas, it's easier to rationalize and dismiss the Constitution if you can think of it as a "living document" that can be twisted and warped to your convenience; instead of established law that cannot be changed without a properly defined process.

 

I agree with every single word she said. She has never shown contempt for the constitution. I am glad we established that.
Look at all those other countries that created modern documents to meet the needs of a modern nation. They are not stuck in the 1700's.

Every justice interprets the constitution. The founders were great men but flawed men. The constitution needs to be interpreted for a modern society...not one of ink quills and horse buggys.

She is a fantastic judge and a great servant of those nation

If the Constitution is supposedly not up "to the needs of a modern nation" then by its own structure and requirements must be amended or replaced through a Constitutional convention. It can NOT be ignored nor "interpreted"; not legitimately. That you don't comprehend that just illustrates how fatally flawed your views truly are.

She is unfit to serve and has violated her oaths to the Constitution. I don't wish her ill health, but the sooner she is gone from the bench the better.

What we have established is that you are utterly wrong in that she has never held the constitution in contempt. Every single justice on the court interprets the constitution. Every single one. You are simply part of a fringe extremist group that virtually no legal scholar subscribes to. Even Thomas does not believe that. It is so far out there it is easily dismissed . Actually Scalia wasn't that much younger then Ginsberg when he started having health issues and dying. They are about the same age.
