I love how the right wing has started to downplay, and even try to normalize what happened on the 6th.

If you cant defend it, you minimize it........

Just because the coup failed, its still a coup.

    F’n ridiculous.

Once again, preventing Biden's certification as president would've done nothing to make Donald Trump president for another term.

I'm against police forces having armored vehicles. I've started threads about this subject such as mine about "more horses, fewer tanks (armored vehicles) " in regards to law enforcement.

Who do you consider as "the right wing" though? I can't tell anymore because labels are so misused by everyone, including me at times regrettably.

If they are merely Trump's voters, then I would offer that those who describe themselves in the modern context as "liberals" and "left wing" and "Democrat" have been normalizing political violence and intolerance quite a lot prior to January 6th. I even find this to be the case in survey data analysis. It's not even a secret in academic analysis of current events; the modern-day "left" has become awful toward out-groups and perceived out-group threats.

I doubt all of those in the mob were completely ignorant of the U.S. Constitution.

Actually IIRC, "ALL" elected officials are never there. I'm pretty sure they still use the "designated survivor" rule.

Because it is. That’s how terrorism works. Terrorists want the state to overreact and spend more money on the problem then it actually is. You mention guns. Sure yeah whatever (it’s not whatever they’re actually pretty serious). But the money is the real thing. How expensive is all this stuff? That’s the real goal.

OP nailed it. Terrorisms whole point is to overreaction. And the government is overreacting. The chances of more violence increase dramatically as a result.

Having a debate is much much different that what happened by the right on Jan 6th

Can you give me examples of what you consider "normalizing violence" by the left ?

By that logic, there will be no violence.
Since the Trumpsters claim to be patriots they won't attempt more insurrection especially given the array of weapons deployed.

It seems terribly extreme and the media is loving it from what I've seen.

I've said this before, this is the first time that congresspeople have seen first hand what a mob of people is capable of, this crap has been happening to their constituents for months and months and they dismissed the seriousness of "mostly peaceful" gatherings of like minded people, and didn't give a dam, now they get a taste of what its really like and they care and are going over the top in their response, the same clowns that were critical of national guard being deployed, if not flatly refusing them, how quickly attitudes change eh?

I know precisely nothing about military and police tactics, but I have been thinking the same thing.

It seems the left are willing to mow people down with machine guns for their super spreader event.

If you thought you needed that kind of hardware and man power, why not just do it on TV in the oval office?

How do you reach that conclusion ? Or are you just trying to insult and demonize "the left" ?

Understand that you are in a poor position to do this in light of the recent Insurrection by Trump supporters.

sounds underwhelming in the face of the current clear and present dangers these insurgents have promised, they shouldn't even be free.

I don't take anything lightly just so you know, or try to demonize any particular group, I just find the Hypocrisy alarming. I have been all for the National Guard to move in and stop all this nonsense for months now. Unlike some, I recognize that the alt left and alt right anarchist terrorists are exactly the same. The biggest failure of both parties, especially POTUS, is to allow extremist groups from both sides to continue to control our cities and dictate our narratives. When groups like Antifa and Proud Boys dominate the news cycle, they are the only ones winning. Still, I find it odd that some on the left, who thought using tear gas was a war crime, have no problem with (assumingly) deploying this kind fire power.
