No, they brag about having sane gun laws.

Canadians do not have a constitutional right to own guns. But they do have legal rights under license.

Any non felon adult can own a gun. You have to have to obtain a license. You can't walk into a gun shop and walk out with a gun the same day. there are no "gun shows". Concealed Carry is incredibly hard to obtain. Open carry gets you arrested.

Guns in homes need to be secured (gun safe or trigger locks or other alternatives).

Parliament is actually streamlining some of the licensing regulations and cutting some of the red tape.
    http://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/firearms-bill-amendments-to-cut-red-tape-unveiled-in-the-house-1.2789996

    The legislation introduced Tuesday will:
■Change the licensing system to merge possession-only licences and possession and acquisition licences, giving new rights to firearms owners.
■Implement a six-month grace period for individuals to renew their firearms licence without fear of becoming a "paper criminal."
■Make classroom participation in firearms safety training mandatory for anyone who wants to possess and acquire a firearm.
■Make authorization to transport restricted firearms a condition of a restricted firearms licence.

    Have you no mercy? ;-)

If you use 21st century criteria to evaluate Mohammed and branding him evil, might want to read the bible some times, replete with stonings, a list of capital crimes as long as both your arms, slavery, pedophilia, death to apostates, robbery, and rape isn't even a crime.

I guess before Jesus, God was evil too. He must have preformed a miracle on himself.

I would agree that evil exists in the world, but my definition of evil does not include any religion's dogma and most certainly no devil.

Your clairvoyant powers are centered around people's health? No wonder you are a doctor.
You must be a helluva diagnostician. good on you.

    cheers

Obama is merely continuing in the long tradition of selling, leaving, donating AMERICAN MADE weaponry around the world. America is and has been for decades the largest arms supplier on the planet.

But feel free to blame Obama for the sins of the military industrial complex. I find it hilarious that you guys actually think he's in charge to the extent he can completely disrupt that heavily fortified status quo.

    You were told wrong.

The Canadian Muslim Community have almost universally denounced Islamism.
The muslim community is responsible for identifying the radicalized ones within their mosques.
There are many muslims working for our counter terrorism agencies.

The vast majority of Canadian muslims share our fundamental values. Tolerance of others being one, peaceful co-existence for another, and total rejection of violence against the innocent. (hell even our muslim terrorists are only going after the military and their political masters).

    You can all breath now.

They are Canadian. Are you surprised there are whacko muslims here, side by side with whacko Chinese, hindi, white Christians, brown Christians, black Christians and even multiracial atheists?

You should know that our population has the highest foreign born % of all the g-8 at roughly 21%. Muslims account for 3.2% of the population, of which about 65% are foreign born (that's down from 80% in the previous census).

It has always been the case in Canada that first generation immigrants bring their cultural baggage with them, and tend to remain in ethnic communities (at least in urban areas) as they try to adapt to our culture and their new environment. it is the second generation that experiences the most severe culture clash, as they must reconcile their parents attitudes and values with those they learn from their schooling/socializing/media exposures. about 45% of second generation immigrants are in mixed cultural marriages/relationships and by the third generation its up to 50%. Sooner or later Canadian values prevail (usually sooner).

Seems you have trouble understanding Islamic values. They are not accurately represented by the Islamists, any more than Christians are represented by KKK members.

Very comprehensive answer, as for you say, I can infer that Canada is prepared to face a terror threat [or more terror threats as well] without a great effort and / or concern.

Probably [and this is the result of the evolution of Italian intelligence during Cold War] Canada would improved its structures and procedures to detect and prevent the formation of organized terror groups on its territory.

Anyway, so far [this is what I can get from public information issued by European intelligences] these Islamists are not showing great capabilities of infiltration, I mean stable infiltration, out of Muslim environments. This fact facilitates the activity of detection, containment and contrast of similar organizations, since the period of their formation, by homeland security.

Communists terrorism was more difficult to contrast since it found a fertile background in the core of Italian low classes: workers in the firms. They were absolutely disguised and invisible among workers ...

Islam has a set of unchangeable laws, one last very final prophet, a God that does not speak to the heart; “all this machine does is swim and eat and make little sharks, and that's all.”

    Swim:

"[4.101] And when you journey in the earth, there is no blame on you if you shorten the prayer, if you fear that those who disbelieve will cause you distress, surely the unbelievers are your open enemy."

    Eat:

    “Lands owned by society

This kind of lands is not salable. Even the State has no right to sell them. Lands developed and tilled by human hands and those which come under Muslim control consequent on jihad are considered to be the property of the Muslim society and none can purchase or sell even one metre thereof.“
    http://www.al-islam.org/philosophyofislam/17.htm

    Make little sharks:

"The blood of a Muslim who confesses that none has the right to be worshipped but Allah and that I am His Apostle, cannot be shed except in three cases: In Qisas for murder, a married person who commits illegal sexual intercourse and the one who reverts from Islam (apostate) and leaves the Muslims."

"(3) Narrated Abu Said Al-Khudri: We got female captives in the war booty and we used to do coitus interruptus with them. So we asked Allah's Apostle about it and he said, "Do you really do that?" repeating the question thrice, "There is no soul that is destined to exist but will come into existence, till the Day of Resurrection." (Book #62, Hadith #137)"

    (3) Narrated 'Urwa on the authority of 'Aisha: On the days of Mina, (11th, 12th, and 13th of Dhul-Hijjah) Abu Bakr came to her while two young girls were beating the tambourine and the Prophet was lying covered with his clothes. Abu Bakr scolded them and the Prophet uncovered his face and said to Abu Bakr, "Leave them, for these days are the days of 'Id and the days of Mina." 'Aisha further said, "Once the Prophet was screening me and I was watching the display of black slaves in the Mosque and ('Umar) scolded them. The Prophet said, 'Leave them. O Bani Arfida! (carry on), you are safe (protected)'." (Book #15, Hadith #103)

John 8:44 “You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it.”

“Mat 7:15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.
Mat 7:16 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?
Mat 7:17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.
Mat 7:18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.
Mat 7:19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
Mat 7:20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them. “

I am not sorry, I will not give a false Prophet a pass because he was before or after Jesus; there will be no pass for not meeting moral criteria due to the times and days of Id...

And yet... despite the facts being released... our Community Organizer in Chief cannot bring himself to utter the words "Islamic Terrorist" as the culprit(s). According to his administrations... it's just another act of War Memorial Place violence.

    The man has no balls.

One doesnt have to be partisan to see that the Canadian PM Harper is a 'uniter' and has true leadership skills as he spoke today in the parliament.

The 'president pretend' of the US has no leadership or mgmt skills but only those skills acquired from the Alinsky playbook.

Hopefully, the US voters who were suckered in by him thru messianic worship hope & change are waking up.......altho those blinded by an ideology will never.....btw, havnt heard of anybody swooning lately when he speaks!

If I understand correctly Christianity has a set of unchangeable laws, many of which are completely ignored by Christians. the same can be said for just about every religion.

Yes, to some mo is the last prophet. But don't tell the shia that.

You mean a god that doesn't speak to your heart, don't you? some hundreds of millions of Muslims would disagree with you. And considering that Yaweh, Jehovah and Allah are all the same god, does that mean Jehovah doesn't speak to yours? Of course, none of them speak to my heart. I reject all gods equally.

How exactly do you know that Mo is a false prophet?

music and dancing is hardly a case of morality.

    Actually, the Quran APPROVES music!

    039.075
And thou wilt see the angels surrounding the Throne (Divine) on all sides, singing Glory and Praise to their Lord. The Decision between them (at Judgment) will be in (perfect) justice, and the cry (on all sides) will be, "Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds!"

Perhaps you can explain how angels can sing in Allah's presence if he prohibits it?

You must realize that you are taking one sects interpretation of scripture as representative of the entire religions beliefs. this is fallacious in the extreme.

For instance, to apply your logic to Christianity, blood transfusions are prohibited because JW's believe this interpretation. See how stupid that is?.

Great idea. I like that idea. Why give one's children a book that says to kill them if they turn out to be gay.

    Correct, they are all evil.
So if Mohammad is not a role model for the 21st century, then he just clearly made up (invented) the Qur'an, because the Qur'an says he's the best role model for all time. I guess "Allah" wasn't smart enough to understand that rape, pedophilia, etc. would be immoral in the future.....

Mohammad taught/lived totalitarianism, so The Islamic State is just following his lead. Mohammad and his invisible friend weren't smart enough to understand democracy, so they aren't even as smart as my 9 year-old nephew. Obviously Muslims need to find a new belief system.

All you have to do to not get a post deleted, but to get the same effect you desire, is to quote the horrific parts of Islamic texts or Bible. Both are so horrendous that quoting those makes their followers look like (well, arguably) ignorant fools. Imagine a Christian, for example, trying to defend the part where Moses advises raping captive virgins (Jesus approved of Moses, so Jesus was insane too.)

I understand your concerns and bare with me as I write this.

As you and I are now aware on Monday a French Quebecer who converted to Islam ran his car at two Canadian soldiers in an attempt to kill them. He managed to kill one and the police shot him dead as he emerged from his car with a knife.

He had converted to radical Islam and the Canadian government had confiscated his passport.

Then yesterday we now see another Canadian had converted to radical Islam and he too had his passport taken away.

What we now know is he proceeded to take a either a hunting rifle (thank God not a machine gun) or what actually looks like a standard service revolver with an extended barrel and shoot in cold blood to death a soldier in ceremonial attire standing guard at the Unknown Dead Soldier War Memorial. Of course that soldier's rifle was empty and only a show piece.

The soldier died despite attempts to revive him at the scene. As a few bystandards and police and emergency personnel rushed to aid him the assailant got into an unlicensed older Toyota Corolla and drove it to the gates of Parliament.

He then got out and passed inches away from the Labour Minister of Alberta and that Minister's Executive Assistant.

He did not shoot that Minister and kept proceeding into the House of Commons running passed two unarmed uniformed guards. At that point RCMP running from behind came into the large front hallway and were joined inside by armed civilian security guards as the assailant covering his face with a scarf and dressed in blue and black ran down the hall. At one point he passed two rooms. One was full of Members of Parliament of the Opposition party. The other was full of Members of Parliament from the ruling party and were being addressed by the Prime Minister. It is a stroke of luck the armed intruder did not kill many politicians from either party or the Prime Minister or senior cabinet Ministers but instead ran into an alcove or a dead end situated next door to the Sargeant At Arm's office. The Sargeant of Arms for you Americans is the man in charge of the 3,000 armed civilian guards of Parliament and also wears a special uniform and parades into the House of Commons everyday with a sceptre and sits in a Chair.

Tjhe Sargeat At Arms Kevin Vickers, was a 58 year old retired Royal Canadian Mounted Police Officer rising from police constable to the upper echelons before retiring as a Senior Superintendent to this position.

As the commotion arose outside, he took his service revolver out of his locked box, and entered the hallway as the assailant stood outside his office. He then hit the ground on his stomach shooting 3 times. It is believed he shot the person dead.

What we also know from a Toronto Globe and Mail tape is that in addition to his three shots, the assailant appeared to have shot off his rifle and there was a shot gun blast from one of the guards proceeded by about 30 rounds of automatic fire. One of the bullets ricocheted into the leg of a security guard and there is another miracle because many other security could have died from ricocheted bullets off the marble floors and strong pillars.

It is standard procedure to aim for the chest then if that is ascertained as a shot that penetrated to then go for the head.

Probably the shot gun was aimed at his head once he was down.

In any event the Parliament and city went into counter-terrorist protocol. The Parliament and surrounding areas of the city were carefully quarantinned bu hundreds of RCMP and city of Ottawa police as well Otario Provincial Police armoured trucks were seen in the operations.

Police both uniformed and uniformed with police vests covered the city and reports came in they were looking for a second or perhaps third assailant. Today we were told this man acted alone.

The foreign embassies and all police stations and schools in Ottawa were closed as was the down town corps.

Interestingly the President of the United States made an announcement in the afternoon expressing his concern and the Prime Minister then addresed the country in the evening.

This morning there was a standing ovation in Parliament for the Sargeant at Arms and the investigation continues.

The assailant's mother is a civil servant and his father was a soldier who fought in Libya apparently. The assailant had a criminal record for possession fo marijhuana and had plea bargained an armed robbery down to a $100 fine.

Had this individual been better organized he could have killed the PM and many others.

Interestingly as well US intelligence provided the first identification of the individual known to them as an ISIS supporter showing intelligence protocol between the US and Canada works quickly and effectively.

Across the nation NORAD was put on top alert and airports, subways, provincial and municipal parliaments were all provided with extra security.

Borders with the US went on red alert and the US immediately added extra security to the War Memorial in Washington.

Apparently someone last night was arrested scaling the White House fence and today as the Prime Minister briefly attended the War Memorial to lay a wreath where the soldier was killed a person was arrested who is believed to be mentally ill and homeless and tried to scale a barricade.

Things are tense of course. Had this been more organized much worse could have happened. It one sense it is our 9-11 in that its the first very real terror attack we have experienced. We have had others on a very limited scale but this one will change the face of Canadian government and its accessability to the public.

What is making people convert to radical Islam at this point is hard to say. In Britain we see not just Muslim men being radicalized but many Christian women and men.

Whether they are inspired by ISIS but not directly connected to them, or are in touch with them and instigated into doing these things is not known at this time.

Of course the question in a democracy is it enough to arrest someone simply because they express radical Islamic views or doesone need more proof? Some are of course reacting to yesterday and asking why did we not arrest these two earlier. The problem is we had no legal grounds.

To be able to arrest someone requires more thorough surveillance to find evidence of an imminent threat. Neither individual had engaged in activities associated with an imminent threat.

In the days to come some will ask for more state powers to engage in surveillance, wire-tapping, inter-net penetration, etc.

The concern to any democracy of course is when acts of terror or violence happen there is blow back with people asking for the state to get more police powers. The problem with that though is those police powers if extended may forever erode democratic freedoms and rights we once had.

I worry yes about terrorism but I also worry about an unreasonable knee jerk reaction to it as well. We have to stay calm and balance the needs of safety and protection of the state with essential individual rights required in a democratic state.

This balancing act is not easy and now Canada will be faced for example with what the US was after 9-11 and say Britain with the IRA and Israel since 1949 have had to deal with or say Italy with its Red Brigades, Germany with its Beider-Manhoof gang, the Spanish and their Basques, France with radical Muslims, Holland, Austria. Russia with Chechnya, China with its Muslim break away regions and so on.

Innocent Muslims who came to Canada to get away from terror and extremism will of course feel the blow back which in turn could cause some of their children to radicalize in reaction to feeling hated.

Its interesting to note however that so far these were converted Canadians not born in Muslim countries.

Again I think there is a direct tie in to radical Islam and ISIS but its essential we not lose perspective of the fact that radical Islamic beliefs and identifying and containing such extremist believers has to be done carefully. To preserve our democracies we have to find a way not to start smeering and targetting innocent Muslims.

Its not an easy task. People are not in the mood for being patient. We are going to see harsh reactions in days to come against visible Muslims in Canada.

I think the days of Canada being a welcoming country full of unlimited tolerance is quickly going to come to an end.

The actual liberalization of Canada to other cultures transpired about 10 years after the holocaust when the full extent of our Primer Minister King's anti-semitism during WW2 and his sending Jews back to their deaths in Germany caused a guilt back-lash. Suddenly we went from wanting to take in only white Christians, to literally anyone to no white Christians at all. Interestingly for we Jews in Canada, not much changed. We went from being described by McKenzie King the PM in WW2 as vermin to being defined as privileged white people when the backlash saw us liberalize immigration policies.

Interestingly when provinces and the federal government began implementing equity balancing laws, we Jews were told we were privileged white people when they came up with quotas for hiring people in government.

For us it was ironic. No matter who is considered a minority, we Jews somehow always found ourselves being scorned by the policies of the day. This is why we created our own nation as a final refuge for those without equality and those of us in Canada made it without any assistance pretty much like the poor white minorities if I may use that word, Ukrainians, Irish, Dukhabors, Polish, East Europeans, etc.

The multi-cultural history in Canada is now going to be tested. Unlike the US where you are an American first, then whatever else you are second, in Canada we were whatever we were first, then there was a hyphen followed by Canadian.

I never agreed with that. I was never a Jewish Canadian. I am a Canadian, period. My allegiance is to Canada. If it was to Israel then I would be Israeli. I do not belief in dual citizenship. I choose not to be Israeli. I was fortunate to be born in Canada, a great country and one that provides me with freedoms and rights and dignity and where I do not have to fear the police.

I support the existence of Israel and the right of Jews to express their ethnicity in a state collective, but me individually embrace the gift of being born in Canada the way you Americans do American citizenship no matter what your ethnicity and culture is.

In the days to come we all will be tested on both sides of the border and we will stick together and with our allies deal with these terrorists one way or the other.

As a Canadian we appreciated Obama mentioning us yesterday and the Pittsburgh Penquins and Anaheim Ducks calling for a moment's silence in their hockey games and American citizens singing our anthem in Pittsburgh.

We Canadians were there for New Yorkers when 9-11 hit and that damn flooding hit in New Orleans and we are then for forest fires, hydro outages, etc. in the US and vice versa. The US we know is our friend and when this idiocy happens will be with us. Its good to have friends. On a very basic level the US and Canada are close that way in a genuine way. I like that.

oh, if he did just a little planning, he could have killed your PM and many other Ministers. it would have been Canada's worse tragedy.

So god didn't create Satan? He didn't know that Satan would challenge him?
He visits calamity down on whole groups for sinning murdering the innocent alongside the guilty.

Your read of history is incredibly distorted. There were many combatants against "evil" prior to Jesus. Nothing like a wholly blinkered Christian interpretation of what was going on in the rest of the world during the events portrayed in their bible.

Of course, this limited perspective ensures that many obvious questions need not be addressed by the faithful.

But why dont' you start a new thread about good and evil and how the advent of Jesus changed things.

Muslims and Christians are arguably intellectual cowards for not improving their awful texts....if they care about what texts they pass along to their children, that is. Maybe they don't care for their kids, I don't know.
