Why does it matter? Did they get a discount? It’s not like there’s no other oil, this was just more on the market.

As talking points, those are pretty bad. You should hope that MSNBC can give you better lines than that. This is oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, not oil shipped overseas based on some sort of pre-existing contract. Someone in the government deliberately did this.

    Based on what study?
Once again you are trying to blame the president for not being authoritarian? It's called the free market for a reason. Biden released it for public bid, someone bought it and resold it to the highest bidder.
You think subsidizing drilling and permanently draining our resources would have had a different result?

Lol...would you say it's as much as the amount of disingenuous bullshit trotted out by the right on this issue?
Between all the lies about the oil and all the hypocrisy about nepotism, nobody gives a **** anymore.

I require people to show a post , 1 single post, where they changed their mind based of a factual source provided before wasting my time doing so.

Biden releasing oil from the SPR is stupid.

Blaming Biden for what the people who bought the oil eventually did is stupid.

Blame Biden for releasing the oil and blame the companies that bought it for shipping it overseas to China. If you're mad that the oil can be shipped overseas in the first place, blame the free market system that allows it. I'm of the opinion that not even one drop of American oil should ever leave our shores for any reason, ever, but the fact that it does is not something I can blame on Joe Biden, or even Donald Trump.

See how that works? It makes much more sense when you blame everyone responsible instead of narrowly trying to blame everything on one person because politics.

Prices were not "skyrocketing" for an entire year before Ukraine. The "skyrocketing" happened after the invasion and the sanctions. Where I live, gas had been between $2.50 and $3.50 for years, fluctuating as it normally does(which also means it was even cheaper elsewhere since the state I live in, Pennsylvania, has one of the highest gas taxes in the nation).

OVERNIGHT, after the invasion, it jumped to $4.50.

    That's "skyrocketing".

They arnt talking points, this is now the third thread iv had to repeat this fact. It's a free market, and you guys are demanding Biden take charge of it like some sort of authoritarian?
The only control he had was to allow open bidding or closed...which would drive all sorts of conspiracy theories if it was closed.

Second do you think that if we subsidized oil companies to drill more the result would be different? It would not end up in the hands of the highest bidder?
How about asking why would China pay more for our gas if apparently they are getting it for pennies from Russia? Maybe because that's a myth as well and sanctions are working.

If it's any consolation...because you conservatives are demanding authoritarian actions maybe if we do subsidize big oil for drilling at least this way the contract would be for restocking the reserves to insure it stays within our borders.

Proof of what? The gas prices in the area I live in?

No, I did not keep a detailed historical record of local gas prices for no reason.

How many threads are needed on this before team red realizes the oil reserves are sold to private companies and Biden has no control over where it goes? This has been the case with every oil release in history and has been explained numerous times here and y’all still don’t seem to grasp it

Not even remotely true. The US government can absolutely control who private companies are allowed to sell to. I worked for a international sales and shipping team and we had a list of countries we couldnt sell to. Why are you makings things like this up?

Explain to me what part of the free market is government owned oil? It's oil set aside for national emergencies, that is part of the free market? Which bastion of the free market sold the oil to a Chinese company? The Department of Energy?

    Desperation

Eventually they will tire of it because they can't hide the absolute shitshow of the Biden administration.

Why would the department of energy bid for the oil?
Look at who won the bid.

The president personally handles all of these transactions of course and even personally delivers them on his bicycle!

The U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Office of Fossil Energy and Carbon Management (FECM) handles all sales

    This is the sale notice
    https://www.energy.gov/articles/doe...ce-sale-crude-oil-strategic-petroleum-reserve

It is sold to the highest bidder
    Other sales:

The fourth-largest U.S. oil refiner, Phillips 66 (PSX.N), shipped about 470,000 barrels of sour crude from the Big Hill SPR storage site in Texas to Trieste, Italy, according to U.S. Customs data. Trieste is home to a pipeline that sends oil to refineries in central Europe.

Atlantic Trading & Marketing (ATMI), an arm of French oil major TotalEnergies (TTEF.PA), exported 2 cargoes of 560,000 barrels each, the data showed.

Phillips 66 declined to comment on trading activity. ATMI did not respond to a request for comment.

Cargoes of SPR crude were also headed to the Netherlands and to a Reliance (RELI.NS)refinery in India, an industry source said. A third cargo headed to China, another source said.

At least one cargo of crude from the West Hackberry SPR site in Louisiana was set to be exported in July, a shipping source added.

The latest exports follow three vessels that carried SPR crude to Europe in April helping replace Russian crude supplies. read more
