Where does it say we have to do this by next week?
Even in third world countries they are moving towards decentralised grids and renewables because it is cheaper
Crap Kenya looks like being the future powerhouse Since it is investing heavily in renewables

And that is some of what this is really about. The world can not afford to have every person on the planet with the carbon footprint of a North American. Encouraging developing countries to invest in renewables and decentralised grids I’ll keep the carbon footprint low whilst we, who have a deeper footprint work on reducing ours.

You got caught out in a huge hyperbole your best strategy would be to abandon it

It also means more air conditioning or cooling!!!!

    Suuuuuuure!

But who said this heat wave had anything to do with global warming?

A poll of the responses and

Claims by the right that this is caused by global warming - around ten
Claims by the left - well, none so far

    Didn’t say it was

Meanwhile there is an active thread claiming global warming is not happening because of some crop somewhere is cold

How's that low carbon footprint working out for you seeing as how the temperature hit 120* ?

Do you understand the term “carbon footprint” at all???

Your record in here on this issue precedes you and your attempt to claim your OP was just casual talk about the weather falls flat. Nice try :)

Yesterday would be better because we're being taxed for some odd reason. I suppose politicians need to keep the expenses topped up.

No hyperbole whatsoever. Don't you think the likes of America, the UK and Australia should lead by example and unplug? Surely the GW'ists are doing this already?

I cut out all the needless waffle from the article in that section on page 20. The link is there for people to read, I didn't want to create a massive post in reply containing waffle that wasn't needed.

Weather is weird here, too. Early to mid December saw above-freezing temperatures, right up to around Christmas Eve or so. Then we got a cold dip and some associated snowfall. Now we're bouncing back up to above freezing. Looking at a high of 4 Celsius today and tomorrow, with 1 above for Sunday and 4 again for Monday, before highs should finally dip below freezing again. And "here" is Minnesota, the state famous for "Frostbite Falls."

Morons will simply focus on the occasional cold dip and try to tell us that nothing is happening.

You're bragging about renewables and small carbon foot prints and you just set a new record for hot. Oh the irony.

Croweaters more English in pronunciation - "darnce" for dance, "school" instead of the eastern "skewl".

The Earth makes it's "closest approach to the Sun" every year so that's nothing new. The timing of the perihelion with the seasons has a cycle of of 21,000 to 29,000 years. Currently perihelion occurs when during the SH summer. The cycle is so long (20k+ years) that's it been this way for a very long time. In about 10,000 years perihelion will occur during the NH summer solstice.

Don't hold your breath waiting for the Earth to cool due to low solar activity. Solar activity has been waning for 60 years now and the Earth continues to warm and it's warming at an accelerating pace.

I do not support carbon taxes, as I agree... other countries would not pay anyways, they would just cheat the system

corporatism is the issue, foreign outsourcing, foreign imports and corporate greed are more important issues to me

the quality of our food has been corporatized, it's sad.... trans fats, heavily processed seed oils, sugar, low fat... not good for society

And it'll keep on warming whether mankind (opps, peoplekind for the pc brigade) alter the climate by up to 2 degrees c or not, it'll continue to get hotter. Then as thousands and millions of years pass, it'll get so cold, the ice could reach the equator. And then repeat. It's called, a cycle. during this cycle, peoplekind could be made extinct and we'll join the history books of the dinosaurs.

So the actions of tree huggers is admirable at best.

Which physical process do you believe will cause this 2C warmup in the near term?

We'll adapt. There isn't a climate on Earth where man can't live, from frozen tundra to scorching desert. We could even live underground.

The natural cycle of the earth heats up and cools down. Apparently, the earth has had some 5 ice ages and I'm not aware of Man melting any of them. Whether man makes a 2 degree difference or not, this process continues with or without us.

As of today, what is the optimum temperature that the earth should be?

"Natural" is not a physical process. It is only a category under which physical process can be classified. Likewise, "anthroprogenic" is not a physical process either. It's just a category under which a physical processes can be classified.

Some physical processes can be classified as both natural and anthroprogenic. CO2 is a good example because both nature and man can modulate it's concentration in the atmosphere. The physical process here is molecular vibration which converts quantized photon energy into thermal energy.

You are correct. The Earth has had several ice age eras and within the last million years it's had several glacial/interglacial cycles as well. Greenhouse gases (namely CO2) have played an important role in each and every one of them. And remember, CO2 can be either natural or anthroprogenic depending on the actor who modulates it. But, the physical process is exactly the same either way. In other words, CO2 does not have some magic physics defying property that turns off it's molecular vibrations when emitted by man vs. nature. In fact, 150 years of laboratory experiments definitively show that a molecule created by man gets it's bending mode activated by photons with a wavenumber of 667 just like they do with molecules created by nature. The is well understood under the fields of molecular physics and quantum mechanics.

There is no optimal temperature. That's a concept created by deniers and it's as meaningless as all of the other denier arguments.

What I can tell you is if your goal is to optimize world GDP growth and the Earth's carrying capacity for humans then the most ideal scenario is one in which the temperature doesn't change. It doesn't necessarily matter what it is as long as it isn't changing. This allows humans to adapt to whatever the temperature is without having to try and hit a moving target.

How much will it cost to adapt?
