That only requires the majority “of those present”, apparently.

Thank you for showing that this is an exact parallel and indicating a course of action for the Democrats.

They should return 30 seconds before the special legislative session ends. Quorum restored, bill killed for lack of a vote. Win-win.

About as meaningless as the Texas abortion bounty law I was reading about this AM....

Didn't Texas used to be part of the United States?? I'm pretty sure they have NFL and MLB teams....

    What the hell happened?

But they won’t because number one they’re stupid but number two, Abbott will just declare another special session.

And they'll just repeat. Abbott will have no cause to compel their presence until they leave again.

    Then read it again:

“If people do not show up, the House may “compel the attendance of absent members, in such manner and under such penalties as each House may provide.” The Senate rules say “Those for whom no sufficient excuse is made, by order of the majority of those present, may be sent for and arrested wherever they may be found and their attendance secured and retained by the Sergeant-at-Arms or officers appointed by the Sergeant for that purpose.””

Incorrect. Once they’re absent from the quorum (aka they head for the airport during session) they can be held.

And how much would you like to bet the sergeant at arms will be waiting at the airport for them?

But honestly they don’t need to. The order to “retain” them when they come back has already been voted on and passed. Which means if they try to play little games by coming back with only minimal time left, they’ll be held there for the next special session to be called.

No. The members present first have to vote for them to be returned to the legislature.

Nope it’s already been voted on and passed. If they re-enter the state they will be retained until the special session is called and the vote is taken. Hence the verbiage “secured and RETAINED”. They will be retained until a vote is taken.

Technically they don’t even have to re enter the state. Texas’ sergeant at arms has every jurisdiction to go get them in DC. Though I doubt they will exercise that right unless they’re forced to.

There's really too much to cover here, but a few of my choice favorites are giving "poll watchers" the ability to "follow" the transfer of election materials and the ability to look at multiple signatures on file with the state, with no limit on how old the signatures are.

It's not all bad, but the majority of it is completely unnecessary and will reduce voting turnout, which is of course, the goal.

No. Why is comparing signatures a problem? Why is following election materials a problem?

You could have just said " I got nothing." Now that you can't show him to be a "partisan hack" your prior statement regarding his qualifications is meaningless.

Lol they literally threatened a legitimate audit of an election based on unfounded accusations. In an effort to hide their party’s fraud.
