How do you make them shorter without cutting them? Do you support increased taxes to pay for more judges, courtrooms, etc?

To shorten appellate time would cost even more than it does now.

    That's how plea bargains work.
    Unfair, isn't it?

It would have honored Byrd’s family who wanted the killers lives spared.

If your choice was to be euthanized by lethal injection or live in an 8x6 cell for 23 hours a day as Brewer is now, what punishment would you deem worse?

Lots of posters seem to want him executed....and that's fine by me except that then his suffering would be over....I would've rather seen him kept in prison until he died....to me that's more of a punishment.

Why should he have a quick , painless death?

You said "the right". Why didn't you just get real specific and say "White Supremacists"? We all know why, you are just looking to troll and flame bait here.

I agree completely. I don't think that the law is here to send a message or rehabilitate those that comment certain crimes.structured revenge is the point in my head. Although I would admit that it is taking the low road, and those that are on the other side of the issue are the ones that earn the respect for taking the high road. And you guys call me a liberal softy.

And you think you are entitled to speak on the behalf of others. I guess as long as you can change the meaning of what others are saying you are never wrong?

I'm pointing out a logical fallacy.

You know that someone who drags someone to death by chaining them to the back of the vehicle will kill again if given the chance.

If you're willing to give them that chance, then you're willing to risk other people's lives.

Seems some think you're entitled to risk other people's lives for them, so I see little difference in our perspectives.

It's about not taking glee in the killing of a killer.

Some people commit acts so heinous, that they can never be trusted in society.

The "cruel and unusual" argument comes up as a defense here, but the problem with that is that when the "cruel and unusual" part was written, the death penalty was common and life imprisonment was uncommon.

At the time, life imprisonment was seen to be more cruel than a quick death.

Well to be clear, I do feel a strong sense of satisfaction when these murderers are killed. And I hope they know it. I understand this is a personal character flaw, and not the mature point of view. But I gotta be me.

I'm just relieved that that person will never be able to hurt anyone, ever again.

That's why I wouldn't lose a minute of sleep if I had to draw my firearm in defense of myself or potentially someone else.
