Where is this trying to destroy faith coming from?
I am not aware of anyone or law trying to destroy faith. Got some examples?

Interesting....you claim you KNOW that all rocks more than 100,000 years old are volcanic....but then claim you DON'T KNOW how old the Earth is.

There are some remarkable "gaps" in your geological knowledge, aren't there???

Apparently Christian faith is so weak....it cannot survive even analysis of Bible literalism, smaller sub-set of Christian beliefs no less. Not all Christians are "Creationists", but apparently those who are fear for their faith if questons are asked.

I guess you have no idea WTF you are blathering about. The Bible makes no claims about the "age of the Earth", as I have repeatedely tried to get through to you. You just can't get your mind around that fact, for some reason.

Feel free to QUOTE the Bible saying otherwise...as IF...

    - - - Updated - - -

It wasn't my claim; it is a "consensus amongst geologists". IOW, it has every bit as much weight and proof as ALL the silly pretenses of PURE SPECULATION as "FACT" being posted here.

I agree. The younger kids should avoid it and watch "Game of Thrones" instead.

I quoted the Bible.....and showed where the plants were created on the 3rd day....while "the greater light", i.e. the Sun wasn't created until the 4th day.

Bishop Ussher figured out the age of the Earth from the creation date of 23rd October 4004 BC.He calculated this directly from the Bible.

    Or Sparticus...

Uh-huh.Sure. The Bishop is entitled to his OPINION.

There is NO MENTION of the age of the Earth in the Bible, sorry about your Christian-Bashing websites duping you.

Typically, even the most die-hard Young Earth Creationist won't go with Ussur's number anymore. And most of them don't even go with geological age of the Earth (claim they "don't know, nobody knows for sure"...despite the fact they think it's in the 10s of 1000s.....while every sane scientist knows it's in the billions.).

Mostly now they try to claim that MAN only arose in the last 7-10 thousand years. Though some still try to say "all radiocarbon dating is wrong...that fossil is no more than 10,000 years old" somettimes a bit more.

Yet oddly, in their desperate attempt to keep literalism alive....they go after literalism, which Ussur used. By throwing out Ussur's calculation....actually based on the Bible and a good approximation of the birth of Jesus......they admit that Bible literalism is not accurate.

Throw out Ussur?...you throw out a carefully researched "chronology" based ON the Bible.

    - - - Updated - - -

His "opinion" was based on READING the Bible and believing it was literally true and using the ages of the Hebrew Prophets and elders of the Old Testament as given in the Bible and post-dating that from the calculated birth of Jesus.

He was more "Bible literal" than you appear to want to be.

And you delude that this establishes the age of the Earth... exactly? Linear thought troubles again, Landru?

BTW-LIGHT was created before the stars, includiung the Sun,which the Bible CLEARLY STATES.

And his OPINION is still nothing more than that, no matter what he claims to have based it on.
If you believe the Bible specifies the date/time of Creation, please quote it, doing so.

Not a convoluted series of "CALCULATIONS" (aka;"GUESSES), but a DIRECT QUOTE stating what you canoot seem to grasp it DOES NOT SAY.

Nothing funnier than Leftists trying to pretend that they know something....

Apparently the Big Bible Expert Leftninnies cannot seem to find A SINGLE QUOTE in the Bible stating the age of the Earth.

Oh well, the widespread SECULAR IGNORANCE OF THE BIBLE is one of the MAIN REASONS Burnett produced the widly popular show in the first place, after all.

    James Ussher

Funny how some think they know more about the bible then the people who studied it for a living.

Funny how none of you can find a single quote in the Bible stating the age of the Earth, but keep deserately trying to pretend otherwise, exposing your already WELL-DOCUMENTED IGNORANCE of the Scriptures, even more glaringly.

If you want to follow the good Bishop's ESTIMATIONS, feel free; I'll just go with what the Bible ACTUALLY SAYS,and DOES NOT SAY, as well, thank you.

SECULAR IGNORANCE of the BIBLE was a primary motivating factor in the highly successful Burnett producing "The Bible" for the History Channel, and, as this thread clearly illustrates, said IGNORANCE clearly abounds here at PF, as well.

Ussher's calculation is the kind of simple arithmetic even you could manage. The entire genealogy from Adam to Jesus, with the father's age when the child was born. Just add the ages to get the time between their births.

Wow, really? The Hebrews do not accept it, for some reason, but what do they know about their OWN GENEALOGY, right? There is NO CONSISTENT RECORD of the time between Adam and Abraham...sorry. MANY GAPS.

The Hebrews genealogy starts with Abraham. Noah is recognized as his ancestor.

If you are such a great subscriber to the Bishop's claims, feel free to espouse them.

I'll go with what the Bible ACTUALLY DOES and DOES NOT STATE.

The secular IGNORANCE of the FACTS of the Bible are a MAIN REASON why the show was produced in the first place,as is clearly evident.

Got that QUOTE from the Bible, stating the age of the Earth yet?

Der....keep pretending that such a thing exists; it's funny watching you do this.... :deadhorse: , while trumpeting your own , personal COMPLETE LACK of KNOWLEDGE regarding the Scriptures.

Uh-huh. Still confused about what constitutes a "fact" we see. Like the FACT that there is NO continuous RECORD of the time between Adam and Abraham....but feel free to make up whatever you need to try to pretend you know.

The Bible MAKES NO CLAIMS regarding the age of the Earth. Sorry 'boutcha.

So you're NOW a "Young Earther"? Wow...who knew?

Trying to COMBAT IGNORANCE of the BIBLE is one of the main reasons the show was produced in the first place.

Did they show Adam and Eve naked in the garden, or did they put them discretely behind trees and bushes?
