A lot of people don't care - not arguing whether they should or shouldn't, just stating reality

Those people who don't care...........they haven't cared about any of the illegal, immoral, or unethical things Trump has done. They're the people Biden has been talking about. The threats to democracy.

Both parties are destroying democracy in their own way. Not keeping a scorecard and it doesn't matter who is worse, the future for the US is bleak

I've heard false equivalences made between Dems and Repubs for years. Only one party supports an ex-prez who tried to block the peaceful transfer of power because he wouldn't accept defeat.

New York cop who assaulted officer at Capitol gets harshest Jan. 6 sentence to date

A federal judge on Thursday sentenced former New York cop Thomas Webster to 10 years in prison for assaulting a police officer outside the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, the longest sentence handed down yet in cases that arise from the attack.

U.S. District Court Judge Amit Mehta described Webster’s assault on D.C. police officer Noah Rathbun as one of the most haunting and shocking images from that violent day.

He'll have plenty of time to contemplate how he became a Trump pawn.

Ginni Thomas emails urged new 2020 electors in Wisconsin

MADISON, Wis. -- The wife of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas contacted at least two Wisconsin state lawmakers, including the chair of the Senate elections committee, urging them to overturn President Joe Biden's 2020 election win in the tightly contested state, emails obtained Thursday by The Associated Press show.

Virginia “Ginni” Thomas, a conservative activist, also had sent messages to more than two dozen lawmakers in Arizona.

In her communications with lawmakers in both states, Thomas urged Republicans to choose their own slate of electors after the election, arguing that results giving Biden a victory in the states were marred by fraud. Despite numerous reviews, lawsuits and recounts , no widespread fraud calling into question the results has been discovered in either state.

Deal partner for Trump’s Truth Social fails to get backing for SPAC extension: Reuters, citing sources

The blank-check acquisition firm that agreed to merge with Donald Trump’s social media company failed to secure enough shareholder support for a one-year extension to complete the deal, people familiar with the matter said on Monday.

At stake is a $1.3 billion cash infusion that Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG), which operates the former U.S. president’s Truth Social app, stands to receive from Digital World Acquisition Corp, the special purpose acquisition company (SPAC) that inked a deal last October to take TMTG public.

The transaction has been on ice amid civil and criminal probes into the circumstances around the deal. Digital World had been hoping that the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), which is reviewing its disclosures on the deal, would have given its blessing by now for the transaction to proceed.

At least some folks are smart enough not to want to get involved with a criminal.

Bannon Will Surrender To New York State Law Enforcement To Face New Indictment

Former White House chief strategist and MAGA warrior Steve Bannon has been criminally charged in New York in a sealed indictment and is expected to surrender to state prosecutors on Thursday, according to the Washington Post and other outlets.

Bannon confirmed the indictment on Tuesday in a fire-and-brimstone statement ranting that an unnamed district attorney in New York “has now decided to pursue phoney charges against me 60 days before the midterm election because WarRoom is the major source of the Maga grassroots movement.”

Most of the news outlets that reported on the new indictment didn’t have details on the charges.

However, CNN and the Guardian reported that the charges are connected to Bannon’s infamous “We Build the Wall” scam that got him indicted for fraud by the federal government before Trump pardoned his former crony in the final hours of his presidency.

‘We Build the Wall’ leaders who worked with Bannon plead guilty to fraud

“We Build the Wall” campaign crowd-funders Brian Kolfage and Andrew Badolato pleaded guilty Thursday for their roles in pocketing donations solicited to help build a wall along the U.S. border with Mexico.

Kolfage, 39, and Badolato, 57, each pleaded guilty in federal court in New York City to one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud, which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.

Kolfage, a triple-amputee Air Force veteran, also pleaded guilty to tax and wire fraud charges.

The two men worked alongside Steve Bannon, who was the chief White House strategist during the Trump administration and was also indicted in connection with orchestrating the wall crowdfunding effort. Bannon pleaded not guilty and was later pardoned by then-President Donald Trump.

Report: Federal Grand Jury Scrutinizing Trump’s Save America PAC In Jan. 6 Probe

The federal grand jury in an investigation into the Jan. 6 Capitol attack and ex-President Donald Trump’s election steal crusade is now digging into Trump’s “Save America” political action committee, according to ABC News.

The grand jury has reportedly been issuing subpoenas to people in recent weeks demanding documents and witness testimony on the Save America PAC’s fundraising tactics and spending exercises. The grand jury is also reportedly seeking information on how the committee was formed.

Trump established the PAC soon after the 2020 election, and it has raised more than $135 million since then.

I heard a talking head on TV yesterday say the sentencing docket for Bannon's co-conspirators who already plead guilty has been changed to a later date. Suggesting they may be cooperating with the government to get a lighter sentence. Not good for Stevo.

Two Top Trump Political Aides Among Those Subpoenaed in Jan. 6 Case

The Justice Department has subpoenaed two former top White House political advisers under President Donald J. Trump as part of a widening investigation related to Mr. Trump’s post-election fund-raising and plans for so-called fake electors, according to people briefed on the matter.

Brian Jack, the final White House political director under Mr. Trump, and Stephen Miller, Mr. Trump’s top speechwriter and a senior policy adviser, were among more than a dozen people connected to the former president to receive subpoenas from a federal grand jury this week.

The subpoenas seek information in connection with the Save America political action committee and the plan to submit slates of electors pledged to Mr. Trump from swing states that were won by Joseph R. Biden Jr. in the 2020 election. Mr. Trump and his allies promoted the idea that competing slates of electors would justify blocking or delaying certification of Mr. Biden’s Electoral College win during a joint session of Congress on Jan. 6, 2021.

Justice Dept. Issues 40 Subpoenas in a Week, Expanding Its Jan. 6 Inquiry

WASHINGTON — Justice Department officials have seized the phones of two top advisers to former President Donald J. Trump and blanketed his aides with about 40 subpoenas in a substantial escalation of the investigation into his efforts to subvert the 2020 election, people familiar with the inquiry said on Monday.

The seizure of the phones, coupled with a widening effort to obtain information from those around Mr. Trump after the 2020 election, represent some of the most aggressive steps the department has taken thus far in its criminal investigation into the actions that led to the Jan. 6, 2021, assault on the Capitol by a pro-Trump mob.

The extent of the investigation has come into focus in recent days, even though it has often been overshadowed by the government’s legal clash with Mr. Trump and his lawyers over a separate inquiry into the handling of presidential records, including highly classified materials, the former president kept at his residence in Florida, Mar-a-Lago.

    https://www.nytimes.com/2022/09/12/us/politics/trump-aides-jan-6-doj.html

The pace of these investigations is maddening.

Senate to Investigate Charge That Trump Meddled in Prosecutor’s Office

The Senate Judiciary Committee will investigate allegations that the Justice Department under President Donald J. Trump sought to use the U.S. attorney’s office in Manhattan to support Mr. Trump politically and pursue his critics, the committee’s chairman said on Monday.

In one case, Mr. Berman describes how Mr. Barr, after taking office in February 2019, suggested that the conviction of Michael D. Cohen, Mr. Trump’s former lawyer, for violating campaign finance laws be reversed. Mr. Barr also sought to stop related investigations into possible campaign finance violations, the book says.

A Southern District official later persuaded Mr. Barr that there was no basis to drop any charges against Mr. Cohen and that the investigations should be completed, the book says. The inquiry ended without additional charges being filed.

In another case, Mr. Berman writes that department officials pressured the Southern District to prosecute the former secretary of state John Kerry, and when Mr. Berman’s office investigated and declined to bring charges, the department sent the matter to another U.S. attorney’s office, which also declined to prosecute.

In yet another episode, Mr. Berman writes that in September 2018, a department official called Mr. Berman’s deputy two months before the November midterms. After citing the recent prosecutions of two prominent Trump loyalists, the official said the office, which had been investigating Gregory B. Craig, a powerful Democratic lawyer, should charge him — and do so by Election Day. “It’s time for you guys to even things out,” the official, Edward O’Callaghan, the principal associate deputy attorney general, told Mr. Berman’s deputy, according to the book.

    https://www.nytimes.com/2022/09/12/nyregion/geoffrey-berman-trump-justice-department.html

Is it possible that all the dozens of people who have called out Trump for nefarious actions ARE NOT part of some cabal but rather solid citizens looking out for the interests of the country?

The investigation has been ongoing for some time. Implying it is politically motivated, when not investigating would be a dereliction of duty, is weak sauce.

Justice Department pressured former US attorney to bring cases against Trump enemies, Geoffrey Berman says

Berman described a tenure under Attorney Generals Jeff Sessions and Bill Barr and acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker rife with politics and constant interference, pressuring him to remove references to Individual-1, aka Donald Trump, in the case against Michael Cohen, the president's former lawyer.

"On the eve of Cohen's guilty plea, main Justice tried to get our office to remove any reference to Individual-1, who was President Trump. They were unsuccessful in that venture. And they were unsuccessful in every attempt to politically interfere with our office. We held the line in every instance," Berman told ABC's "Good Morning America."

Of the many allegations of DoJ interference this one is among the worst.

Clark Under Investigation For Conspiracy And Obstruction Tied To His Role In The Big Lie

A new report in the D.C. Bar’s ethics case against Jeffrey Clark revealed what potential crimes the DOJ’s watchdog is considering in its investigation into Clark: false statements, conspiracy and obstruction of justice. Clark is, of course, the ex-Justice Department official whom Trump tried to install as acting attorney general and who aimed to use the agency’s power to overturn the 2020 election.

The D.C. Bar report, which was first reported by CNN’s Tierney Sneed and made public on Wednesday, was produced by a committee of the D.C. Bar’s Board on Professional Responsibility. It was issued in response to Clark’s request for deferral in the ethics case. The ethics committee noted that in the deferral request filing, Clark’s lawyers said that “approximately a dozen armed agents of the Department of Justice’s Office of Inspector General” had executed a criminal search warrant at Clark’s home on June 20.

The amount of criminality conducted by and surrounding Trump continues to be difficult to grasp in full.

Justice Department subpoenas Trump White House lawyer Eric Herschmann

A federal grand jury investigating the Jan. 6 attack has subpoenaed Trump White House lawyer Eric Herschmann for documents and testimony, according to a person familiar with the matter.

Herschmann represented Donald Trump in the former president’s first impeachment trial and later joined the White House as a senior adviser. He did not work in the White House counsel’s office, but did provide Trump with legal advice. Because of that responsibility, there will likely be litigation over the scope of the subpoena and over how executive and attorney-client privileges may limit Herschmann’s ability to comply.

New Trump tome 'The Divider' offers most comprehensive chronicle of his term to date

Donald Trump may have lasted only four years in the White House but, unlike other one-term presidents, his era and aura seem unending. His grip on the Republican Party appear as viselike as ever, his insistence on his pre-eminence unabated. He cannot even acknowledge that he lost, and insists he has a right to act as if he hadn't. And more than a third of the country professes to believe him.

The threat to democracy detailed in these pages did not begin with his efforts to overturn the 2020 election, nor did it end there. As the authors of The Divider themselves conclude in their Epilogue, Trump "emerged from a seven-million-vote defeat, two impeachments and the January 6 insurrection as the dominant force in the Republican Party."

Virginia Thomas, a conservative activist married to Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, repeatedly pressed White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows to pursue unrelenting efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election in a series of urgent text exchanges in the critical weeks after the vote, according to copies of the messages obtained by The Washington Post and CBS News.

The messages — 29 in all — reveal an extraordinary pipeline between Virginia Thomas, who goes by Ginni, and President Donald Trump’s top aide during a period when Trump and his allies were vowing to go to the Supreme Court in an effort to negate the election results.

On Nov. 10, after news organizations had projected Joe Biden the winner based on state vote totals, Thomas wrote to Meadows: “Help This Great President stand firm, Mark!!!...You are the leader, with him, who is standing for America’s constitutional governance at the precipice. The majority knows Biden and the Left is attempting the greatest Heist of our History.”

Trump rape accuser plans suit under new NY ‘survivors’ law

NEW YORK (AP) — A writer who accused former President Donald Trump of raping her in a department store dressing room intends to file another lawsuit against him under a new New York law letting sexual assault victims sue over attacks that happened decades ago.

A lawyer for the columnist, E. Jean Carroll, notified a federal judge of her intent to sue in an August letter entered in the public record Tuesday. The suit would allege sexual battery and intentional infliction of emotional distress.

In the letter, the lawyer, Roberta Kaplan, also said she plans to depose Trump in the defamation case that Carroll already had pending against the former president. The deposition would have to occur by Oct. 19, when discovery in the case must be completed for a planned February trial.

Another legal front against Trump opens up. He's going to need to fleece the minions for millions more to pay his legal bills.
