That can't be very many, can it? You've been around awhile and I've never heard you discuss that, nor did I know until just now.

I'm also wondering who it matters to. It's almost 2021, not 1951.

One person (If I name him, I'll be revealing my ignore list) said simply "Yes" on a thread related to race and immigration. Some others avoid outright saying "race traitor" but make it obvious in their wording that what my parents did in having me was wrong.

Look up my old thread titled: "To racial purists: What would you want of me?"

I have 65 on ignore. I think possibly a dozen or so of them have been banned or haven't posted for weeks or months. I have one on Iggy just because of their totally ****ed up formatting fetish.

There must be something in the air, because I've recently considered removing some of our members from my iggy list for a similar reason to this one that you mention here. However, when I review the trade off and take a peak behind the scenes to "Show Ignored Content", I find a post like this, for example:

This is part of my ongoing learning curve to participate here. I'm kinda developing a policy that any member to display such overt racism is banned from my having any reason to know them on this forum, and I like that the app here really does Iggy well. I don't see their OP threads and I don't see any of their posts at all. It is wonderful! My Dad was a racist when I was a kid and he pro-actively ruined a great relationship I had with a good friend just because he was black. Dad still has his issues although he's apparently resolved them at least far enough that he avoided stroking out when my niece, his granddaughter dated a black guy in high school. I don't need racists in my life for a single second of any moment that I have remaining in this lifetime: and certainly not here on a poli message board.

So I'm sticking with my Iggy list and just accepting that there are folks here that the forum allows but that I do not. I've come to accept that this means I'll see a lot of half responses to conversations, but I've come to the conclusion that the members I've not ignored are unfortunately just wasting time with responding to those that I have. I've tested this a bit by clicking the "Show Ignored Content" toggle at the bottom of the page: and then finding out that, yeah, I'm happy to have had that post on ignore.

There are a couple of folks I have on ignore that maybe I went too far with by doing so, but sometimes there is collateral damage in the fog of political debates..... Hahaha....

BINGO!!! Perhaps this is the solution to the 'Ignore' dilemma. Now is there a way we can suggest/promote this as a potential solution with the powers that be on PF?

It's currently available on a page by page basis. You just have to go to the bottom to toggle it on each page. Not all that much of a hassle really. Hit the end key, click the toggle "Show Ignored Content", hit the home key.

It would be kinda sweet though to have the option available on a per post basis to see the quote of the ignored member that the non-ignored member is replying to.

True. I abhor racism too. Me too, I tend to ignore people who use racist nicknames to refer to Barack Obama and sexist/racist ones to refer to Michelle Obama. It's interesting that I very rarely, if ever, use the "Show Ignored Content" toggle. I figure that if I have enough reason to place someone on Ignore, it's for good. Even when I witness amputated discussions, I don't change it. But yes, maybe my list, 80-strong, was too exaggerated. I think I had people on Ignore who weren't so bad. So like I said I restored almost everybody, 78 of them, but now have already moved back a few to the list, like you said, thinking that I was right to block them out in the first place. But now I'll try to be a bit more tolerant and to avoid impulsively doing it out of irritation, and try to do it when there is a truly compelling reason, like an idiotic racist approach or dishonest debating style/trolling. I also have no use for conspiracy theorists. I think that those people do belong in an Ignore list for two reasons: their ideas are completely far-fetched/dumb, and there is no arguing with them because whatever fact you throw their way, they dismiss it in favor of their twisted delusions. Unfortunately the "Biden stole the election" idea (which is of course completely false) has become a conspiracy theory, so, this was one of the reasons why my list grew so much.

I've got no one on an ignore list.

Why participate in a debate forum if you're afraid to debate those whose views differ from your own?

But do you read responses? Had you read the entire thread, you'd know that people aren't using ignore to shut down differing points of view.

There's a difference between ignoring someone because they have a different worldview, ignoring someone who is a simple troll and never adds anything to the debate (basically a bot) and ignoring someone whose sole mission in life seems to be baiting you into a ban. I just put someone in the penalty box because he seemed intent on the latter. I've never done it for the first reason. I've done it more for the second than anything else, but when I cleared out my ignore list I noticed all of them were either gone or permabanned - probably for being bots, who knows.

As I said earlier in the thread, I understand most reasons given for using the ignore function. And I get the frustration of banging your head against the wall with posters that won’t even consider your posts or facts presented.

However, I try and remember the banging of one’s head against the wall doesn’t happen in a vacuum. Third party readers see your posts and are educated not only on facts and opinions you present, but on the mentality of the knucklehead you are engaging. Watching someone deny fact or logic is educational in its own right. (I know you have written long posts on Covid to lost causes for edification of third parties, CF)

Anyway, I guess my point is, for those of us here to learn, there is value in reading your posts in response to deniers, turds, and “incorrigibles”. :)

I just checked my ignore list.

It has 8 people. 7 of whole are perma-banned.

I only have one actual "active member" on my ignore list.

It was somebody who I had on ignore for a long time.

And then, when I finally took them took them off of ignore, it became apparent that it was their life's mission to follow me around the board in an utterly futile attempt to bait me into an exchange.

This person went to such extremes, that it is clear that they had every keystroke that I ever posted arranged in Encyclopedia Form (like a Concordance to the Bible).

They have even gone so far as to dredge up.posts from over 4 years ago, and paste them into unrelated threads.

With all that I have to navigate at this forum, with a constant target on my back and having to put up with 24/7 attempts to bait me in an exchange--It simply isn't worth my time to have deal with someone who exhibits that level of obsession in trying to get my attention.

But, outside of that 1 person, I have no one on my ignore list.

One misses out on too much Comic Relief (by having people on ignore).

You're right. I do recall "people" who acted like bots as well as PF Posters who employ flamebaiting as a means to get me banned. Those people are the ones I simply ignore on a case-by-case basis or use as a foil.
On the other hand, I've had Posters who have put me "on iggy" because they could not refute what I'd written and supported.

What I meant was that I don't have an actual list of people I ignore and try to respond to all posts with civility and respect as time permits.

How do you know that is why they put you on ignore? In fact, how would you know you are on ignore in the first place?

I believe I’m on a couple people’s ignore list. They made a big deal out of threatening to ignore me if I didn’t conform to their wishes, then said they were putting me on ignore, and then no longer responded to any of my content. They could have been lying...

Perhaps it would better clarify things if you looked at the exchange I had with the other Poster where, after a brief exchange he (@MGB ROADSTER) made it clear that he could not refute the facts I presented and ignored my additional Posts.

Please see Post # 1946 and note my following responses.
