This comparison only makes sense if the OP is complaining that future James Bond movies will have black producers and directors instead of white ones. That's not what is happening here.

What you have here is a false dilemma. Put another way, the problem exists in the minds of those who object ... making it THEIR problem. The rest of us are free to just enjoy the movie. I did!

yeay but Idris ELba is British. I have no problem with ELba playing Bond if he has all the other bond characteristics.

That would be dreadfull. Elba would be fine

    Not a problem.

Hollywood portrays the ancient Egyptian pharoahs as white when history clearly shows they were black.

In Herman Melville's Moby Dick Father Mapple is black. Yet on tv and in the movies he is portrayed as white.

Calamity Jane has been portrayed by Hollywood as a ravishing beauty. In fact she was masculine, smoked cigars, and had a mannish appearance.

When you consider what used to be called artistic license, this is not a problem.

The Egyptian pharaohs were more like Mediterranean Caucasian. The Moby Dick character was never established on screen, so it didn't matter what race he would be depicted. They chose white to appeal to a larger audience...same with Calamity Jane.

I always thought back in the day that Denzel Washington would have made an awesome James Bond. I am much more concerned about African-Americans in this country taking charge of their own destiny, stop murdering themselves both inside and outside of the womb and get some real leaders and get rid of the foolish ones they have now.

James Bond should be a Brit. The character is British and I think, as an iconic British movie role, the British public would prefer he remain British.

Histpry does not "clearly show the ancient Pharoahs were black" this is nonsense. Some of the Pharoahs of upper egypt were black. Certainly your statement is incorrect

Idris Elba is British. He can play James bond. Washington wopuld be terrible. Bond is not a yank

Why must he be Black though? Why not Sikh? Is there some kind of obsession with promoting Negroes in movies? (hint: yes)

    nonsense

even National Geographic knows the truth that they were black:

    King Tut:

Everybody knows the truth but they persist in their myths because they are just too prejudiced and too ignorant to admit that blacks created Western civilization.

    Father Mapple portrayed as white:

    from the book Moby Dick,

Mapple ''folded his large brown hands" and swiped the sweat ''away from his swarthy brow. Thus, Mapple was a black man preaching in a white church.

This symbolism has been lost on the modern audience but was very significant in those days - the thought that a black man can call whites his "brethren" was shocking and outrageous to racists in that day. This on top of Queequeg (a black Fijian) and Ishmael (a white Anglo) calling each other brother for life. Small wonder why Melville was so criticized by critics back then.

I know Idris Elba is a Brit. My point was that Denzel Washington isn't.

Unless a character has a copyright on them, they can be played by anyone. Now if it's a historical character it should be kept believable. For instance, no Black George Washingtons.

We know they can be played by anyone. The point is that a Black bond makes a mockery of the characterisation.

Ian Fleming would not have been happy.

Bond being Brit is actually a dig. There's a sort of atmosphere of fun that runs throughout the stories based on the fact that in reality MI6 wouldn't be able to support Bond

What I'd like would be a female Bond, a dogged, determined and nearly indestructible woman, who would run through 3 or 4 male corpses a movie sparing them only a terse quip as she sauntered off to kill another improbable villain.

Your example is so broad that it is comparable to saying that whites have two feet, "like blacks". A more specific example of comparison would say something like George Thorogood was influenced by Elmore James, Hound Dog Taylor, Chuck Berry and perhaps John Lee Hooker.

Nonsense. Bond was based on real British Intelligence agents.

Why? The trouble is that isn't Bond but a lame distorted imitation.

Bond is as about as far away from a real member of Mi6 as is possible.

Bond is fiction pure and simple.
