if you can afford it, then you can drive it.

And, the earth has experienced climate cycles many times. Florida used to be mostly underwater, and then it wasn't it

And so it goes and so it goes.

Now, if anyone wants to discuss pollution then I'm right there with you.

Which is why I say it is silly to disagree climate change isn’t happening — this planet has gone from ice to water to massive storms. Climate change is irrefutable.

Plastics in the oceans that is decimating marine life. That’s our fault. Landfills polluting groundwater causing massive die offs, also our fault. We know we are causing these and most people still don’t care.

As an avid scuba diver it is heartbreaking to see the trash on the sea floor.

That should make it a deterrent.

Surgery is a physical thing, you can physically detect the problem. Global warming, besides being a religion to some folks, is a guess. Can you or anyone else tell me how cold it will be six months from now? What is the planet’s climate supposed to be? Are we supposed to have hurricanes, droughts, floods, etc? If we have them it’s because of global warming. If we don’t have them it’s because of global warming. Has Greta visited China or India yet?

So you have NO evidence whatsoever. Only coincidence. Got it.

I've read them. I'm one who believes that climate change is a real phenomena and humans are directly contributing to it to some extent. Exactly how much direct effect we are having is debatable but I do believe we are speeding up the natural climate change cycle the planet goes through. I think our consumption habits are the biggest issue though vs the direct burning of fossil fuels. Even for those who think that fossil fuels have no effect nobody can argue with the fact that humans are doing things like destroying natural habitats and deforestation. I mean raw data doesn't lie, over a billion hectares of forest has been destroyed in the last 40 years alone and it's not like the trees just vanished due to natural causes, humans did that.

The problem with the IPCC is their alarmist rhetoric which is spread rapidly nowadays due to the internet which in turn causes some governments to attempt to take action. That's ok, trying to do something isn't a bad thing, but when you start saying stuff like "We have 2 years left to take dramatic action or it'll be too late" then you get folks losing their ever loving minds freaking out about it and sometimes doing stupid crap like whats going on in this OP.

Here's the biggest problem, the recommendations a lot of these climate change scientists make are simply too extreme to ever be practical in the timelines they put out. It can't be done, period. The modern world flat out does not have the capability to maintain a modern society with 100% green energy yet. Trying to supplement our energy requirements with green energy is fine but we see the same types of stories time and time again of countries around the world having to reactivate their fossil fuel programs to meet energy requirements when trying to switch to renewable energy. The bottom line is that we built our modern society, economy, and infrastructure to run on fossil fuels and we're being told we need to renovate everything NOW or we're all screwed. Can't be done, not without collapsing the modern world and as "dire" as the situation may be human beings are not going to trade our modern world for the long term survival of the planet even if it is irrefutable evidence that we are going to kill the planet in the next 50 years.

Alarmist rhetoric by scientists and politicians is what is causing this type of extremism to the point where these people believe themselves morally obligated to run around slashing tires to save the world. Not everyone is intelligent to put it frank, the world isn't going to end due to climate change in any of our lifetimes regardless of how old any of us currently are right now and authorities need to quit freaking out the masses by constantly saying crap like that.

LOL! When actually challenged about climate change it is clear that NO science is behind it. It is pretty much a religion at this point.

    Here are some facts:

China has a bigger carbon footprint than any other country. Why don't the climate change folks go there and flatten tires?

To be fair Greta has openly called out China for that in the past and did acknowledge they were the biggest problem by far.

Then the Chinese media called her fat and a bunch of Chinese officials went on Twitter and called her stupid and said shut up we don't take advice from little girls LOL

I doubt she would ever go to China and call them out, she’d probably be arrested.

For those of you who are unaware, there are boulders in New York’s Central Park that were dragged there by a glacier which has long since melted away. Also, New York’s Finger Lakes we’re carved out by a glacier that’s long gone.

The left doesn't give a **** about climate change. They're almost all hypocrites who are doing nothing but playing politics. Until the left starts demanding sanctions and changes regarding China and India, it's nothing but empty, meaningless, nonsense. If they actually cared, they'd be all over China and India. They'd be calling for boycotts of anything and everything made in either country (china especially).

Because during the time of her original infamous tirade in front of the UN she was a little girl with aspergers syndrome who went on stage and fussed at a bunch of grown adult world leaders. That was so cute, and "brave" of her. Adults tend to let kids get away with stuff like that because they're kids. If a little slow kid started roasting you then most of us would probably laugh and play along but if an adult said the same things we probably wouldn't tolerate it. Everyone sort of left her alone back then which allowed her to run around with this nonsense for a few years with complete immunity from criticism building up her followers. I think even China let her be until she grew up at which point all bets were off. I mean yeah she got criticized somewhat but not harshly.

Nowadays it's more socially acceptable to trash on Greta because shes grown, it's not "mean" and "picking on a little girl" anymore.

I watch **** loads of YouTube videos. One I watched was on mining sulphur. We need sulphur to vulcanize rubber for tyres, gaskets, o rings, door seals etc.. anywhere where rubber is required. EV's are not immune to this. So where does 98.2% of the world's sulphur come from? Crude oil.

Jump to 8:50 for that stat. But if people watch it before that, oil is very interesting -

If anyone thinks humans can ditch oil, they need to think again.

    Thank you

The reports are impressive and I have to say hard going :p However I disagree that these reports are “alarmist” and would like you to point out exactly where the alarmism exists within them.

Are you aware that a new report on mitigation was published? https://www.ipcc.ch/report/ar6/wg3/

    W
hat these reports do is lay out POSSIBLE pathways - the actual enactment is up to the various governments

    Hyperbole again

Trouble is people listen to the right wing pundits who are busy telling you what “the left” wants you to do

When you look at facts “the left” does not want this. Yes we are moving to EVs and this is happening worldwide with places like China leaving us in the dust and the reason will be both economic and local environmental reasons. Many Asian cities are choking in fumes and the requirement for long range EVs are less so we will see many Asian countries adopt before us
