There are more than 300m firearms in US circulation. You can make them from common materials, with hand tools as a benighted peasant in Pakistan much less someone with access to power tools and Google and a hardware store, plans are everywhere etc.

You're never going to be able to disarm the us population. Guns aren't going away. When you ban things people retain them, sell them on the black market etc.

The disease analogy is pretty lame since progress is continuously being made in developing methods and drugs to treat diseases. Think about cancer treatment thirty years ago versus today as an easily understood example. Or take aids as another.

 

Claiming any responsible group wants to disarm the population is nothing more than a very smelly red herring. The objective of gun laws is to reduce gun deaths not disarm the population.
