In Italy cases are arising again.
We expected this: it has happened in 2021 and in 2020: this is the period when SARS-Cov2 circulates a lot.
What we are expecting for the next weeks is an increase in hospitalizations and occupation of ICUs, but nothing concerning for our Healthcare System.

At least judging the danger coming from these last variants, we could be enough safe at level of general society.
We could ... SARS-Cov2 has already surprised us in the recent past. So it's better to wait and see.

    This happened today:

    2022-03-023 USA exceeds 1,000,000 total C19 deaths.png

The USA has now officially exceeded 1,000,000 total Covid-19 deaths.

It should also be noted that the USA is marching toward 1,000,000,000 (1 BILLION) official Covid-19 tests performed.

On 2022-03-023, for the first time in it's Covid-19 history, Germany exceeded +300,000 daily cases, joining a very small group of nations to have ever experienced this in one single day (USA, India, France, South Korea).

Might notice 63,563,813 recoveries. The numbers are tragic but death isn't inevitable, not even most probable.

Just with the naked eye I can see that we will end CW-12 with less worldwide +cases than the week before. A big factor is the almost complete dropoff in +cases in the USA and India despite an unearthly surge in South Korea and no lightening up in Germany.

South Korea, which entered the 10,000,000- club this week and is now already well over 11,000,000, has now surpassed Spain in the rankings. South Korea therefore enters the CW analyses but will fall out of them (along with a number of other nations) the very next week as my definition of "dreadnaught" will change from 10,000,000 to 20,000,000 total cases with the beginning of Q2 2022. Of course, at the rate South Korea is moving then by the end of April 2022 it could very well re-enter the CW analyses.

Also, Germany will likely surpass the UK in the rankings before EOQ1 2022.

    To update:

The analysis for CW-12 comes out tomorrow, but it looks very much as if we will end CW-12 with between 1.3-1.4 million LESS +cases than in CW-11.

Also, in this last week, Chile suddenly jumped from 44,518 total C19 deaths in CW-11 to 56,381 deaths at the end of this week (CW-12), a jump of +11,863 deaths out of the blue, obviously a clerical issue, but jarring nonetheless.
    .
And then this coming Thursday, 2022-03-031, we already have EOQ1 for 2022, which makes for exactly 90 days since the year began and that massive analysis will come out later in the day on Saturday, 2022-04-002. In the past, for the EOM analyses, I published the screenshots of all excel tables before the analysis, but since then more and more nations are moving to updating their figures 2 days or more into the past, so I will grab the latest possible data from 2022-04-002 using the 2-days-ago function, do the large analysis and then afterward I will publish the screenshots. That makes for less hick-hack all the way around.

It was one year ago this week that India was showing signs of a major rise in +cases, leading to the massive Delta-wave that hit India originally and then spread most all over the place, making April 2021 the month of India.

To illustrate this, here the corresponding Monday from 2021 to today, all the way through the first week of May, 2021 for India:

2022-03-028 India lookback to 2021 beginning of Delta wave.png

As a matter of fact, the India-wave was so intense, I ran a comparison to the USA's first major wave in 2020:

Food for thought as we soon enter into April, 2022.

On 2022-03-026 (last Saturday), the UK went over one half-billion C19 tests performed, the 3rd nation on earth to do so, after the USA and India.

Yesterday, 2022-03-027, France exceeded 25,000,000 total Covid-19 cases, fourth in the world behind the USA, India and Brazil. But now over 20,000,000, both the UK and Germany (ranks 5 and 6) are not all that far behind. This means that as of CW-13, next Sunday, I will only be screenshotting those 6 nations instead of 11.

Currently, the figures for worldwide composite figures and 11 of the 80 tracked nations are published here as screenshots on a weekly basis.
South Korea joined the weekly tracking during this week.

The 12th full week of 2022 showed a mixed picture, with 1,352,919 LESS +cases than in C11 but with Omikron subvariant B2 still forming a new wave across some nations in our world. See: top-80 tables. At this point with such a murky picture, the C19 numbers can go in any direction in the next week.

    Here the rubrik worksheet:

The history excerpt for the week:

The trend area of the top-80 table shows trends for two consecutive weeks. Green shading = a reduction of some sort over the CW before. Red shading = a surge of come sort over the CW before. No shading = status unchanged.

    Here sorted by +cases / +avg cases:

You can see that in this last week, 3 nations added more than +1,000,000 cases to their count and 4 nations total added more than +100,000 cases per day (in the week before and the week before that, it was 3 in both cases). The top three +case getters were South Korea, Germany & Vietnam - but the difference in the +case growth rates is just astounding.

Here the same 80-nation list, sorted by growth rate:

Worldwide, the growth-rate in +cases decreases to +2.32% (it was +2.67% the week before), with Israel tracking the worldwide growth rate the closest (rank 22). 3 nations had over 10% growth rate, with South Korea, New Zealand and Vietnam outstripping the rest of the nations in growth rate.

    And here, by trend:

We ended CW-12 with 3 nations at a plateau with each of those plateaus trending in a different way. 18 nations are still surging forward (last week it was 21) but 59 nations show the +cases receding (last week it was 49). There were 17 green trends (downward), 13 red trends (upward), 51 remained static.

My eyes are seeing a steep rise in +cases in Australia (again: round 2?) but also in far lesser known places not in my tracking (yet): Cyprus, Reunion and the Channel Islands.

Also, New Zealand (which is in my tracking) has not let up one bit, is averaging about +15,000 per day, which will put it well over the million-mark within Q2 of 2022.

A common characteristic of all of these is that they are island-nations.

Yesterday, 2022-03-029, France shot up over +200,000 daily cases, an obvious sign that a second omikron wave is now full in swing in the land of frogs, baguettes, Peugeots and 3-hour lunches.

    17 NATIONS EXCEEDED 1,000,000 TOTAL C19 CASES DURING Q1 OF 2022
6 NATIONS ARE NOW OVER 20,000,000 TOTAL CONFIRMED C19 CASES

THE USA EXCEEDED 1,000,000 TOTAL C19 DEATHS DURING Q1 OF 2022

THE USA IS ALSO NEARING 1,000,000,000 (ONE BILLION) TOTAL C19 TESTS PERFORMED
FOR OTHER MAJOR RUBRIK CHANGES DURING THIS TIME, SEE: RUBRIK TABLE
    ---------------------------------------------------------
The number of serious/critical (ICU) cases worldwide: 57,556 (EOY 2021: 89,834)
Combined, the top 80 nations have performed a total of over 5.7 BILLION Covid-19 tests.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    STAT'S EXCEL-TABLE:
    2022-03-031 WORLDWIDE 000.png

In just one quarter's time, our big, beautiful world went from almost 288.5 to 488.4 million COVID-19 cases and from 5.45 to 6.17 million COVID-19 deaths. Before you read farther, please re-read that last sentence and reflect for a moment. In all of 2021, we added 206.5 MILLION cases during that year. Now, in just one quarter in 2022, we added almost exactly 200 million cases. IN. JUST. ONE. QUARTER.

What the daily-averages mean: +2,221,064, +7,934 = 1,542 fresh C19 cases (it was 907.5 at EOY 2021) and 5.5 C19 deaths per minute (it was 4.4 deaths at EOY 2021). EVERY MINUTE OF EVERY DAY. For the sake of context, that's considerably more cases per whatever unit of time you wish to use to measure, but definitely less deaths vis-a-vis EOY 2020.

I would like to reflect just a bit on what happened thus far in 2022: we saw the Omikron variant spread out from South Africa and it was starting to gain foot in Europe, but suddenly, at the New Year, it was as if it was everywhere. We saw nations that a lot of people do not even know exist suddenly whirl over the million-mark, 17 of them, to be exact. Here the "millions club update for you:

    2022-03-031 millions club update.png

After the massive wave hit the USA and then also India, later in the Quarter it was Germany's and then South Korea's turn to dominate the headlines for a while. It appears that the Omikron wave truly is ebbing right now, going into Quarter 2 of 2022.

I ended 2021 tracking 65 nations; that tracking has now increased to 80. The screenshots of the excel tables will be provided in the next days, but you can always see them at the online tables, anyway. The top 80 nations represent around 97% of the total worldwide numbers in cases, deaths and tests.

The growth rates represented above are most instructive. For instance, New Zealand.

Here I would take "trend" with a grain of salt because we are measuring a four-day trend since the end of CW12 until EOQ1 over the trend from an entire week (CW12 over CW11). Nonetheless, it can be informative.

One can also get a good overview with the continental numbers:

I suspect that these tables are pretty self-explanatory.

THE TRACKED NATIONS UNDER THE 1,000,000-MARK, HOW CLOSE TO 1,000,000?

I will be publishing this with the concise analysis for CW 13, which will come out next Tuesday, so that I can use the most current complete weekly figure for the daily averages.

In retrospect, tracking on a weekly basis only is working out well for all of us, I think. In the coming week, I will be commenting on some of the statistics provided in this posting.

Thanks for staying faithful to this dreadnaught thread.

    READ!
In the past, the screenshot tables were provided pre-analysis. As of this quarter, they will be provided post-analysis. None of the figures are preliminary. They are all permanent.

Please remember that the average values are for the entire quarter and not just for one week.

Also, in column "O" (daily average cases) I have highlighted the week of these first 13 weeks where each country had it's (first) Omikron peak.

    So, let's get started.
