That is your opinion, its not a fact and I don't think you are stating it correctly but English is not your first language.

If BMW wants to sell cars in the US and avoid the tariff they will build a plant to do that in the US. If they don't and their cars don't sell well here anymore they can leave the market like Fiat did years ago. Its a simple business decision.

Strange you should mention IPhones. Apple is spending $350 billion and bringing their manufacturing base back to the US. They say it will create 20K jobs over the next 5 years. Good thing Trump has made the US business friendly again. By the way most of the stuff made in China is not high tech. Most of it is the $2 crap you buy in Wal-Mart. It don't take no giant infrastructure to build that. As for the high tech stuff. S. Korea, Japan and Mexico say bring it on.

Wow, tank the economy. Apple putting $350 billion back into the US economy is as much as the US exports to China in 3 years. The US exports $116 billion to China annually not even 1% or our GDP. China exports $463 billion to the US. About 5% of their GDP. Who loses if there is a trade war?

and you think german will just bend over and said oh yeah, they tax us 25%, so BMW go ahead build a plant there lol what would happen is they will work with china and sell more stuff there. what do you think merkel went to china right after US-China talk last week. Now China is happy to get german/canada/Mexico on their side against US in a tariff war. US basically push all its allies into China, and russia/china couldn't be more happier.

you do know that $350B is one time, not every year right. the $150B export to china is every year and account 8-10% of total US export. of course now Trump just give EU/Mexico/Canada the finger, so they all moving toward china now at least in economy.

BMW's largest plant is in South Carolina. It is their most profitable manufacturing facility. I think about 1/3 of the cars BMW sells in the US are built there. An import tax might force BMW to open more plants in the US to get around it. They sell about 350,000 cars here annually. They are not going to ignore that much business.

unless a trade war with German cause german shift closer to China. BMW sell about 600,000 car in china, almost double what they sell in US

Most of those cars are built in the US. But it makes no difference. Do you think that because they have a market in China that they will give up their market in the US? Let me clue you, BMW will keep a low profile and hope they do not get dragged into this. The tariff on aluminum may add $2 or $3 to the cost of one of their cars. They are not going to tip the boat for that.

Good on Apple, but in typical Trump fashion, you make believe they never did anything in the US before.

Over $10 billion of Appleā€™s expanded capital expenditures will be investments in data centers across the US. Over the last decade, Apple has invested billions of dollars in data centers and co-located facilities in seven US states, including North Carolina, Oregon, Nevada, Arizona and a recently announced project in Iowa.

People like to build things close to their market. Hence the Foxconn plant to build Sharp LCD's and Apple glass.

What most free traders want is a global economy that works for a few but drags most American citizens down to the level of a shoeless mexican or chinese peasant

Too many liberals and libertarians have lost their sense of patriotism

They no longer think or care about the best interests of America

it's about cheap products everyone wants but no one wants to lose jobs to get them...a delicate balancing act between consumers and workers...

    Just to be clear.
You would give up your freedom to buy at the best price?
If so, it's easy. We can change to a government similar to China's where the government subsidizes and steers industry. It is very efficient, but kind of un-American.

For now the system in China seems to work, but no one knows what will happen when next generation comes to power.

That has always been a limited freedom at best

The southern states were not free to buy lower cost British and French products before the war or after

The japanese for onstance could but race much cheapet from the United States or Thailand but for national security impose tariffs to protect japanese farmers

Who in turn protect the japanese people from starvation

Depends on what you call working. When you have zero environmental restrictions on your industry it will be more profitable. However, 70% of the water ways in China can not support life and the air quality is probably the worst in the world. Next, their government can throw anyone out of their home and use that land for anything they want at any time. They even control how many children you are allowed to have. That is not the kind of freedom I am looking for.

    I'm almost speechless.
So should we put a $200 tariff on a barrel on oil? I bet we could find enough at that price to protect ourselves.
Of course gas would be $20 a gallon, plastic would be a thing of the past, and we could go back to horses.
