So a General as Sec of DEFENSE makes one a "Dictator"? I think you are throwing around words you dont understand again.

Finally, we'll have a strong, brilliant, highly respected military man leading the defense dept. instead of another DC dweller. Love it!

Key democrats have already indicated they would issue a waiver. This guy is a very good choice and he is a reluctant warrior who knows what our military is for, and it's not to administrate social programs.

Filibuster could stop his nomination but I don't see the Dems bothering this early on.

Trump is setting himself up for failure with his cabinet picks. Trump the warmonger will happen because he lacks the intellect to understand the consequences of his actions.

Unfortunately the lives and limbs of our finest will be needlessly sacrificed for no good purpose.

I've got no problem with a warhorse being Secretary of Defense.

Last night Trump gave a speech in Cincinnati where, among other things, he called again for toppling ISIS and ending a policy of regime change.

Donald Trump promised a “new era of peace” during the first stop of his “Thank You” tour in Cincinnati, Ohio, vowing that the US will stop trying to overthrow world governments and will cooperate with countries fighting terrorism.

The president-elect also promised to cooperate with any country interested in destroying Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL).

"We will partner with every nation that is willing to join us in the effort to defeat ISIS and radical Islamic terrorism," Trump told a large crowd at US Bank Arena in Cincinnati on Thursday evening, as quoted by TASS.

"We will destroy ISIS. At the same time, we will pursue a new foreign policy that finally learns from the mistakes of the past. We will stop looking to topple regimes and overthrow governments, folks," Trump said, as quoted by The Washington Examiner.

"Our goal is stability, not chaos because we wanna rebuild our country. It's time," he said.

This is sane foreign policy; going after real enemies and not manufacturing new ones.

More projection from the same people that supported the candidate that never met a war she didn't like. The mess in Syria is a good example.

    Such a war monger.

Thankfully, mr Reid eliminated the ability of the minority party to filibuster a cabinet post. Ooops....

I absolutely agree and wonder who could possibly be against such sensible policy? Frankly, Trump's cabinet picks so far have been very encouraging and Mattis may be the best pick of all.

Proverbs 16:18 Pride goes before destruction

Around the time Reid did this the progressives were claiming that Republicans would never hold the WH again. Reid was convinced the democrats would gain the Senate back that he foolishly changed the rules.

Exactly right. For all of the democrats in congress, specifically the Senate, who are now going to wax poetic about the tyranny of it, perhaps had they thought about it before they acceded to it in the first place, their sensitivities would still have some value in that chamber..

    Nice!
Who's ready for a war with Iran?!

I guess all of those people who called Hillary a war monger will be happy now that 'mad dog' has real power and authority.

Picking someone capable of winning a war does not equal wanting to start more wars.

The nation is tired of war. That's why Hillary's schedule is open on January 20.
