Of course they are. The ability to shoot down Russian nukes gives the US first strike potential and a decided advantage. Would Russia put ABM's on our borders the child birth pain screams from the Pentagon would be heard round the world.

The whole point of the ABM treaty was to prevent some buckaroo from thinking "we will strike first and when they shoot back we will shoot them down"

Bush pulled out of the ABM treaty in 2002 - ok fine - but then proposing putting them on Russia's borders in Poland Czech was nuts. Russia went ballistic - and for good reason. This action - for the exact reason above - destabilizes nuclear detente. Russia was then forced to take counter measures. The considered a number of options

1) nukes in space - this was not done - and thank God for that. Having nukes above our head in space 30 seconds away - instead of 30 minutes away is "hair trigger". This threat to global security makes Iran look like an ant beside an elephant.

Fortunately Russia did not do this.

2) violate the short range treaty and build short range nuclear cruise missiles - to take out the ABM's prior to launch. Obviously this puts Europe in the crosshairs - again increasing the global security threat - arguably as much as Iran - had to think on that one.

Russia has been working hard on missile technology since the wall fell - not having cash to match the US plane for plane ship for ship - they opted for niche technologies - you can fire a whole lot of 1 million dollar missiles for the cost of a 15 billion dollar carrier. They have been working in conjunction with India for near 2 decades and with China as well - hence the new hypersonic stuff they have.

3) They doubled down on their sub program.

With Russia feeling that 2/3 provided enough restabilization of detente - they didn't go the "nukes in space" route.

I remember the Obama Clown going on TV complaining "Russia has violated the short range treaty".... the clown show MSM then spent 3 days putting up footage of the Reagan years and the START treaties. What Obama failed to mention was " And by the way - we forced them to do it by violating the ABM treaty and putting ABM's on Russia's border".

The propaganda put out in relation to "we are defending Europe against Iran" was complete BS. Russia even offered a different location - one better suited to such a defense - think it was Khackistan or some place in a better intercept path (Turns out that Poland would not even work) this offer was refused.

We have been poking the Bear - big time - and this is stupid. Now we are talking about weaponization of space - to counter the Russian missile threat. MAD ness.
