It's not the possession of the documents that is the big problem here. If trump hd JUST returned the documents when asked (as Biden did) then there would
NOT HAVE been a problem. The big problem with Trump is that it appears he tried to HIDE documents and LIED about keeping
them. As with what happed to Nixon - it wasn't the crime - it was the COVER-UP that brought him down.

 

Funny, what was Hillary doing when she destroyed 30,000 + emails and smashed Blackberries? Biden still has records out at the Universities of Delaware and Pennsylvania.

But perhaps the hypocrisy is okay. If this eliminates Trump from the race, perhaps we could end up with a decent candidate to run against Biden or Newsom. The trouble is Merrick Garland and the Justice Department should not be determining who gets to run for president. That sets a dangerous precedent.

Ok. And? How many times have folks been outraged by the corruption in our government? Many times is the answer.

How many times has anything been done about it? Answer: none.

 

If he’s convicted, it might since he will be a convicted felon. At any rate all of these lawsuits, and there could be another one in Georgia, will distract him from campaigning and drain his resources. That’s the whole idea.

I wonder if the Democrats will do this to all of the Republicans who are elected president in the future? What if Tim Scott were to win? Who will the Democrats persecute with lies and strategic law suits?

Trump is far from the first. Many people who have worked for or supported him have been indicted. The message is clear. If you support Trump, we might go after you. Stay in your foxhole and let US run the country. If you get out of line, we might go after you too.

 

I'm more concerned that others weren't charged than I am that Trump is being charged. That's the right thing to do considering what he has done. It was probably the right thing to do for the others too. This kind of thing needs to be taken extremely seriously.

The main difference between Biden/Pence and Trump is that Biden and Pence both called the appropriate authorities when classified documents were discovered, allowed the FBI to conduct further searches, and fully cooperated. Trump, meanwhile, never fully cooperated, has pretty much lied about everything from "they were all declassified" to "they are mine" to all the other falsehoods he claimed. In essence, the intent by Trump was to obstruct whereas Biden and Pence, a Republican, were not. This has historically been the way the FBI and DOJ have handled the discovery of classifed documents.

Hillary took no classified info at all. A grand total of _three_ documents, marked confusingly, were found on her server. If it had been any other human in the world except for Hillary Clinton, no one would have cared. It wouldn't even have risen to black mark on the employment record.

Pence and Biden, their staffers accidentally packed up some things. Trump, he deliberately ordered that a whole bunch of things be taken. Totally different. Intent matters.

And? That's not a crime. Doing it deliberately is. Refusing to give them back is. Sharing them with others is. Hillary, Biden and Pence did none of that. Trump did.
