He never said Mexico would build the wall or that Mexico would write a check.

A few years back, Pelosi, Schumer and a number of other democrats declared the southern border a crisis and voted to pass a bill providing $25 billion for a border wall. The bill didn't make it through. Now- because Trump is for the wall, Pelosi says there is no border crisis and no border wall is needed.

That is clearly a matter of political warfare- conducted while they ignore the needs of the nation's business, because they are mad- just like spoiled brats having a tantrum.
Trump is not doing it, the dems and the shift of the dems to radical liberal ideology is doing it. These are mental children doing the thinking for adult bodies- throwing tantrums.

Trump isn't the crybaby as you claim, and you either know better or you know nothing. One click and a Trump tweet sends thousands of left dems into conniption fits, wailing and bellowing like stuck hogs, while he brushes the BS aside and stays on target. Because he does that, Trumps leadership has brought the nation the strongest and most rapidly growing economy is decades- and done it in the worst barrage of BS that ever came out of a congress. Trump IS doing his job. He's working for the nation- not seeking to get even for being made to look like fools. Part of what they fear is that Trump style leadership demands results, and that is a risk to the entrenched system that has paralyzed politics but benefited politicians for decades. That risk is perhaps the most frightening of all to them- Trump is changing the game, telling us we are entitled to results and action, instead of arguments and windbags that talk issues to death and get nothing done.

IF you expected a puppy dog that would wag his tail to get the approval of everybody instead of staying on target, that's tough. Time to grow up.

In all fairness to Trump I did see him say he did not think the shutdown would last years.. He just said to act immature and stupid like the geriatric he is .. (Sorry no offense to old or young folks)

    whose fault is that?

Trump could have had 25 Bil had he succumbed to the DACA demands.. He was ready to and evidently John Kelly advised him not to take the deal..

There is no compromise spiritgide.. the 1% will have to contend with yellow vests

If you watched any MSM you would know blue women are invading our leadership.. of all races.. I am for the invasion over the dumb domes there now

Invasion of the Dumb Domers.. LOL Snatch that

I say jail the reckless fecal droppers. Seriously.

"Pack it in, pack it out!" It's an outback ethos that demands personal responsibility. Contrast that with "Who's going to wipe my ass if the Park Ranger isn't on duty?" mantra from the lazy constitutionally incapable masses wedded to dependence on government for their daily happiness.

Even with mitigating factors most families do still live paycheck to paycheck. Yes.

no, as we would be wasting tens of billions of dollars a year after the initial $50 billion, for maintenance. And it would not stop or halt illegal immigration at all.

I'm afraid I can't agree with that. Sacrifices are fine things - if you choose to make them. But when they are foisted upon you, it's a different thing. And I would think that the majority of these folks are not 'well to do' with stockpiles of cash in the bank. They are only 2 or 3 missing paychecks away from disaster. It's an incredibly disingenuous statement for Trump to make.

How is it that, with Republicans controlling 3 branches for the past two years, this 'fight' was left to the very last minute? Why didn't they get the funding passed before now?

And why has a gov't shutdown become the card that Trump plays over his wall? How is it okay for him to play with the lives of 800,000 people to get a wall that was never supposed to be paid for by tax payers in the first place?

I am ALL for border security. They need to be secure. NO illegals should be permitted to enter the country. But we have seen study after study suggesting that the solution is NOT the wall. What is Trump's back up plan? No successful businessman goes into a negotiation without one...

I could turn that argument around on you. I don't choose to sacrifice border security so the Democrats can #resist. I didn't choose to make sacrifices to get where I am, only to turn around and pay taxes to pay welfare to support welfare and a bunch of SJW stuff I don't approve of or care about. I didn't choose Obama in 2012, yet he was "foisted upon" the entire country.

But at least you had your vote in 2012 - what vote do the 800,000 employees have on their potential financial ruin?

And why, I ask again, didn't the Republican congress and senate get the funding required for the wall when they could?

Your country chose Obama, to a lesser extent they also chose trump.
They did not chose this. @Pants has a valid point, with control of all three branches of government for the last two years why has this been put off till now? Or did the Democrats do that also?

    *yawn*

Yall exist in this fantasy world where nothing he says is a lie and everything has a caveat that he hasn’t technically lied. It’s quite pathetic. So can I pay my taxes by going and patching some potholes? Or do I need to write a check?

How else will they “pay for it”? If it’s in trade deals them they aren’t paying as that’s money that would have been made regardless, he would still be taking money from the US government. Taxing remittances to Mexico and Mexico alone would likely be illegal and isn’t making Mexico pay for it as it instead taxes mostly legal residents (ie US citizens). There is no way they “pay for it” without direct funding, which they will never do.

The cognitive dissonance y’all are undertaking is a dangerous precedent.
I hope y’all are ready for the eventual outcome. It terrifies me what y’all are creating.

You know I hate to give him any credit for forethought or planning, but Trump's insistence that this shutdown belongs to the democrats may well have been the idea. Shame he blew it when he said - without thinking - that he was happy to own the shutdown and that he wouldn't blame the dems...

Oh I am certain this was all a political game to pander to the base, which makes republicans 100% the cause of the shutdown.

It’s like an abusive spouse holding the kids lunch money in ransom for drinking money.
And then saying they will be fine without food for a while.

Someone else mentioned it - wish I could remember who - but I think his best shot at getting out of this is to tweet that he is re-opening the government because he has just spoken to one of his (imaginary friends) from Mexico and they are going to pay for the wall. It will begin construction immediately. His base, of course, will soak it right up - the government will be back open - and he'll think he's gotten away with it. Fake pictures of construction will be posted from time to time and anyone saying it isn't so will be called out for being fake news. We'll also likely get statistics posted here about how much lower the illegal immigration rate is, now that the wall is in effect.

Trump can simply declare a national emergency to allow him to build the wall. They Congress can pass a CR to reopen the government. The fact that that does not happen only proves that Trump is a f- bastard!

The only appropriate compromise is one that involves the size of the spending bill. For Trump to hold us hostage is wrong, and it will cost Trump's government billions of dollars as a result of lawsuits. What a dope.
