Sorry I think I misunderstood your original "with what" question. What were you asking "with what" in regards to? I posted 4 subjects.

The destroyer doesn't have to do anything. With two Air Force AAs 30 miles away, they would intercept. Also, C130 100 miles out spotting makes life a LOT easier when hunting down enemy chirpers. :)

How did that help that destroyer in that situation?

Are you new to the conversation? We're speaking of how, not what we failed to do.

Long range interdiction is usually preferable; but that plane was in close proximity. What else could have been done to protect that ship in that situation?

It's clear you're responding to the wrong person. Please go back to the posts of origin and find the person you meant to chat with.

    http://www.msnbc.com/msnbc/hillary-clinton-calls-no-fly-zones-syria

In an apparent break with the Obama White House, Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton called for the creation of a no-fly zone inside Syria Thursday, the day after Russian warplanes started bombing rebels fighting the regime of President Bashar al-Assad.

“I personally would be advocating now for a no-fly zone and humanitarian corridors to try to stop the carnage on the ground and from the air, to try to provide some way to take stock of what’s happening, to try to stem the flow of refugees,” Clinton said in an interview with NBC affiliate WHDH in Boston after a campaign event nearby.

U.S. officials confirmed Wednesday that Russian planes had started bombing anti-Assad forces in Syria, but that they did not appear to be targeting Islamic State forces as promised. “I think Putin is playing a very dangerous and cynical game. He’s clearly doing everything he can to prop up Assad and to establish sort of a Russian presence in Syria and the broader Middle East,” Clinton added.

Syria has been in the Russian sphere for half a century and by Syria's permission. Russia has a major naval base there and now and army and air base. Russia has its most advanced anti-aircraft missiles there. Russia is flying over Syria.

A "no fly zone" means shooting down other aircraft. That means' shooting down Russian aircraft. Shooting down other country's aircraft unless over your territorial airspace is an act of war, ie war directly with Russia rather than the usual proxy wars.

It could also mean getting Russia to agree on the no fly zone and assist in enforcement.
