Congress has executive oversight responsibilities, not the other way around.

That oversight responsibility does not extend to investigating anybody for potential tax fraud prior to being elected into office....and they certainly do not have the authority to conduct a "fishing exhibition". That would not be "oversight", that would be a criminal investigation....something that Congress IS NOT authorized for. Any investigative authority that Congress has is confined to Legislative Purposes per the Constitution and past rulings by SCOTUS.

Any investigation will bring charges of tax evasion, obstruction, and/or lying to a federal agent. That applies to Trump as well as all politicians. Using the IRS and our justice system as a political weapon is an abuse of power that will eventually be used on you.

How so? What law are they providing oversight over? What law is being proposed?

I can understand the partisan desire to see Trump's taxes. However, I can not see how any true American could see how a politician requesting the tax returns of a political rival....when there is no evidence of any wrong-doing, just a belief that there MIGHT be wrong-doing.....is a good thing for our political system.

Sorry, but your word is not good enough. Your tax returns should be made public and a fine tooth comb should be ran through them by 1000 media outlets and every member of Congress just to see if you are being truthful. :nana:

If congress gets some evidence I’m not, I’d expect them to do exactly that.

And with all of this witch hunting the Dems are assuring themselves a major loss coming 2020, outside of their base, people are getting tired of the same old crap from them while much more important problems are being ignored and going unresolved.

These people are clearly exposing themselves for what they truly are, that being vindictive out of control sociopaths.

There are already thousands of lawsuits against Trump open. His sleazy cheating business dealings are going to be opened up for all to see before the next election. People are getting sick of this dirtbag and his deceitful evasive tactics.

That's a matter for the IRS to look into not Congress.

What the Dems are doing is the same as the FBI did, that being illegally trying to obtain personal information on a U.S. citizen in direct violation of the Constitution.

But that's ok because it will come back and bite the Dems right on the arse come 2020 when the independents hold their nose's and vote Republican.

Combine that with Trumps base and the blue collars and Trump gets 4 more years and more Dems lose their offices.

So what "evidence" is Congress using to justify their demand for Trump's taxes?

Doesn't matter, they if prodded enough can still find enough to send you to prison.

You not only evade taxes, you commit federal crimes every day, just like every other American. There are more laws on the books that you can read if you live to be 1000 years old. We imprison more of our population than any other country. I know you may not like Trump and may agree with this abuse of power, but the power will be there long after Trump.

Let em dig deep enough and maybe they will find some, if not they can use what they do find to go after companies and people who have done business with Trump and destroy them.

And if this Congressional abuse of power is not quickly tamped down it will expand beyond Trump to the point anyone in office can be destroyed by the opposing party or as in the case of the Dems, they also eat their own and may use this Congressional abuse of power to take out less progressive / socialist Dems as the party radicalizes itself even more..

They knew the man before they elected him the first time. The left and the Democrats are only going to push more people to vote him him this time like me.

The committee’s subpoena sought eight years of documents from Mazars USA, an accounting firm long used by Trump to prepare financial statements, related to its investigation of allegations Trump inflated or deflated financial statements for potentially improper purposes.

    Such as:
One curious example is a mansion and surrounding 200-acre property that Trump bought in the mid-1990s in Westchester, New York. Back then, he paid $7.5 million. In 2012, according to the records Cohen submitted to Congress, Trump valued the property at $291 million. It’s unclear what supported the valuation, though the summary referred to integral “accompanying notes” that weren’t present in what Cohen filed.

The property’s declared value had settled considerably by last year, according the federal financial disclosure that Trump makes annually as president. Trump valued the property between $25 million and $50 million, a drop that wouldn’t be explained by local price swings.

My only question is what took him so long? Trump is well known for his lawsuits - it was only a matter of time before he did it as POTUS. Sigh...

Why are his taxes a private area of his life? Don't you want to know that POTUS followed laws with respect to financial disclosures? Don't you think the people of this country have a right to know that?
