The main recent reason was they did not want communism in the ME.
That was why they occupied and set up bases and selected corrupt 'Kings' to rule who could be bought easily by chests full of gold sovereigns.

If Egypt has not been tyrannically ruled by the British supported Farouk and the Wafd and the select Pasha class the picture would be very different.

Because of that the Egyptians rejected everything Western and went ultra nationalist so that when the USA asked the Egyptians to support and be the leader and biggest ME base for them to combat communism they rejected them. They were sick of being occupied, dictated to and the corrupt stealing all the wealth.

That led them to have to support the zionists who had the same mind set. Domination and invasion, who were not the first choice because they were so radical and fanatical zionists.

    But

With the help of the corrupt Gulf kings and their partners the zionists we have what we have today.

A never ending battle to eject the 'foreign body' Israeli from the region which the British and the Americans realised would never work and never be accepted would work but was the only option to keep communism out.

It will continue to be rejected just like a heart in a transplant. You have to keep on till it dies, feeding it anti rejection drugs.

Read Clare Hollingworth 'The Arabs and the West' 1952

It's good to read older books not the ones of today. Go back to the better sources before Hasbara propaganda managed to distort the history so much.
